Disambiguation link notification for July 26

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Burn the Floor, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages West End and Broadway. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Indeed, the reason I only commented it out was that I figured someone better-versed than I in Peta Murgatroyd would have a ready citation. My compliments to you for fixing it so quickly. With regards, --Tenebrae (talk) 00:41, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi

Hi there I am an American University student in Washington DC. I am doing a research for my Wikipedia class about wikiprojects, and I chose the topic of feminism. I am supposed to contact members who contribute to the projects. SO, I would like to ask you if you can help me just answer a few questions related to your contributions: Why are you interested in Feminism? How often do you make changes, how much do you like contributing.

Thanks a lot, and hope to hear from you soon, Sy1744a (talk) 09:19, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it so much :)

Reference errors on 10 July

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:20, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Amy Poehler

The LA Times was quoting Us Weekly's anonymous sources. Unconfirmed claims by anonymous sources is gossip and rumor. Also, per WP:BRD, after you are reverted, you go to the talk page to try to reach consensus with other editors. Instead you chose to edit-war in order to insert a change that violates WP:BRD. If you continue to edit-war, an admin will intervene and this will go to the WikiProject Biography noticeboard. Edit-warring is bad enough, and violating BRD is very serious. --Tenebrae (talk) 14:52, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Tenebrae, You'll notice I *did* go to the talk page. After similar information was removed, I added it back with different wording (namely, referring to reports of their split) and a different more reliable source (LA Times instead of Daily Mail). In the future, please ask for an explanation before making false accusations. Thank you. Knope7 (talk) 17:52, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Digital Anthropology research

Hello Knope7, My name is Stephanie Barker and I am a student at the University of Colorado Boulder. I am currently enrolled in a Digital Anthropology class, which attempts to answer how the digital world affects culture and how culture affects the digital world. For my final project I am doing an ethnography on women Wikipedia users and as a member of the WikiProject Women page I was hoping I could ask you some questions about your experiences editing Wikipedia pages. 1. Have you ever been locked into an intense editing war? If yes, please explain the situation to me. 2. How did you become interested in editing Wikipedia pages and did you have any initial fears/hesitations when you started editing pages? 3. Have you ever been a victim of a mass deletion or other vandalism on Wikipedia? If yes, please explain the situation to me. 4. How would you describe your gender? 5. Is there anything else you would like to share with me about your experiences as a Wikipedia editor? Thank you for taking the time to read this email. I would like you to know that I am only sharing my research with my professor and the other students in my class. If you would like me to send you a copy of my final project, I would be more than happy to! Sincerely, Stelba90 (talk) 01:04, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

I make changes to address all the concerns that you mentioned. I wait for you to reply for two weeks. I ask you to respond to the changes. Instead of continuing the process, you fail the review. What the hell? Abel (talk) 18:10, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Invitation to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Sally Jewell

Hello, Knope -- You will see that I have completed the copy-edit you requested at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests. It was an interesting article. Since external links are not normally allowed in the main part of an article, I moved the link of the Women in Conservation Rachel Carson Award to the list of external links at the bottom of the article. However, I wasn't exactly sure how it should look, so you may want to work on that. Perhaps add "Women in Conservation" right before the closing square bracket?  – Corinne (talk) 01:14, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

@Corinne:, thank you for taking the time to copy edit Sally Jewell! I appreciate your time and effort. I am so glad the Guild of Copy Editors exists to offer this valuable help. Knope7 (talk) 18:29, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

OK but is it possible to remove the review page you started as, on the list at Wikipedia:Good article nominations#Art and architecture other potential reviewers may think a review is in progress, and therefore not start it. I'm not sure of the best way to do this - would you like me to ask at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations to see if someone can help?— Rod talk 08:52, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
@Rodw:The review page was never listed on the GA Nomination page so no reviewer would have thought the article was claimed. Still, to be cautious I removed any link to Cleveland Pools and added a statement that the review was abandoned. Knope7 (talk) 17:09, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
Because the process was started a bot changes its status at GAN. If you look at Wikipedia:Good article nominations#Art and architecture it says "discuss review" rather than "start review" which indicates it is "in progress". I have seen this problem before when someone has take on a review and then realised, for one reason or another, that they can not complete it. I can't remember how to fix it.— Rod talk 17:23, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
@Rodw: I have tagged the review page for Speedy deletion. I hope that takes care of it. I am sorry for any confusion. Knope7 (talk) 17:46, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
I've put a note at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations#Reviewer has resigned to ask for help.— Rod talk 17:55, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
@Rodw: the page has already been deleted and the entry on the nominations page says "start review" again. Knope7 (talk) 18:19, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks - now resolved. Sorry for the hassles & if you ever need help with British English let me know.— Rod talk 18:23, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

Consistency.

