2021-22 Sharks

Howdy. Would you please bring your proposal to WP:HOCKEY, concerning the Sharks 2021-22 infobox. GoodDay (talk) 17:11, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

@GoodDay: Is there any consensus that i am missing not to display the standing? Kante4 (talk) 17:22, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
They're not shown across the 2021-22 team season infoboxes. My guess is, because it's during the season. PS - Why make 'one' article out-of-sync. But again, bring this up at WP:HOCKEY. GoodDay (talk) 17:26, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
@GoodDay: It's not a proposal, it was added and only you removed it. Not a big deal of course. But why are the stats updated during the season in the infobox? It's the same. Kante4 (talk) 17:35, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
A good question for WP:HOCKEY. GoodDay (talk) 17:36, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
@GoodDay: Per above. No one else removed it and there were regular hockey editiors editing the Sharks article. It's not such a big deal for me to go to WP:Hockey but it sounds as you would like to do it? Kante4 (talk) 17:43, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
I may bring it up there. But won't bother, if you're not going to 'revert'. GoodDay (talk) 20:54, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi,

in July 2020, you modified the year of the 1987 Asian Men's Handball Championship as of 1986. You probably relied on Todor66, but the website is self-contradictory since it says that it was played along with 1st Asia Championship Women 1987 (also in Amman) but it is supposed to be played in August 1987. This Archive of the AHF also says the 4th Asian Men's Championship held in Jordan in 1986... but in November! Today, I didn't found anything on AHF Website.

I then looked at Archives of the French Federation and I found that (sorry, it's in French, but if you want to google-translate if, you can get the original text in the left section "version texte (OCR)"):

  • in Octobre 1986, Japan (or another asian country) will face France in B World championship (I guess that at that time, Japan was surely a better team that other asian teams except Korea, so Japan seemed to be the most probable opponent)
  • in December 1986, an unknown asian country will face France in B World championship
  • in January 1987, Japan is the opponent (reason for qualification is unknwon)
  • in April and May 1987, it says that the 2 last qualified teams for 1988 OG will be determined at the Asian championship from 20 to 30 August in Amman (Jordan) and at the Panam Games.
  • in November 1987, it says that Algeria and Japan are the 2 last qualified teams for 1988 OG.

For all these reason, my conclusion is that the 1987 Asian Men's Handball Championship really happend in 1987 but not in 1986. The only mystery then is the reason why Japan get the qualification for the 1987 B World championship?

What do you think about all of this? --LeFnake (talk) 14:48, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

@LeFnake: Todor says at the top 1987 aswell but 86 in the matchboxes. If the AHF says 1987 and the other sources you provide come to the same conclusion, you can revert my edit. Maybe Japan was invited? Kante4 (talk) 15:08, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
Hello Kante and @LeFnake:. First LeFnake could you please ask such questions in the future at the handball project page and there you could ping for example Kante. Because other authors might easily see your questions.
The answer for your question is: That the championship was in 1987. At the August 1987 issue of the Magazin of the Japanese handball Federation. There is written at the page 6 at the top athe the box in the top left. "アジア選手権大会日本代表選手団役員" which is translated by google to "Asian Championship Japan National Team Officer".--🤾‍♂️ Malo95 (talk) 07:59, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
Hello Kante and @Malo95:. Thanks for the answer, 1987 is then the right year !
I asked my question here for two reasons: first Kante made the change from 1986 to 1987 so I thought it logic to ask him if he has some source about it. The second reason is that I didn't know how I can find the handball project page :-( I've seen the project in your signature and then (hardly) found the discussion page, but I'm not sure I'll be able to find it easily in the future...--LeFnake (talk) 08:30, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
@LeFnake: All Handball related articles should have the WikiProject Handball banner at their talkpage Example and at this banner there is a link to the project page.--🤾‍♂️ Malo95 (talk) 10:29, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
@LeFnake and Malo95: So it seems like it's figured out. Thanks for the help. Kante4 (talk) 11:29, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

San Jose Sharks decision column

I have been doing some thinking and I have a proposal that I would like to run by you. As you know, there are occasions where the goalie starter doesn't get the decision. My proposal is to add a break (< br >) next to the decision header creating two lines and using that 2nd line as the starter line. I would only have the starter and a dash listed until the game is over. Once the game concludes, I will remove all the extraneous information in that box. I would revert the starter/decision column header back to decision column once the month is over. I just feel like it is a little misleading to have the starter listed under the decision column even though the game hasn't started. If you are confused by all this, I made this change to the Sharks page for this month. Side question...Where do you live? I am just curious because we have worked together quite a bit on the Sharks page and was wondering if you lived near the Shark Tank. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 04:05, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

