Arrondissement pages

Hi, I noticed you were improving those articles and meant to contact you, but just didn't get around to it. If you're doing this work manually, it might be easier to let me know what changes you'd like made and I can probably change my Jave code that generates the articles and then re-run the bot. Hi this is eagle, I was going to try untill I realized that there are not enough categorys. (I think) If you come up with a standard plan, I will be glad to assist. Just let me know and I will run regex using the AutoWikiBrowser for you. If you take the lead on the plan I will be glad to carry it out for you.

Another reason I stopped was that I am not from France, and I don't know anything about france. {Please give me some idea's) I really would like to help. (I wish I knew what to do...some advice please)

P.S. I am running regex right now looking for restruants that were placed in the food stub category, and moving them to the appropriate location.

Page Blanking

On 08-Feb, you blanked Benfeld (canton) and Canton of Benfeld. Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. I've reverted them to the previous versions. If you believe these redirects should be deleted, please follow redirect portion of the deletion procedures. If you believe different content should go there, please create stubs. The problem I was trying to resolve was that both these Benfeld canton pages redirected to the Benfeld commune page, which itself seems to have quite inaccurate information. I'll leave your reverts for the time being, but as part of my broader project to tidy up all canton pages (see my user page for more details), hopefully more meaningful content will be added soon. I'd recommend that you pick one of the canton pages and turn it into a stub. You only need a few sentences and an appropriate stub tag. Then you can redirect the other canton page to that one. Stubs are a great way of handeling cases like this. -- JLaTondre 20:57, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

French region infoboxes

Your links made no sense, they linked to lists of communes, cantons, and arrondissements in départements. For instance the Ile-de-France infobox linked to lists of communes in the Ile-de-France département, which makes no sense, there is no such thing as the "Ile-de-France département". Image copyright problem with Image:Reg25.jpg

I've had a look at the Wikipedia:Image copyright tags page, but am not sure which tag to use. The INSEE license (in English) seems to indicate that it is freely available, but there seem to be a number of different tags that might be appropriate. Can you please give me some help on this? Canton of Benfeld

While it is possible that the page should not be a redirect, this is not solved by removing the data in the page. please address this at Redirects for Deletion. Blanking pages is a bad idea as stipulated by JLaTondre earlier in this discussion page and is considered vandalism by many wikipedia editors. You will find that blanking the page in an attempt to delete it will merely lead to it being repeatedly recreated by other users. I am going to revert your blanking again and implore you to address the deletion in a proper forum (RfD) or replace the redirect pages with meaningful content. I would do so myself except I have neither the expertise nor the time to aquire said expertise. Usrnme h8er 03:08, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Martinique

Hi, I finally got round to looking at the differences in communes between the version I originally posted and yours. Some of these are obvious - for the CAFs I've numbered the communes, whereas you've aggregated them (which is probably better). The communes of Le Morne-Vert and Bellefontaine seem no longer to exist - as far as I can see, the latter has merged with Case-Pilote into Case-Pilote-Bellefontaine and I don't know what happened Le Morne-Vert.

But Fonds-Saint-Denis still exists as far as I know.

Do you have any more information - e.g. a link to the relevant INSEE page? Dlyons493 Talk 16:59, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Um, possibly you were intending to reply to someone else, but I've had a look at Communes of the Martinique département and also Cantons of the Martinique département and they seem to agree with the INSEE page you have quoted above. In particular, the communes of Le Morne-Vert and Bellefontaine are both listed. Case-Pilote-Bellefontaine is a canton, not a commune. It comprises the communes of Case-Pilote and Bellefontaine. I agree with you that the commune of Fonds-Saint-Denis still exists. Let me know if I can be of any further help. Kiwipete 08:41, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Belfast Pogrom

This period of communal violence began on 21 July 1920 with the shipyard clearances or expulsions. This one day event (shipyard clearances) is well documented and referenced in the linked article. On 21 July 1920 thousands of Belfast shipyard workers were driven from their work with much violence. This one day event deserves to be included on July 21. Here's one reference to a newspaper article that tells of the events of this date and number of workers forced from their jobs and the ensuing violence etc: . January 15 and December 24 ‎

