Deletion requested for File:Windows_logo_and_watermark_-_1985.svg

I have requested that commons:File:Windows_logo_and_watermark_-_1985.svg be deleted as it just doesn't seem to correspond with any logo that was actually used att the time. Dmcq (talk) 13:14, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Originals for the images from 1985 and 1986 have now been found
http://www.hartbrothers.com/dave/windows1dev.html
http://docs.com/8NAK
So there's no problem now. Cheers. Dmcq (talk) 12:26, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, there as an article on how the Windows 8 and Windows 1 logos look alike, don't have time to look for the link right now but a quick Google search might find it.

There was also an article on how the window 7 task-bar looked like the line off application icons near the bottom of the screen on windows 3.x and older.

File:Splenda_Logo.svg

I am writing to inform you that the file you uploaded, File:Splenda_Logo.svg is inaccurate in that the "R" in "Sweetener" has been misplaced in the logo and needs to be fixed. I am unable to do this myself, though I have been able to create and edit a PNG of the file.Hg3300 (talk) 06:21, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

woah! how did that happen, thanks for pointing that out. SVGs take a bit of work to make, instead of pixels they use shapes and text, apparently on this one the correct font isn't Available on everyone's computers including the wiki servers. I'll have a new copy up shortly.--Charles E. Keisler (talk), MCTS 06:26, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Ok new copy is up, that particular text box was "squished" so i just expanded it. --Charles E. Keisler (talk), MCTS 06:49, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Candidate for conversion

File:Justice_Party_Logo.jpg (non free) seems like an excellent candidate for conversion to SVG, which would then be free, if I understand things correctly. So: is this a quick/easy/semi-automated conversion? Since it's non-free, there's some pressure to reduce it to ~100k pixels. As a practical matter, does having the higher res version available make conversion easier? If so, I'll leave it for y'all. Same for File:VenturaSeal.jpg and a bunch of others at WP:Database_reports/Large_non-free_files which you probably already know about. --Lexein (talk) 09:07, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi Lexein,
Unforgettably SVGs must come from another Vector Format for "quick" or "easy" conversion PDF, EPS, AI, PS, DWG, WMF are all exaples of Vector formats that use shapes and/or text rather than pixels. I can run Raster (BITMAP) as it's sometime called but more commonly know as formats BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG through a "tracing" process, but this often creates jagged edges and other problems with the logo, that would cause the company's brad to be improperly represented, a good example of a trace i spent less than an hour on is File:CocaColaField.svg and about a 1/2 hour is my all time record for this process. So unless I can find a vector source the's not much hope. --Charles E. Keisler (talk), MCTS 07:21, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Well this is odd. Vector Magic, the program I use to "trace" images got it almost perfect! Take a look at this file that's it after converting to vector and back to raster. --Charles E. Keisler (talk), MCTS 07:42, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Nice! I'd say that's a winner. Now, to resolve the question of if a conversion from raster to vector is a Foundation- and community-approved way to reclassify non-free to free, for logos and seals. --Lexein (talk) 22:13, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Well, It appears to be a hot topic across Wikipedia right now. I just work on graphics tickets. If there were no requests for vector convection there would sill be other similar work to do. Ensuring images are using lossless and not lossly compression, for example. The Lossly compression Use in GIF in particular cause many "artifacts" or spots on the image. My intent Is not to violate copyright or branding laws but quit the contrary; To Represent the entity as accurately as possible. However the pre-rendered thumbnails of up to 2000px generated by the media wiki servers allow these images to be used in such a manner in the wrong hands. I do agree that there should be a rule/regulation of some kind but i haven't seen any; in fact i've seen Wikipedia policies encouraging the Use Of SVG. Anyway still working on the logos you requested, The "justice party" logo converted just fine exec pt for the fine print text at the bottom, which is typical of most logos when I trace them. I'll have to re-create the text. I'll have an SVG online in the next few days. --Charles E. Keisler (talk), MCTS 02:19, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Archiving

Hi Charles, I've put back a message that I wrote over a week ago, that was automatically archived. You have not made any edits since my message, so I'm not sure if you've read it or not, and you probably wouldn't read it if it were archived. I've temporarily adjusted the age of messages to be archived to 70 days, so you don't miss any messages while you're away. I trust that everything's OK. Graham87 15:19, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi Graham87,
I missed you message? I still don't see it. Thanks for adjusting my auto archive settings though. As you can see above I was away for quite an extended time, one year with mabie a few peeks at my user-page. I'm back though and will be checking my page monthly. I'm also setting up wikipedia to send the notifications when i get messages here to my freelance business presence email.
My message can now be found here. Perhaps 70 days wasn't enough. Graham87 08:12, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi Graham87,
You input regarding the naming of images, in particular Operating system screenshots. I agree with you regrading this matter to a certain extent. However i think there sould be at least one version of each image that is for the current version of the operating system or software. For example the current version of windows Would be represented in a file named simply File:Windws Device Manager.png, then if needed for historical reference older venison would be archive under their OS version. I'll definitely take this into consideration in the future. Thanks --Charles E. Keisler (talk), MCTS 00:27, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Better source request for File:Azteca Trece 2011 logo.svg

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 21:16, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:Taco Bell logo.svg

Thank you for uploading File:Taco Bell logo.svg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Rubin16 (talk) 12:07, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

You may conclude the investigation, the information was duplicated. I placed a link to the official timeline, Under a new heading "Pre-2007". The intent was not to deliberately copy, but to have a complete timeline form beginning to presents MTS appears not to be maintaining their timeline. --Charles E. MTS Original South Line.svg

Koman90, is there anyway you could work up another (newer) larger (or scalable) version of this image?

I like it, and would like to use it elsewhere (e.g. on the Blue Line (San Diego Trolley) page), but right now it's too small to read the station names (and I think one or two of them may be in error - for example, I think your image includes the Bayfront station, but that was an 'infill' station that wasn't added until 1986, and I don't think it includes the San Diego Square station at 7th Ave (opened in 1981, closed in 1986)...).

Anyway, I'd love a bigger version of this image, if you feel up to it - maybe you can even recolor the line Blue!... ;) Thanks! --IJBall (talk) 06:07, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