@GoWarriors151718: Like i said already i watch the games later since i live in Europe and start time is 4:30 am. ;) I don't like the idea, tbh. If the decision changes we change the name afterwards, or we don't add it right away (before the game) and wait for the final result. Kante4 (talk) 12:17, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

Ah. Wow. No wonder you watch them after the fact. ;). That was quite a game yesterday (12/28). Very offense heavy. Thanks for clearing up where you live. As far as the starter thing goes, I think then that we should wait until after the game to add the name then. That’s just my opinion. What do you think? Thanks for your effort in the Sharks season page. I appreciate working with you on it. Hopefully we will get some good luck with the team in the future. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 21:19, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

@GoWarriors151718: Yeah crazy game and very frustrating at the same time. Yeah, let's leave it blank and not enter the goalie ahead of the game. Kante4 (talk) 05:08, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, I think we should just add the goalie after the game is over like we have been doing with all the other NHL teams. Xolkan (talk) 02:35, 31 December 2021 (UTC)

Karim Benzema’s 2019-20 Supercopa de España

Karim Benzema’s 2019-20 Supercopa de España is officially recognized in Real Madrid’s website as well as Transfermarkt website. Hence, I think it is safe to say we can include it in his list of honours. 116.36.131.82 (talk) 22:30, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

@116.36.131.82: There was a long discussion at the football project and it was decided not to include those if players were not in the sqaud. Kante4 (talk) 22:35, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

I see. But can you clarify for me by “discussion at the football project”? Do you mean the discussions at Wikipedia or the actual tournament? 116.36.131.82 (talk) 22:44, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

@116.36.131.82: Here at wiki. Kante4 (talk) 22:51, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

I see. Sorry for being rather bothersome, but what was the rationale behind the decision? Is there a link to the discussion that is still existent? Just curious. Thanks. 116.36.131.82 (talk) 22:59, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

@116.36.131.82:

Here it was discusssed. Kante4 (talk) 23:08, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

@Kante4:

Thanks for the link. I just read through the discussion and understood the reasonings behind. Nonetheless, I found that the 2005 Supercopa title is listed in Messi’s list of honours, which runs counter to the consensus derived from the given discussion. Given the apparent inconsistency, perhaps there is another (more recent) discussion or consensus regarding the issue? Or could it be considered as a precedent case for including Supercopa titles for Benzema (as well as Bale and Mariano as per the 21-22 Supercopa title that their respective Wikipedia pages lack)? Thanks! 116.36.131.82 (talk) 23:57, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

@116.36.131.82: Not that i know of,so it should be removed wirh linking to this discussion. Kante4 (talk) 12:12, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

@Kante4:

Just following up on the matter, Messi’s wikipedia profile does list his 05 Supercopa achievement despite his absence in both legs of the tournament, citing that Barcelona’s official website acknowledges it as his achievement. People have listed the title under his honours section with a footnote citation mentioning that he had little or no involvement in the games. Given this fact shouldn’t we also give an equal treatment to Benzema, Bale, and Mariano on their respective Supercopa titles (that they did not formally participate in the squad but are nonetheless in the team)? Would like to know your thoughts on this. I just think it’s rather unfair for these players. 116.36.131.82 (talk) 07:20, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

@116.36.131.82: There is clear consensus to remove those honours, even with a note. Kante4 (talk) 11:38, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

@Kante4:

I appreciate your thoughts on it. Nonetheless, shouldn’t something be done about Messi’s wikipedia honours profile then? That very discrepancy with the said consensus is where the unfairness for the other players is originally coming from. 116.36.131.82 (talk) 02:32, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

@116.36.131.82: Then remove it as there is consensus behind that. Or raise it at his talk page. Kante4 (talk) 13:46, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

2022 European Men's Handball Championship - Goalkeeper ranking

Hi, do you know what the actual criteria are for ranking the goalkeepers? It can't be only the % of saves, because otherwise Norway Sander Drange Heieren would be ranked first at 100% and Netherlands Gerrie Eijlers second at 75%.

For Sander Drange Heieren:

Match Statistics Report Saves Shots
NOR SVK Rep Did not play
NOR RUS Rep 2 2
LTU NOR Rep Did not play
POL NOR Rep Did not play
GER NOR Rep Did not play

For Gerrie Eijlers: He only played against SWE, 3 out of 4 saves.