I see that you reverted my edits regarding January 15 and December 24. May I kindly ask you to reconsider those reverts, as I have not referenced my addition by a wiki, as you claimed, but with the ADB, a major German biographical reference work. When one uses Template ADB, a link to the German wikisource is produced. This, however, does not mean that the content was created in this wiki, the content is conversely contained in the written version of the ADB. 21 July

Ok on July 21, 1920 there really were major sectarian motivated violence at the shipyards in Belfast. That day set off communal violence that lasted several years. I will enter a third reference which will hopefully satisfy you.Palisades1 (talk) 23:35, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

It's not a question about providing more references. The requirement is that each entry in a DOY article has a wiki link to an existing article. In the case of events, that needs to be an event that took place on a specific, individual day - this is the policy spelt out at WP:DOYSTYLE. Please have a look at how other entries do this. If you wish to ask general questions, please do so at the project talk page. If you want to make another edit on July 21 or any other DOY page, please discuss it first on its talk page. This event listed was linked to Belfast Pogrom which has a section on Shipyard clearnces and a reference to a direct and reliable source: Glennon, Kieran (27 October 2020). "The Dead of the Belfast Pogrom". The Irish Story. Retrieved 21 March 2022. If newspaper articles from that time be better Im happy to replace the above reference with one of them.

Cantons of France

Kiwipete - It's funny you mention INSEE - because that is the source I am using for verification. Check this area on INSEE ([2]) - it shows the map of the cantons, with Grenoble (canton non precise), and then this one ([3]) shows the commune of Grenoble. Unless I am missing something on the map that you can help me with - or unless the maps are not correctly showing the cantons (as they do not match the list that you pointed out to me). Can you help? Sorry, I have been preoccupied with other matters. I've looked at the INSEE pages you mention, but I'm not sure what the term "canton non précisé" actually means. Do you know? I have also checked the canton list from the Conseil General website for Isere ([4]) and it does not include a canton of Grenoble. I think the confusion arises where a single commune (e.g. Grenoble) is split across multiple cantons (e.g. Grenoble 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc). Normally, a single canton comprises multiple communes. From what I can tell, the INSEE site says

"Dans le cas des communes découpées en cantons, les différentes fractions cantonales de la commune figurent avec leur numéro de code dans la liste de la commune. Il est également renseigné pour ces communes un numéro de code pour les "cantons non précisés ". Il est généralement utilisé lorsque l'on ne veut pas ou que l'on ne peut pas caractériser une fraction cantonale pour la commune. Le code de canton non précisé ne s'adresse donc qu'à des communes entières. A l'heure actuelle les valeurs des cantons non précisés sont comprises entre 84 et 99."
I don't speak French, but it roughly translates to:
"In the case of the communes cut out in cantons, the various cantonal fractions of the commune appear with their number of code in the list of the commune. It is also indicated for these communes a number of code for the "not specified cantons". It is generally used when it is not wanted or that one cannot characterize a cantonal fraction for the commune. The code of canton not specified is thus addressed only to whole communes. At present the values of the cantons not specified are included/understood between 84 and 99."
So I'm not sure, but in mapping there is no easy way, it seems, to break down the cantons if they are cross-commune? Rarelibra 18:01, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure what "reasonable" applies to - your original edit, my reversion, or this comment? A few people, myself included, have been standardising all arrondissement pages, including the categories that they belong to, and it would be nice to keep them all following the same pattern. Anglicization of French terms

I'm sure you're quite aware that there is an ongoing discussion about your and Gcampbell's unwarrented (and half-baked) "Anglicisation" of thousands of France-related articles at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_France - what's more, there is now a WP:RFC open about it. You would do very well to cease. I'm sure you'll understand my returning the articles you "Anglicised" these last days to their former state until discussion is complete - and until you have a widespread consensus for continuing to transform the long-established contributions of so many in this singular way. Geography stub categories

