I edited the description of the image. The photo is from the back cover of Yuriy Tarnawsky's Like Blood in Water, JEF Books, Copyright 2013 by Yuriy Tarnawsky. - Hi Karina Zalewska firstly the image has been deleted so adding back the filename to the article will not resolve the issue. As the image was copyrighted it would need explicit permission from the copyright holder to be released. Note that it is usually the photographer that hold the copyright, so unless they have transferred the copyright to Dr. Tarnawsky they cannot give permission. If the copyright holder does wish to release the image from 'free' use the easiest way is to use the "Interactive Release Generator" (blue button) on c:Commons:Email templates - see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more details. Thank you for your answer. I don't understand why this is such a problem. Virtually all pubic figures have their pictures taken by photographers and use them without any official copyright transfer. Typically credits are given upon publication. Yuriy Tarnawsky has used Oleh Holovackiy's photos on four of his last books in this fashion. I don't know how one would have OH assign the copyright. Anyway, the images were copyrighted by Dr.Tarnawsky with the publication of his books. Should he release the rights as you indicate above? Woiuld that be enough? - Hi Karina Zalewska Wikipedia, and Wikimedia Commons (the place for most images) are more observant than most on copyright (partly I believe due to high profile legal cases in the past). The idea is all information including images etc on WikiMedia sites are 'free' for all to use as they wish (apart from some images etc are used as Fair Use). As with images on books my guess is they are either done in good faith, or it has implied permission to use due to payments/contracts etc. So although people may have the right to use images they commission or pay for they do not usually have the copyright unless legally transferred. Much as you can pay for use of images from places such as gettyimages, you do not get the write to sell or publish as copyright free. The easiest things is often to just take a new image and upload direct to commons. Note I'm not a copyright expert (as it is a nightmare to understand, considering the international aspect as well). So if you cant just take a new image that you have the copyright for to donate, I suggest asking either Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, or c:Commons:Village pump/Copyright over on commons.