So there has to be at least 1 more additional criterea. I would expect it to be related to the minimum number of matches played or the a minimum number of shots. It can't be the absolute number of matches since else there wouldn't be a ranking after the first group match for all. Maybe something like have participted in at least X% of the team matches. But then, they only would have needed to send in Sander Drange Heieren for 2 seconds in the other 4 matches and he would have met any relative number of marches criteria. Looking at the number of shots, Serbia Milan Bomastar is in the list with 39% (9 out of 23), but then Sweden Tobias Thulin is not in the list with 40% (12 out of 30). Milan Bomastar participated on paper in all 3 Serbian matches, but in 2 he got no playtime. Tobias Thulin participated in 2 (1 without playtime) of the 4 Swedish matches. Effectively they both played 1 match, yet Milan Bomastar is listed and Tobias Thulin isn't, even though 12 out of 30 are bigger/better numbers than 9 out of 23.

All in all, what are the criteria cause I don't see the logic yet. --Sb008 (talk) 15:10, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

@Sb008: I would have guessed minimum of matches played or shots faced but somehow it is something different, tbh. Or it's the case because the whole EHF website is a mess. Kante4 (talk) 02:52, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
I think your second option (a mess) is the most likely one. Below an an overview of the differences in the topscorer list when based on the Statistics PDF on the one hand and the internal JSON records on the other hand.
Player According STAT PDF According JSON's
Goals Shots % Goals Shots %
Poland Szymon Sićko 23 41 56.0 23 40 57.5

Russia Pavel Andreev 14 23 60.8 13 23 56.5
Slovenia Jure Dolenec 11 15 73.3 11 14 78.5
North Macedonia Martin Velkovski 11 17 64.7 11 13 84.6
Slovenia Blaž Blagotinšek 10 11 90.9 10 9 111.1

Slovenia Staš Skube 7 9 77.7 7 8 87.5
Slovenia Nejc Cehte 7 12 58.3 7 8 87.5
North Macedonia Filip Taleski 7 19 36.8 7 17 41.1
Norway Alexander Blonz 6 10 60.0 6 9 66.6
Slovenia Domen Makuc 6 11 54.5 6 9 66.6
North Macedonia Marko Mishevski 5 7 71.4 5 6 83.3
Slovenia Blaž Janc 4 6 66.6 4 5 80.0
Btw, correcting a name in a ping doesn't result in the ping actually being send. A ping is only send when accompanied by a signature. If you correct or add a ping, you have to remove the "old" signature and sign again for the ping to be send. --Sb008 (talk) 17:20, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
The above numbers are without the matches of today. --Sb008 (talk) 17:22, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
@Sb008: I did put in a new signature as i know of that. Yeah, the EHF messed up and i do not think of what criteria is used. Maybe contact them? They also never published a squad pdf for each team, afaik. Kante4 (talk) 17:52, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
No new sig, you only corrected the nic diff. I already did send an email to the EHF, however about different issues, no listing of blue cards on the MR, yes/no a yellow card for Oleksandr Kasai in the match FRA v UKR and the missing number of spectators for several matches. But no response (yet). First see if they can answer those easy questions before putting the more complicated ranking issue forward. Besides I rather not mention the JSON output, before you know it, it makes them wrap it in some php script and I've to do without. The JSON output makes it so much easier to generate a Wiki page. --Sb008 (talk) 18:47, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
Ok, my fault then. Really sad what happened with the website and how south it went. Kante4 (talk) 13:08, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

Above you mention "They also never published a squad pdf for each team". There're squad PDF's, however they're not all equally far updated (e.g. NOR after 6 matches, but DEN only after 4 matches) The general URL is "https://livecache.sportresult.com/node/binaryData/HBL_PROD/HBEC22M/PDF_CUM_XXX.PDF" where XXX is the 3 letter country abbreviation, e.g. "https://livecache.sportresult.com/node/binaryData/HBL_PROD/HBEC22M/PDF_CUM_DEN.PDF". --Sb008 (talk) 15:41, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

There's also an overall team statistics PDF: https://livecache.sportresult.com/node/binaryData/HBL_PROD/HBEC22M/PDF_C84B.PDF

And PDF's of individual games without the need to download them:
Start list: https://livecache.sportresult.com/node/binaryData/HBL_PROD/HBEC22M/PDF_STXX.PDF
Match report: https://livecache.sportresult.com/node/binaryData/HBL_PROD/HBEC22M/PDF_PXXTM.PDF Replace XX by the game number in 2 digits, so use e.g. 04 instead of 4. --Sb008 (talk) 15:41, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

@Sb008: Yeah those are the stats but not the squad lists where they list all players who were registred with club/age and so on, or am i missing them. Kante4 (talk) 15:43, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
Nope, none of those. --Sb008 (talk) 16:01, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