Hi - it's taken a couple of months, but I've just noticed that you crated several geo-stub categories for New Zealand regions. Those templates had deliberately been left upmerged into the main New Zealand geography stubs category, since they fell below the threshold of 60 stubs necessary for separate categories (too many small, fractionated categories actually makes it harder for editors to find articles to expand). If some of them don't grow soon, they may need to be deleted and re-upmerged. Notice that the categories contained {{WPSS-cat}} at the top, with its message:

This category is maintained by WikiProject Stub sorting.
Please propose new stub templates and categories here before creation.

Cantons changing of arrondissements

You'll find the change on III.VIII, page 148 (140 of the pdf) of this document [5]. A lot of changes are happening now that the changes can be done by the préfet and not by the ministre. Changes have been done in 26, 27, 33, 39, 41, 43 (this one, Saugues), 51, 62, 72, 77 & 974. One arrondissement (Arcachon) has also been created in 33. I've removed the communes from the arrondissement of Le Puy but I still need to put them in the one from Brioude. Lagarde-d'Apt

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Lagarde-d'Apt, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. -- gorgan_almighty 12:53, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

When I do my editing, there is a section of accented characters (as hyperlinks) below the edit box. Just click on one and it will be inserted where your cursor is located. I'll change 'traces' back to 'tracks'. Kiwipete 01:30, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Viviers

Do you agree with the current format? It should be applied to ALL articles. The eccl. (shit) history is to a separate article, and also, hopefully, deprived of all the Catholic POV taken from that horrendous 1910 encyclopedia. Also, if a list has just an entry, what's the reason to keep it? the only mayor listed is present in the infobox too. Let me know and good work. --Attilios 09:16, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Cantons and land area

For land areas, the authority is www.ign.fr. They give the land area of communes, but I don't know if they give the land area of cantons. If not, then you'll have to add up the land area of the communes inside a given canton. Of course that works only for cantons made up of full communes. For cantons who cut across communes, your only chance is to check the websites of the conseils généraux which sometimes list the land areas of their cantons. Godefroy 13:00, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Problems with Virgile1991

Hi again. It seems we're having a problem with User:Virgile1991. This guy has been repeatedly changing the region flags in the French regions articles (check for instance Poitou-Charentes or Picardie), replacing the current region flags with the flags of the old provinces of France. I thought he would stop, but no, I have to check these articles everyday now which is time consuming. Do you know if there's a place where I could report his/her attitude? He/she seems very young and not really interested in discussing things rationally. Godefroy 14:12, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Have a look at Edit wars and Dispute resolutions. This may give you some guidelines that you can follow. As to what the actual flags should be, I'm no expert, but it may be helpful if you can give some external references for both your and Virgile1991's preferences that would support your case. Arrondissements of Eure

Yes, it's at the bottom of the page: Arrondissements of Eure. If a list comprises basically the contents of a category, it had better have something quite interesting about it, but the only thing in this article are the three arondissements. If you say there are over a hudnred articles like, then they should be deleted as well, or at least all merged into a List of arondissements of France. DevAlt 08:22, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

And in fact there is a List of arrondissements of France, so why we need a hundred articles telling us the same information already contained in a list and a category but which carries no extra interest is beyond me. Perhaps you could explain? DevAlt 08:26, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I would suggest that you propose any changes to these articles at WP:FR. I would note that these articles do contain population change information not found elsewhere. France, football, and POV

Hi, I know you're interested in French region articles, so perhaps you'd be willing to help with this. As you may or may not know, Guadeloupe football team is allowed to take part in North American championships (but not in the World Cup where only the French national team is allowed), and this month there's the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup taking place in the US (this is the North American cup, a bit like the Eurocup). Guadeloupe reached the semi-final, media talked about it, and that's how I discovered about the Gold Cup and about Guadeloupe taking part in that cup. I read the relevant articles on Wikipedia to find more information, and that's where all the troubles started.