Note that the nominees are shown in the infoboxes of the other current cabinet officers. GoodDay (talk) 01:52, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

@GoodDay: for consistency, I think the argument is stronger that the nominees should not be listed on current cabinet officers articles. There might be a different argument for the office they are being nominated too, such as Secretary of Health and Human Services, but I don't think it's appropriate for the articles on current Secretaries, such as Sylvia Mathews Burwell. First, it is a virtual certainty that Trump will succeed Obama but there has been a decision not to add Trump to Obama's infobox until the transition takes place. Second, with cabinet officials there is also a possibility that even if the nominee is confirmed the timing will give rise to an official assuming the positioning the interim, either because there is a delay in the incoming Secretary assuming the office or even the possibility of the current Secretary resigning. Third, as I said, consistency can cut both ways. We can consistently remove the nominees from all individual cabinet member pages until the replacement actually takes over. Knope7 (talk) 02:21, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Just pointing out, the nominees were added to the others & that's why i added to those two. I won't oppose, if all are hidden. GoodDay (talk) 02:24, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
@GoodDay: I have only hidden or removed nominees on the pages I have actively been editing. Certainly I would not oppose hiding it for all nominees. Knope7 (talk) 02:28, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Another source for Schumer

Alas! there isn't a second source for "Schumer cooking". There sure is, however, a second source for Schumer's "deep love" for meatloaf. Here are the sources:

1. «Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, and Maine Senator Susan Collins all have a deep love for the classic American dish» [meatloaf] Source: Bloomberg. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-06/paul-ryan-s-venison-meatloaf-recipe

2. «Senator Chuck Schumer was equally enthusiastic about his own recipe, a wide-ranging cooking project that centers on a meatloaf of beef, veal and pork surrounded by pieces of barbecued chicken. “It’s so Chuck,”» Source: The NYT. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/06/dining/meatloaf-book-recipes.html?_r=0

Please consider that some may like "agriculture," whereas some may just like tending to their grapevines. Likewise, some may like "cooking", and others may simply enjoy making a mean meatloaf.

Nowadays people's hobbies are often narrower, more specialized than they used to be in the past.

Cheers, XavierItzm (talk) 22:43, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello, @XavierItzm:. Is there a reason for moving this conversation off of Schumer's talk page? I appreciate you finding a second source, but both sources are promotion for a cook book featuring one of Schumer's recipes. It's true Schumer may only cook meatloaf. I'm just wondering if there can be a better reason for including this fact beyond it was published by the New York Times. If we included every fact the Times printed about Schumer, the article would be unbearably long. I'm not opposed to adding really specific facts to articles, but the best facts or anecdotes illuminate something about the person or connects to a larger theme. Knope7 (talk) 23:05, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for your well-considered response. I only followed here because I did not recall the ping command/template you just used (thank you for that, too!). We'll take it back to the TP. Two small points: sure, both sources arise from the same book; nonetheless, on WP, notability is usually achieved by coverage by WP:RS, regardless of how that coverage arose. On the illuminating point, some may observe Mr. Schumer's beloved recipe includes bacon, and this may illuminate his views on his religion's dogma, and perhaps, on all sorts of dogma. Of course, a good biographer does not belabor such points, merely notes the facts. Take, for example, Chelsea Clinton's Wikipedia entry: it notes her wedding was of mixed rite, that she has not converted, but that she sometimes attends the ceremonies of her husband's religion. Nothing earth-shattering, of course, but illuminating about the person whose bio is being covered. Thanks again, and back to the TP, where I'll be noting the Bloomberg source. Notorious date formats

Citation formatting is not a GA criterion, but it won't hurt your nomination to get all of the citation date formats aligned to a single format in Ruth Bader Ginsburg. For example, take a look at the dates in references 131, 132, and 133. All three are in different formats. There is a hidden header at the top of the article asking editors to use "Month Day, Year" dates (e.g. March 5, 2014 instead of 5 March 2014 or 2014-03-05), so choosing that as a consistent format should not be controversial. It's a tedious task, but you should only have to do it once. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:17, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Instant-runoff voting Good Article Nomination

Thanks for your message. How long do you think myself and others have left to edit the article before the article's nomination is discussed? Would it perhaps be worthwile withdrawing the article and re-nominating it at a later date? Thanks! Doonagatha (talk) 01:11, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

@Doonagatha: It's hard to say. It can be months or it could be only days. There's no penalty for having an article failed and you can always renominate, but if you want to avoid a quick fail, then withdrawing and re-nominating later would be the safest way to do that.