The table

Hi, my edit was one hundred percent correct. There was no team that could surpass Dortmund in the standings or even Wolfsburg, so I am surprised by your behavior.--Sakiv (talk) 15:27, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

@Sakiv: I never said something else but there were still games running which all started at the same time. So instead of four edits, one should do it after all games are done. Kante4 (talk) 15:31, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
Fine, I will not edit any more pages you are watching. There is no rule or policy to endorse what you say. What does the Borussia-Wolfsburg match have to do with other matches? Is there an agreement not to modify a match because the other matches have not finished? Please this does not make sense at all.--Sakiv (talk) 15:38, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
@Sakiv: It just makes sense (at least for me) to edit after all matches, who were played at the same time, are over. To avoid edit conflicts or having to check which result is already updated and which is not, makes more work than needed. Kante4 (talk) 15:44, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
Well, that means that you are the one who determines it??--Sakiv (talk) 15:50, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
@Sakiv: Of course not, but that's how it is/was done the last year(s). At least in the German leagues, not sure about the other ones as i don't have those on my list. But that should not be a big deal tbh, maybe i should not have reverted but that was just my opinion, as this was done the same way before. Kante4 (talk) 15:57, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

@Loilisa: All articles? I did not create all or even many. About curling i don't know as i have no interest in that sport. Kante4 (talk) 14:32, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

relegation

For 2022 Division I, I really don't know. There is likely to be some reorganizing during the May congress anyway.18abruce (talk) 13:07, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

However the IIHF has been consistent in saying that the women's top tier and division IA will exchange two teams, not one. Their story today was about scenarios for who can be the two promoted teams.18abruce (talk) 14:09, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
@18abruce: But here it says one team up and one team down. Kante4 (talk) 14:18, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
You are right, I was mistaken.18abruce (talk) 22:52, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Re 82.22.113.135's edits on Rodrygo

Hi, Kante4. 82.22.113.135 made an edit to Rodrygo and then self-reverted. I left a note on the IP's talk page and they were subsequently warned by GiantSnowman and you for the same edit. I'm not sure what is typically done in such cases, but does the IP need three warnings for a self-reverted edit? Perfect4th (talk) 21:09, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

My warning and yours Perfect4th was the same time; Kante was 1 minute later. I have cleaned up. GiantSnowman 21:10, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
Ah, okay! Thanks for taking care of that. Best, Perfect4th (talk) 21:11, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
All good then. Kante4 (talk) 21:29, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

@Ohnoitsjamie: In which way is this a spam site? I saw it used on other articles and decided to use/add it (if it's not ok sorry). Should i raise this at the Hockey project to see what they think about the site? Kante4 (talk) 15:34, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
Discussing it at the Hockey Project is probably the appropriate thing to do since the objections (spam, essentially a blog) do not accurately describe the website. Using a website that has existed as an authority on its subject matter for 15 years should not be a problem, except that it is self published and it is hard prove that they are an authority. I think that if we want to continue using a lot of the information that is in the infoboxes we should get clarity from the project on whether it is okay or not. At least there you have Admins like DJSasso who will encourage a discussion on what is best.18abruce (talk) 19:37, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
It's a Wordpress site, essentially a blog, and does not meet WP:RS guidelines. I'm not going to remove uses of it as a citation for now, but it violates WP:ELNO. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:37, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
@Ohnoitsjamie: Ok, thanks for the heads up. Kante4 (talk) 15:39, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

I'm sorry I wasn't trying to be disruptive just got bored and was only having a bit fun sorry 86.174.248.249 (talk) 13:36, 28 May 2022 (UTC)

@86.174.248.249: Thanks for reaching out, the edit warring looks bad (from both of us, i'm sorry aswell). We should wait until the game is over before adding the score(s), WP is not a news site and it looks like the game is over which is not. Kante4 (talk) 13:39, 28 May 2022 (UTC)

Luka Modric 2014 FIFA Club World Cup

In April 2020 there was a discussion at the football project Here "Should supercups be included in a player's trophy count (e.g. Messi, 2005) if they weren't called up but are still credited with the title by the club?" started by @Messirulez: and it was decided not to include those if players were not in the squad UNLESS official sources or regulations state otherwise, or there is video or photographic evidence which confirms that they were still awarded a medal. That was CONCLUDED based on a poll regarding Messi 2005 Supercopa de España title with 8:3 votes count but it should be emphasized that 3 voters @Crowsus: @Black_Kite @Davefelmer out of 8 people who voted "NO" said that there is no evidence of him (Messi) receiving a medal and if there is a photo / video evidence that a player has received a medal the trophy should be counted in the player's statistics. So it could be said that actual vote was 6:5 in favour if there is a photo / video evidence that a player has received a medal and if it is credited with the title by the club and reliable source.