Basically, to make this short, the people taking part in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Football have decided to name teams from countries and regions alike as "national teams". So we have Guadeloupe national football team, Brittany national football team, Andalucia national football team, Cantabria national football team, and even, believe it or not, Occitania national football team. There's a discussion going on at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#"national" team for subnational entities?. I've tried to explain that these subnational entities are not nations, that calling them nation is POV, but to no avail. Unfortunately the discussion attracts very little attention outside of this circle of people interested in the WikiProject Football. Maybe you could have a look and express an outside view.

The second thing is the 2007 Gold Cup article itself. People there represent the Guadeloupe team with this flag: [6]. As you probably already know, this flag has no official recognition and is not widely used, yet they insist on using it. This despite the fact that the Guadeloupe team uses the French tricolor flag in the Gold Cup and not this fantasy flag that they insist on using here. Yet when I tried to restore the French flag I was immediately reverted. You can see the discussion that I opened here: Talk:2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup#Flag of the Guadeloupe football team. I've provided sources and links there. Again, since you know a bit about French regions and their flags, perhaps you can express an outside view on this. I tried to explain that this flag has no recognition, that this is not like, say, the official flag of a US state, but to no avail.

Arrondissements of France

Thank you for your message. According to my French-English dictionary, arrondissement translates as district. Wikipedia policy is to use English and you are surely aware that arrondissement is not a word in common English usage so I dont think arrondissement really qualifies. Your argument that arrondissement is more specific in an administrative context is rather meaningless: Any word is more specific in an administrative context. In the UK, district is a very specific word in an administrative context.

I am therefore very tempted to return the page to "Districts of France", but I am in no hurry and will do more research over a few days (or maybe longer if i am busy). In the meantime I will make some minor preliminary edits to the intro to similar effect. Please feel free to comment further (although I may not reply fast). Mesoso2 20:46, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

District has a specific meaning in french (a division of the départements between 1789 & 1801 and an old sort of community of communes). Using it instead of arrondissement would be a confusion of senses. Gato76680 12:31, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Many countries have their own nmaing systems for administrative divisions that ar euique to that country. IN the Ukraine and Russia they are known as Raions. Woaaaah, I dont mean this to be personal. It is le Gers, or the Gers. If you refer to French websites, or the Mairies in the department you will notice it is 'Departemnet du Gers and not simply Department de Gers. While simply stating its name, such as the title of the wikipedia article it may be acceptable to refer to it simply as 'Gers' you will find that it is usually referred to with le (en Francais ou 'The' en Anglais). Aix-en-Provence

Hello. Please do not insert trivia into the introductory paragraph of the article on Aix-en-Provence. You included a mistranslation of an autoroute sign « Aix - ville d'eau, ville d'art » with the description "marketing tagline". This is inaccurate, unsourced and WP:POV. You might also like to know that Aix is a "ville fleurie" (official source: municipal plaque installed in September 2007 on roundabout near autoroute entrance at Pont de l'Arc). Would you translate this as "flowery town"? I'd say "city in bloom". BTW there was a huge welcome sign for the All Blacks on the tourist office while they were here. You would notice from my change description that I was simply moving text (that someone else had previously added) from the article Arrondissement of Aix-en-Provence to the more appropriate article Aix-en-Provence. The english website of the Aix tourist office is not very good. For example apart from their poor translation of "Ville d'eau, Ville d'art" (which you will note does not appear on the french master site), they write, "News magazine: Our picks, what event is occuring, main interests..." Hopeless. The french version is more up to date and has a clearly visible union jack in the right corner, so I will restore it, leaving your own helpful addition. BTW I mentioned the All Blacks above just as a way of indicating to you that there is a place in the article for miscellaneous facts and because you appear to be from New Zealand. WikiProject Newsletter n°1

Bonjour and welcome to the first WikiProject France newsletter!! It should become a monthly special of our project, but until the next issue, here are some points to consider for the month:

