Chris Quigley

The article I deleted as a hoax, back in February, was about a US baseball player, not a Canadian comedian. I can't find that you have ever input an article, only an entry in a list - which I have removed, along with several others, because these lists are normally only of people notable enough to have their own articles.

Notability is the criterion for having a Wikipedia article, and is not a matter of opinion but needs to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and press releases. More detail at WP:Notability (people) and, for a comedian, WP:ENTERTAINER.

Also, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a site where people list themselves, or their managers do it for them. An anyone-can-edit encyclopedia is very vulnerable to being used a a free promotion notice-board, and Wikipedia is extremely sensitive to the danger of degenerating into a sort of super-Myspace. To avoid that, we strongly discourage people from writing about themselves, or having their girlfriend and entertainment manager do it for them. Please read our guidelines on:

I'm sorry to be discouraging, but better now than later. If having read those, you want to carry on, what you should do is, first, consider seriously whether Chris meets the notability guidelines. If not, don't waste any more time here - use Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn... If you think he does, then:

• Read Wikipedia:Your first article carefully,
• Make a draft article at User:Keeping Beezy/Chris Quigley, making sure you cite reliable independent sources to establish notability,
• Post a request at WP:Requests for feedback to get comments, explaining your conection with the subject,
• Make a request at WP:Articles for creation, again explaining your interest, to see if someone is willing to move the article into the main encyclopedia.
