Why such extensive direct quotations in this article?[edit]

Over half of this article's text is formatted in italics to indicate direct quotation. This is against the basic notion of an encyclopedia article, which paraphrases its sources. I see no justification for directly quoting scientific papers to such an extent in an encyclopedia article. It seems to be violating some basic principle, not to mention being lazy.--Quisqualis (talk) 02:16, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