• In an effort to determine the active members from the inactive, all members are asked to simply sign on my special userpage.
• I have slightly rearranged and updated the Project page, putting all the featured lists in collapsible tables. This unclutteres the page and you only have to see them if you want to. Give your feelings at the talk page.
• I have made a Wikipedia advert for our project, Image:Qxz-ad108.gif, what do you think? Personally I feel the words need improving ...
• There are still map problems at Template:French commune - any help at resolving them would be greatly appreciated.
• What about starting a monthly drive? We currently have no Featured Portals (except for the Basque Portal which really isn't French any way), so how about improving Portal:France??? I don't know what's exactly wrong but the criteria can be seen at Wikipedia:Featured portal criteria.

Caro or Çaro

Hi, the sources seem to be contradictory on this point. Having read the French wikipedia article at fr:Çaro (it was moved there from Caro a year ago, see [7]) and the Basque name "Zaro", which implies a "s"-sound and not a "k"-sound, I assumed it was a simple typo or overeager diacritics removal. You're right that INSEE calls it Caro, I'm not sure how reliable quid is. On the 1:25,000 IGN maps (accessible via http://www.geoportail.fr) it's Çaro, on larger scale IGN maps it's Caro. Strange. Seeing the "toponymie" section of the French wikipedia article, I suppose Çaro is correct, because all older forms have a "s"- or "sh"-sound. Markussep ^Talk 10:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Kiwipete. I was thinking of going another mile after figuring out more of wikipedia's syntax. Maybe added group headings of the cantons within the arrondissements, then a list of the communes within the cantons. Sort of like what's at the following link under Navbox, Navbox with columns, and Navbox with collapsible groups together - Former French colonies in Africa and the Indian Ocean Template:Navbox_with_collapsible_groups#Nesting_other_Navbox_forms. That can be something that's done in the future though, with another tool or bot.

Templates for French départements

I've seen some of the templates you made, and they are huge. I think it would be more appropriate to list only arrondissements or cantons in these departmental templates, and list communes in templates made for the cantons. Blanchardb-^{Me•MyEars•MyMouth}-timed 02:16, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Yes, some them are large, but they have a default status of collapsed, so they don't take up a lot of screen real estate unless they are actually opened by the user. See here for more discussions. Kiwipete (talk) 02:25, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for finishing these templates, but please pay attention to the default sort order. Basically, any name that starts with a definite article (la, le, or les) is sorted under the next word, and all letters thereafter are sorted disregarding spaces (hyphens).

Re: French cantons

The only way I can see to find the demographic evolution of a canton is to find the individual commune's demographic evolution, such as at http://www.recensement.insee.fr/chiffresCles.action?zoneSearchField=&codeZone=04230-COM&idTheme=3 . These can be found at the insee link on the french wikipedia (in the commune's references) and then click on the link that says "Evolution demographie" or something like that. You can then add these populations together. French User Badmood (which may or may not be a bot) already did these calculations, and I simply copied it over from there. The horizontal version of Historical populations doesn't work when you have a long list because it doesn't adjust to the infobox on the right side. It always gets pushed down below, leaving a big blank space. Ideally, we need a horizontal template that adjusts to the space available. Hello. I remember being slightly confused about the capes during the writing of the article, but pieced it together across a few different sources. I just replaced ENZB with a reliable secondary source that clarifies the issue. It reads: "The City of Edinburgh left New Zealand in January, 1810, in continuation of her voyage towards the Cape of Good Hope. That's entirely up to you, as long as the citation does verify his date of birth. You have the responsibility when adding an entry to ensure that there is an inline citation. Deletion of contribution query

First of all, thank you for adding your reason for doing so. However, I noticed that, even in tha same article, there are numerous other examples that fail to comply with this "need", for instance:

• Lothair I is crowned King of Italy by Pope Paschal I. (no article on the crowing itself)
• 1614 – In Virginia, Native American Pocahontas marries English colonist John Rolfe. (no article on the wedding itself)
• The Mayflower sets sail from Plymouth, Massachusetts on a return trip to England. (no article on this journey itself)

Could you, please, explain why only my contribution was in this particular "need"?

