Adoption?[edit]

Hey there, Katieishme! I noticed you're looking for someone to adopt you, and I wanted to offer my services as an experienced editor. So that you can know a little about me, I've been an editor on Wikipedia for over a year. I mainly specialize in background work for the encyclopedia, such as deletion debates, anti-vandalism patrols, and many other things, including helping out new users such as yourself! Now, that doesn't mean I can't write articles, of course. I have a wide knowledge of policies and am pretty good at putting words together, if I do say so myself. ;-) I hope that you'll be interested in being my adoptee, but if you'd rather have a shot at someone else, you are more than welcome to do so. Just let me know either way, and I hope you have a great time here on Wikipedia! Happy editing! P.S. - I'm also a Comp Sci major! :-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:37, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent! Unfortunately, I was a complete idiot, and forgot that I'll be out for most of next week. Sorry! I will definitely help you get set up here later today or tomorrow, though - I'd rather take a little time reviewing your contributions for a while to see what you're comfortable with already, what you're interested in, and what you need to improve on. I'm really sorry about my lack of common sense there, but I should definitely be able to really start working with you after my short break. I'll let you know as soon as I have things ready! Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:17, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. - Cool! Where are you going to college now? UMBC's a great school, hope to see you there! :-)
Ok, I've got some introductory information for you set up at User:Hersfold/Adopt. It's a list of what this program will involve, how it's going to work, and a few things you can get started with. Again, most everything to do with the program will be posted there so that it's in one place and easy to find. You'll notice I've added a "StatusBot" box under your section - while not the most reliable system, it's the best way we have of knowing when each other are online. It's based upon your contributions, and is run by an automated account, User:Chris G Bot 3. So that it works, I've added your user page to Category:Wikipedians who use StatusBot. If you'd rather not use this system, feel free to remove the category link from your user page.
I'll try to check in later tonight if you have any questions, and might be able to tomorrow morning as well. I hope everything goes well! Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:13, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again! Just so you know, you've got a fellow adoptee now! User:Beruthiel signed on the other day and will be doing the program along with you. So that you can both be at the same point, I'm going to give this editing period another day, after which time we can really get things going! Talk to you then. :-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:08, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to reply[edit]

It can, but I can give you a big head start. Wikipedia:Citation templates has a long, long list of different templates that you can use to generate a standardized citation format. If you include these templates in <ref></ref> tags, it'll make one of those neat footnote things. Just make absolutely sure that you include the </ref> tag, or else the whole rest of the article will vanish! Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:22, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Report card![edit]

Hey, Katie. Just to let you know, I've taken a look at what you've done so far and made a short report on your progress so far - you're doing pretty good, but there are still a lot of things we need to work on. Don't worry, though, that's a good thing, and the reason I had you edit on your own for a while. Unfortunately, I don't have a lesson prepared for what I want to work with you and Beruthiel on first, so I won't have that ready until tomorrow. Sorry for the continuing delays! Anyway, take a look at the adoption center for my notes. Please let me know what your questions are, whatever they are. You can post on my main talk page, on the adoption center's talk page, or below this - I'll check all three. I'll talk to you tomorrow, but until then, happy editing as always! Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:20, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've got the new lesson up as well now. Let me know if anything isn't clear. :-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:27, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And I've answered your questions as well. Sorry I didn't notice those sooner. Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:39, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Checking in[edit]

Hey, Katie. I haven't seen that you've edited anything recently, so just wanted to check in to see how you were doing. Let me know when you get this. :-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:28, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, no big deal, I figured that's what was going on. I'm just starting myself, and actually need to head off to class right now. Let me know when you're ready to get started again. :-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:30, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm not sure where Beruthiel has gotten off to, and since he hasn't confirmed an email address, I can't check up on him that way. If you're ready, I'd like to get started with the next thing - vandal patrols. Should be rather interesting, I'll have you install a tool to help you out with things that does about 90% of the work for you. Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:58, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, great! I'll get things ready to go for you and let you know once they're posted. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:16, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, it's ready for you! Before you read the lesson, however, what internet browser are you using? I need to know, because it makes a difference with what I tell you to do for the second half of this lesson. Thanks. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:57, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: reply[edit]

No problem, I figured it was something school-related. I've actually got an exam tomorrow in my least favorite class, which I really need to be studying for, but I can take a quick break. I'll post a reply to your responses and get the next half up. Hope your exams went well! Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:41, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the16types[edit]

Just wondering, have you been on the16types.info? If not, its forum is a great place to talk about socionics. Thehotelambush (talk) 01:38, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ready to move on?[edit]

Hey, Katie. Have you been able to finish the last lesson yet? Let me know when you're ready to move on. Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:13, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, when you're ready to move on, take a look at the lesson book and let me know what you're interested in doing next. If you'd like to see something I don't have listed there, let me know and I'll try to get a lesson put together. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:25, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit]

Hey, Katie. I haven't seem that you've been around for a while now - according to your contributions page, you haven't made any edits to the project since February 22nd. Since you appear to have left, I've removed the adoption box from your user page and archived your subpage at my adoption center. Should you come back and wish to continue the program, let me know and we can get started again. Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:43, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Hi Katie!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you!