So, that discussion, in very wrong way is used as an argument that 2014 FIFA Club World Cup should not be added to Luka Modric's trophy list because he was not in Real Madrid squad list. It is important to emphasize, unlike Messi who was subject of that discussion and who was NOT a member of the Barcelona 'A' squad in 2005, Modric was a standard, integral player of the first 11 of Real Madrid in 2014, but he was injured in Croatia match against Italy in November 17, 2014 and that is the only reason why he was not in Real Madrid squad for 2014 FIFA Club World Cup games played in December 2014.

Given all the above facts and that there is a number of IRREFUTABLE evidence that Modric actually RECEIVED A MEDAL at the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup and it is officially confirmed by FIFA (I will list evidence in the following lines), Luka Modrić wikipedia page should be corrected regarding his trophies won at Real Madrid.

IRREFUTABLE evidence that Modric won the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup:

  1. Numerous PHOTOGRAPHIC evidence: Modric with his 2014 FIFA Club World Cup medal around his neck at the podium (high resolution images on gettyimages with date): image 1: https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/real-madrid-celebrate-following-the-fifa-club-world-cup-news-photo/460733968 image 2: https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/real-madrid-celebrate-following-the-fifa-club-world-cup-news-photo/460733952 image 3: https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/real-madrid-celebrate-following-the-fifa-club-world-cup-news-photo/460734506 etc.
  2. VIDEO evidence (720p video) that Modric received a medal and was at the podium at the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup: For a start, Modric received congratulations from Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, UEFA President Michel Platini etc. from 11:13 onwards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFABbVHgwIQ&t=673s ... and a few seconds later at 11:27 you can see Modric walking with his 2014 FIFA Club World Cup medal around his neck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFABbVHgwIQ&t=687 At 12:31 you can see Modric at the podium (last on the right, next to Ronaldo): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFABbVHgwIQ&t=751 and more up close at 12:47 onwards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFABbVHgwIQ&t=768 then from 13:47 onwards again Modric with his 2014 FIFA Club World Cup medal and Carlo Ancelotti above him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFABbVHgwIQ&t=827
  3. More VIDEO evidence (720p video on official Real Madrid C.F. facebook page): Modric at the podium with his 2014 FIFA Club World Cup MEDAL (last on the right, next to Ronaldo) at 14:05 onwards: https://www.facebook.com/RealMadrid/videos/extended-highlights-real-madrid-2-0-san-lorenzo-2014-club-world-cup-final/738635473412357/
  4. On official FIFA website there is an article from 29 March, 2021 about Luka Modric and among others some of his Honours (selected) are listed and that includes: FIFA Club World Cup Winner (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018) Source: https://www.fifa.com/tournaments/mens/worldcup/qatar2022/news/modric-i-want-another-major-success-with-croatia
  5. Luka Modric official Real Madrid profile page: 4 FIFA Club World Cup Source: https://www.realmadrid.com/en/football/squad/luka-modric
  6. Luka Modric transfermarkt profile page: 4X FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP WINNER (2018, 2017, 2016, 2014) Source: https://www.transfermarkt.com/luka-modric/erfolge/spieler/27992
  7. On May 18, 2022, ten deys before 2021/2022 Champions League Final Modric received MARCA Leyenda Award and here is the article from Marca with his Honours, and that includes 4 FIFA Club World Cup (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018) Source: https://www.marca.com/futbol/real-madrid/2022/05/18/6283e426e2704eed618b4572.html
  8. etc.

As far as I know Luka Modric is the only person on wikipedia for whom there is irrefutable evidence that he won a medal, and the same medal is ignored on his wikipedia page based on wikipedia discussion (about Messi) at the football project from 2020 which states in Results and subsequent action part that supercups should not be included in a player's trophy count if they were not called up for the match UNLESS official sources or regulations state otherwise, or there is video or photographic evidence which confirms that they were still awarded a medal. Luka Modric received a medal and was at the podium at the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup and his medal was confirmed by FIFA and Real Madrid and numerous reliable sources like Marca, transfermarkt etc. Given all the above facts, 2014 FIFA Club World Cup should be in Modric's list of honours on Luka Modrić wikipedia page. --Toshiro8 (talk) 20:57, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

@Toshiro8: Wow, this is a lot of text. Just a heads up, his Real Madris site of course lists that, as they always do with players who did not even play and transfermarkt is not a reliable source. For all other things you may want to post that at the footy project so that more people have a look at it. Kante4 (talk) 08:56, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice, I will do that. Best Regards! Toshiro8 (talk) 15:13, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