Yes, that's a new requirement put in place by the DOY project. There are lots of those old entries still in place - hopefully over time, reliable sources will be found. Your reversion restored a ref error msg as can be seen in the current (your) version at reference No. 24. I removed the title from the author parameter. The previous edit to mine (by an IP) added in some links, which produced a 'wikilink conflict' error msg. which I also corrected not really being aware of what the edit was trying to do; (AGF). May 28th 2020

First off, apologies as I am very unfamiliar with wikipedia and have no idea if I'm following sop in anything that I'm doing on here.

Regarding the entry for May 28th and the taking of the 3rd precinct, My understanding is that the edit was reverted with the reason that "There is no link to a wiki article specifically about this event". The event is specifically mentioned within that article which the inline link directs to (the George Floyd protests). The 3rd precinct's burning is explicitly discussed in a subsection of the article. This is structurally similar to the entry on Harambe's death which links to Harambe's page which has a subsection discussing the specific event of Harambe's death. In short, I assert the event is historically significant and warrants inclusion and based on the established content on the page, I don't see a reasonable basis for it specifically being struck from the page because it doesn't have an article solely dedicated to the specific event.

Again, apologies if my wires are crossed and I'm not even talking to the right person about this. Thank you for finally replying here. I read and understood the written requirements of the page. Perhaps you did not notice the details on the page regarding the event in question? I will paste the link below. The date, May 28th, is clearly indicated for the even in question. I am not undersanding on what basis this entry is being undone when other entries such as Harambe's death, which has no specific article stands. A quick glance above that, the entry "2008 – The first meeting of the Constituent Assembly of Nepal formally declares Nepal a republic, ending the 240-year reign of the Shah dynasty." also has no specific article and yet it stands.

Why is this entry being singled out as not fitting the criteria for a valid entry when it meets the same spirit and goes even beyond the standard as set by other established entries?

What "finally"? I just saw this. I did notice the details. Harambe died on 28 May, so of course that's directly relevant. George Floyd did not. That something related to his death happened on May 28 is not the point. Finally someone replied and it happened to be you. That you just saw it doesn't change that I made my OP over a week ago.

The entry I made clearly is not about George Floyd. It is clearly about the taking of the third precinct, which was a historic event nearly unprecedented in US history, which has its very own subsection under the date of May 28th in the broader article about the protests.

This entry is not meaningfully different than the entry about Harambe's death. His death being in a subsection of the broader article about Harambe. The broader article that also has information about his birth and the songs his keeper liked.

It's not meaningfully different from the Nepal entry I mentioned which has the relevant information in a table at the bottom of a giant page about a million other things.

Even the next example above it "2004 – The Iraqi Governing Council chooses Ayad Allawi, a longtime anti-Saddam Hussein exile, as prime minister of Iraq's interim government." only mentions the date May 28th in a subsection of a broader article about Ayad Allawi.

I'm willing to believe there has been confusion about what the original entry was even about -- the taking and burning of an American police precinct by US citizens -- again an apparently unprecedented event in American history since at least the civil war. Page previews and coordinates

So I think I've found the answer. There seems to be a bug in the code for page previews currently. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Module_talk:Coordinates#Protected_edit_request_on_29_May_2023 I think the best course of action would be just to wait it out until they fix it. Hi. I added the sources when you reverted both of my edits. From this diff from October 11 article that use as a source a book written by Jorge Basadre, one of main Peruvian historians of his country and this one from 12 May article which has a journal published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru. So no, your statement that claims that I didn't use reliable sources in those edits is wrong. I updated José de La Mar article by adding those sources as showed here. Disambiguation pages

