Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Kentsteffes. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Kent Steffes, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 11:58, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome![edit]

Hello, Kentsteffes, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Kent Steffes, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Hello, I am unfamiliar with you. I have been editing this page for decades because it is about me so not sure why you would be interested in this Wikipedia page. As a matter of fact I was the person who originally put it up. If you do not know me i was a professional athlete back in the 1990's in Beach Volleyball. It is a very small sport with a very small following but there are some people that do keep up. All the changes to this page have been done by me except for some minor edits and I have never had to submit it for approval. Over time certain things about my life have changed such as degrees in school, marriage, children, introductions into various Hall of Fames and now a book that I have authored which was the reason for these updates. If I didn't update this page no one will so I am not sure what your objection is or why you keep undoing my edits. I have read the rule on conflicts of interest and I do not believe it applies to me. I have included sources for my edits and my user name kentsteffes clearly shows people that it is me who is doing the editing. If you have a problem with any of the edits why don't you say so rather than just removing them all. For example I was recently elected to USA Volleyball Hall of Fame as the All-Time Great Male Beach Player Award also I have written a book both of which are facts that I can write about in a neutral and objective way as well as provided sources. I would recommend that maybe you should add whatever you think is missing or provide anything else you think readers might want to know. As to submitting it you, why? Do you know something about 1990's Beach Volleyball or beach volleyball in particular? If so, make you own additions and if not what would you add? Regards,

Also just to give you more background. I went by another username Elstuf, I have been making edits since at least 2008. Not sure why I stopped using that username, perhaps I forgot or forgot the password. As you can see I have been making various edits over many years. Regards, Kent Kentsteffes (talk) 18:24, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To give you more background on the limited interest in this wiki entry. For example, My friends occasionally make edits as jokes, then let me know, haha right? They usually eventually remove them. Again, I ask why should I submit a change to you? Currently there is an entry on this page that is factually incorrect, one of the "jokes" my friends play on me. You have removed my edits that are factually correct but have not removed the one that is demonstrably false. Interesting. Kentsteffes (talk) 18:43, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident with which you may be involved. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 19:56, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Broken references[edit]

I'm not here to wade into the conflict of interest thing. I just want to point out that the {{cite web}} references that you're adding are broken. If you look at the references at the bottom of the page you'll see all kinds of red. That's bad. Looks like they're mostly missing title attributes. You can check out this page for info on how to use {{cite web}} correctly.

Assuming that you are the real Kent Steffes, and provide the necessary proof of identity, and are unblocked...
You should refrain from directly editing the Kent Steffes article at all, unless it is to revert a clear-cut of vandalism or to remove unambiguously libellous content. In all other cases, you should limit your involvement to using edit requests on the article talk page, which can be reviewed by impartial third-party editors. Please take a moment to review the guidelines concerning autobiographies, in particular the sections "If Wikipedia already has an article about you" and "Problems in an article about you". --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 19:16, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
