Control copyright icon Hello Khalsa Mishima! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Hut 8.5 18:48, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sher Singh Vali moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Sher Singh Vali, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Articles on Wikipedia are named using commonly recognisable names. I noticed you recently moved the article Amritpal Singh Khalsa to Shardul Singh (Waris). I suggest you read this to understand article titles on Wikipedia. You should also read this to understand the core content policies. Sardarmann (talk) 03:11, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That isn't his real name, he told me in Ganganagar his real name is Shardul Singh. Khalsa Mishima (talk) 08:49, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I was unable to verify this myself, and have moved the page back to Amritpal Singh Khalsa. I have raised a concern about your second page move to Shardul Singh Bakalawale at Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2022_November_28#Shardul_Singh_Bakalawale. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 05:28, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves

[edit]

Hi! If you move an article and this gets reverted, then please don't just redo the move again: this can be disruptive. What you can do instead is start a formal Requested move discussion and if your proposal gets consensus, the page will be moved. – Uanfala (talk) 14:43, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I wanted to check in about the article on the Guards of the Red Brigade that you recently created. I've checked through the sources and noticed that most of them don't seem to correspond to what the article is saying. For example, the first source you've used to establish that Arjan Singh Mastana founded the guards never mentions them at all, and the last source in the article about Balwinder Sandhu's assassination never seems to mention an assassination or Balwinder Singh. Most of the other sources have similar problems from my perspective, so I've tagged the article as potentially being factually inaccurate, and I'm inclined to nominate it for deletion or move it to draftspace.

However, as an American I do lack some familiarity with this subject, so I thought it might be prudent to see if you have different sources to justify the claims you've made. Can you provide reliable sources that support the statements made in the article? For more information about what I'm looking for, you could check out our guidelines on reliable sources, verifiability, and original research.

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, and I look forward to possibly seeing improvements to the page! always forever (talk) 07:01, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Always forever: Thanks for tagging the article. It's a blatant hoax, like many other edits of the user. utcursch | talk 08:12, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Utcursch: yeah, that checks out, I almost just G3'd it outright given their history but wasn't quite confident enough. Thanks for taking care of it. always forever (talk) 08:16, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