I am having a hard time understanding the requirements at WP:DAB. Specifically, there is an article Ilowiec which, I assume, is a disambiguation page as it contains links to articles about various towns in Poland. However, each of these articles just contains a "see also" hatnote. I believe they should contain a hatnote for "other places" to a page Iłowiec (disambiguation), which should then redirect to Iłowiec. Am I correct? If so, do I replace the existing contents of Iłowiec with the contents of Ilowiec, make Ilowiec a redirect to Iłowiec? Are there any other changes that I should make? Preview using new Vector skin

I am using the new Vector skin. When I edit an article and then press the "Show preview" button, the Preview is displayed, but (a) all the Language links appear in the left-hand margin, per the old Vector skin, and (b) there is a large blank margin to the left of the Preview section. Editing Polish town/village articles

I am making edits to many Polish town/village articles so that they all have a map with location indicated, for example this edit]. About editing on awarding date of the Nobel prizes 2022

Hi once again, Kiwipete! I recently added the awarding of all six Nobel prizes awarded to the recipients in 2022 on the pages of October 3,4,5,6,7,10. But on the page of oct 5, you removed the awarding and stated "while both the people and prize are notable, the awarding of the prize itself to them is not". Then, should the awarding of other pages be removed as well? (As an amateur contributor, I many a times struggle editing, apologies for any wrong edits). Thank you ❤️

Hi @ERA, I see that there are year-specific articles for Physiology or Medicine, Literature, Peace, and Economic Sciences, but not for Chemistry or Physics. I'm not sure why that is the case. Do you have any involvement in creating/maintaining these articles?

The general guideline for putting entries into the Events section on DOY articles is that there must be a specific article about that event (please see WP:DOYSTYLE - "All events, births, deaths, and holidays should be linked to existing Wikipedia articles and those articles should mention the specific events"). In that regard, the entry on October 4 for the Physics prize should also probably be removed. I'm sorry not to be able to offer much more help here. Days of the Year Additions

Thank you for your feedback regarding several of my Days of the Year additions. As you can guess I am still learning much of Wikipedia as I try to update the Days of the Year entries to include active WTA tennis players with Wikipedia entries. I replied with my intention to fix the en dash problem, but as I'm unsure how talk pages and replies work, I'm posting here as well. It's annoying however because it's much faster to edit these using just the Visual editor, but I cannot seem to see any way to get the desired &nash; to appear there without directly copying an en dash from another entry. Using the insert feature results in the actual '–' and so does alt + 150. Please advise, if you can, on how to best insert &ndash; without using Source editing. Nevertheless, every single entry has been fixed with regards &ndash;.

You also mentioned that capitalisation should be by surname. This I missed because of inconsistent messaging at the bottom of the 'Births' section on each page. Some do not mention alphabetisation at all, and some omit the by last name section. Here I would suggest someone finds a message with all of the information and replaces the message in every entry with that information. In the meantime, I have edited the order of the entries I made where necessary with alphabetisation by surname. I did however think of a few scenarios in which more clarity might be appropriate: in the case of two persons born on the same day with the name surname (here I ordered by first name), or persons with names that don't follow the same order as English e.g., Chinese or Spanish (I went with what they were professional known as and took the surname therein), or finally persons who are known by a mononym (do you still order by their surname or by their mononym whether it's their first name or a pseudonym?).

I noticed you removed the entry for Mirjam Björklund from 29th of July page citing that the reference didn't actually contain her date of birth, though I didn't notice this until I reached that day in my &ndash edits. This is an unfortunate reality as the official WTA website is missing some key biographical information for younger players but will be updated in future. With this in mind, I edited the 29th of July and every other entry where the WTA website lacked their actual date of birth so that every time this happens there is also a citation to another source such as Eurosport, ESPN, Wimbledon, the US Open etc. that does contain their date of birth. The WTA links have been left in place, however, because this is the principal reference for professional tennis players, should be accurate in the near future, and adds to their veracity.

I think that the idea of using &ndash; instead of the html – is foolish and I note that the suggestion is not in MOS guideline.
