A tag has been placed on File:Firefox 3.5-4.0 logo.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Charles E. License tagging for File:743091.png

Thanks for uploading File:743091.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 19:05, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Windows 98.png

In this file, you used Windows 95 icons. Use 98 icons and colors. 81.190.253.184 (talk) 09:00, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

The icons in Win 98 are identical to that of Win 95 unless you have the Plus! pack installed and you enable high color icons, which most users don't have. All settings are at defaults except for the branded wallpaper, which is bundled in win98 itself. The icons were not re-designed until Win ME / Win 2k. For standardizationm, OS screenshots on Wikipedia should be as vanilla as possible, seeing as tho high color icons is something you have to download and enable i don't find that to meet the citera, especially with the Microsoft screenshot licence which is very strict.--Charles E. Your MfD nominations

Just so you know, images are sent to Wikipedia:Files for deletion, not Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion. Also, when you link an image, instead of using the normal link format, you should write it like this: [[:File:Example.png]]. Otherwise, it shows the image on the page, and that can take up a lot of space. :) I hope this helps! ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 04:01, 5 August 2011 (UTC),

File:WINDOWS 7 PC STICKER.svg

The Windows 7 Sticker svg seems accurate when rendered at 200px, 500px and 1000px but when rendered at 2000px it becomes less accurate. The blue tint in the background should get darker as it goes down but in the 2000px rendering it is just one shade of blue (light blue). Esebi95 (talk) 10:13, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your concern, I mentioned it on the file page. Quick question, why would it need to be rendered that large? I have a few other SVGs that this happens to; SVGs and gradients, form what I have experienced, don't play that well together.--Charles E. Dear Koman90,

I recently looked at your SVG of the Windows classic flag logo, and I mean this in the nicest way...it just doesn't look right :/ If you don't mind, could you make it look closer to this? Since I don't know how to make SVGs, I probably shouldn't be criticizing, but I'm just trying to be constructive :)

Thanks!

Hi, i see your talking about the late 80s early 90s Microsoft windows logo. Microsoft actually had two color sets, the lighter colors you're referring to were for Client OSes e.g, Win 3.x, 9x, ME, while the richer almost fourecent colors were new technology (NT) versions. I'll try to restore the original colors i think i have the older version of this file archived somewhere.

File source problem with File:Blues Clues logo.svg

Thank you for uploading File:Blues Clues logo.svg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Two topics

  • Not sure why transclusion is broken in the first sentence of your User page - I commented it out so that first paragraph would render, after reverting some vandalism: someone replaced your certifications listing.
  • File:Intel_Corei7_2009.svg is of appropriate (native) dimensions as a fair use item, and it's gorgeous, but its file size is huuuge, nearly a megabyte. Is there any way to reduce that? My reading of WP:Non-free content is that fair use items should always be the minimum needed: minimum size, minimum area, minimum resolution, minimum quality, etc. Your SVG could reasonably be scaled up and used to create a full-resolution building-sized advertising banner, and that's not minimum representation at all. Under fair use, the used materials are supposed to not impair the marketability of the original by the copyright owner. There's probably some horrible fractious debate about this somewhere, and I don't want to have it with you, but I just wondered.

--Lexein (talk) 19:41, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

    • Hi Lexein,

thinks for bringing this to my attention. Typically, Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) have several advantages over Raster (PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP) formats. Some of these benefits are Prevention of casual copying, Smaller file size, And the ability to "scale" the image without distorting it, both larger and smaller. It is for these reasons that an SVG is considered superior by most wiki graphic artist, such as myself.

I'll be looking into the issues with the file size issue on the file you mentioned. However the SVGs on Wikipedia is, as you mentioned a heated debate all across the wiki. I honestly see no harm in it as many companies actually ask you in their logo usage manual to use the vector files whenever possible. The only violation of typical branding guidelines is if you manipulate; change the color for example of a logo, Which would take someone who is graphic design savvy, such as myself. :) Charles E. Keisler (talk), MCTS 19:14, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Cool. I imagine that WP use of SVG as a "fair use" format, since it seems to be usable to potentially impair the copyright owner's ability to profit (from, say, republication-for-profit, poster or accessory sales, due to its lack of inferiority, a fair-use notion), will have to await some guidance from courts or Congress, or the Librarian of Congress (who has issued changing rules about DMCA), or, at the very least, WMF. --Lexein (talk) 20:07, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for trying to upload a screenshot of Device Manager under Windows 8. However, I've reverted File:Vista Device Manager.png back to its Windows Vista version, because uploading the Windows 8 version over it made the filename misleading. I've re-uploaded your image at File:Windows 8 Device Manager.png and added it to the Device Manager article. However I don't know if it looks OK; as my user page says, I'm totally blind. Graham87 15:49, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

I notice that you've done this to many other images as well (e.g. File:Windows Vista IExpress.png). It's way past my bedtime already and I don't have time to deal with these myself. Please revert the images, re-upload the files with a unique filename, and copy/paste the licensing information from one image to the other. This is most easily done by using the Special:Upload interface. Graham87 15:54, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Candidate for conversion

File:Justice_Party_Logo.jpg (non free) seems like an excellent candidate for conversion to SVG, which would then be free, if I understand things correctly. So: is this a quick/easy/semi-automated conversion? Since it's non-free, there's some pressure to reduce it to ~100k pixels. As a practical matter, does having the higher res version available make conversion easier? If so, I'll leave it for y'all. Same for File:VenturaSeal.jpg and a bunch of others at WP:Database_reports/Large_non-free_files which you probably already know about. --Lexein (talk) 09:07, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi Charles, I've put back a message that I wrote over a week ago, that was automatically archived. You have not made any edits since my message, so I'm not sure if you've read it or not, and you probably wouldn't read it if it were archived. I've temporarily adjusted the age of messages to be archived to 70 days, so you don't miss any messages while you're away. I trust that everything's OK. Graham87 15:19, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
