Thank you for your comments. I have implemented two-thirds of your comments, but would appreciate some clarification on the second. Savidan 01:26, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
The M[ass] of S[tupidity] compiles the opinions of a handful of half-educated and provincial would-be language-reformers. It is neither consensus nor English; "January of 1921" is perfectly idiomatic English, no matter what those incompetents think. I did not write it, but I will revert any meddling based solely upon the so-called Manual as often as necessary. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 15:19, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Your opinion that MoS's claims here are consensus is unsupported; far more of MOS is the product of a single crank or a revert war by a handful of fools than the product of any genuine consensus. Present the discussion, and if it is more than the usual blowhards, I will consider taking out the ofs myself. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 15:32, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Featured Lists
Yeah, I noticed, I have all three on my watchlist. :D This one may be tricky though... if you thought that the CMC and SMMC had few refs and records, the ACMC is gonna be even more sparse. But it may not be an issue, the FL process seems to be highly dependant upon the whims of those who happen to stop by. Please let me know if any of the lists I offered earlier are in your plans for FL, and I will assist (they are an area I have more practical knowledge in).
Anyway, Keep up the awesome work! Semper Fi. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 14:42, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- I would say to consult User:Looper5920. He basically wrote the article from scratch and got it up to A-class singlehandedly. I also think you should discuss your changes with him not only because he's an expert in Marine aviation, but because he's somewhat protective of that article in particular. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 16:29, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Lists
Hey Kumioko. Sorry for taking a while to get back to you... But to your questions. I believe the Rickenbacker list would fail 3b as an unnecessary fork I'm afraid. As for your next MOH question, your suggestion of how to split them into sections seems fine. It may well be a case of seeing it once its done as you'll need some nice prose to adequately describe how you've made the subdivisions. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:54, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Why were the images removed from the infobox in Michael P. Murphy? Is this part of an MOS or something? -shirulashem(talk) 17:03, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Unrelated question on the same article: ribbon rack building. I'm curious if you built it from scratch, or if you were using my ribbon workshop. If the former, take a look, it can be a time-saver to copy and paste less. (yes, I've been wiki-stalking you lately) bahamut0013wordsdeeds 17:25, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- Well, his tours in Djibouti and Qatar sound like they might qualify, but what the durations for them aren't listed, so we don't know if they were long enough to qualify. With SEALs, who knows? He could have deployed for months, or possibly a weekend. However, if none of the refs mention it, I'd like to think to trust that a biography on a MOH recipient would be so incpmplete as to be missing TWO service medals. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 05:11, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Alt text
Hmm... Well, if the intent of having alt text is to facilitate a person using a screen reader, then wouldn't decribing each ribbon be kinda redundant to the text table under each ribbon rack? I mean, the intent of having the display is to identify what awards an individual rates, and a screen reader would certainly read the name of each award. That, and I'm not sure if template:ribbon devices can handle alt text of both the ribbon and the device. That, and one might argue that the images are more decorative, where Wikipedia:Alternative text for images dictates that an alt is not necessary. Though I can certainly imagine that a screen reader would have result in some confusion when reviewing a ribbon rack table. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 05:05, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Louis H. Carpenter GA Status
Hello Kumioko,
When you get a chance, please review or update what else is needed before a peer review on Louis H. Carpenter. I really do appreciate your help on this. The article is looking great because of your guideance and assistance.

- Fixed. It was just a simple math problem :) Dabomb87 (talk) 21:05, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, a row of three when we are using a base of four rows. Pain in the arse, because unlike the other combinations with rows of four, you have to add a colspan to each cell. If you look at my code for a four plus three stack, you'll notice that I have a dunny row of 12. That's because the lowest common denominator of 3 and 4 is 12. You set the row of three as a colspan of 4, and the rows of four as a colspan of three. But if you leave out the empty row, the spacing will be off. All the time I see good faith edits removing these empty rows and not seemingly noticing how they screw up the table. Perhaps I should start adding a hidden note? bahamut0013wordsdeeds 04:58, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Pappy
Actually, just a coincidence. I've been very slowly working through Category:United States Marine Corps officers, adding ribbon racks to anyone who has a reference, I was in the B's today. Do let me know if there ever comes up an issue regarding awards, either in format, precedence, ratings, etc. in an article review. I've accumulated a lot of knowledge about them from editing Wikipedia; so I can help with any awards dispute. Referencing has been, unfortunately, dodgy at best, but I do have some sources. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 16:39, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- How could I have forgotten the wings?!
- I normally don't bother with the row numbers unless there are a number of rows; I picked four as a good number. Any less, and the reader probably won't have to count to match the image to the text. Probably not worth doing when there are any less. Also of note, because it may come up later, I generally try to use rows of four only when there are eight or more ribbons; any less, I use three. It just looks neater that way. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 16:51, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- You're right, the line between OR and common sense is blurred (I wrote an essay on the topic a while back). I find that some measure of educated supposition is merited, such as basing good conduct medals based on years of service, and such; but photographs are invaluable and I reference them as much as possible. In this case, the article notes that Pappy's POW status is disputed because he was never declared a prisoner. To err on the side of caution, I chose not to include it because he probably never wore it. I'm sure there were some unit awards given to VMF-214, but I can't find any date records for that unit (nor do I know exactly when he was declared missing--at that point, he would be off the unit's rolls and not longer elligible to rate a unit award). If you come up with some specific findings, I would recommend we take up the discussion on the article's talk page to keep a better record. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 17:04, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Portal
Certainly a fresh idea... while there are plenty of biographies to feature (some in good shape, some in abysmal shape), I doubt that there is enough supporting material aside from the various lists. A portal needs to be able to feature a great deal of cntent, and I'm not sure you have much to work with besides biographies. There are only so many pictures that you can feature before it gets repetitive.
For example, look at the USMC portal: we have 4 features that automatically rotate monthly (article, image, bio, and quote), a monthly history rotation, and two sections that we update as needed (in the news and "did you know?"). Looking at the United States Military portal, each of thier sic features rotates every time you refresh the page, and they have between 78 and 27 available for each, the vast majority of which are Featured contnet, or at least GA. I just don't think there is enough to match that.
You also have to consider that creating a portal is a huge endeavor, and maintaining it as well. That said, if you choose to press on anyway, I will support you as well as I can. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 13:12, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds like a good plan. I'd say that to start a portal, I'd want a flagship of at least a dozen Featured Articles (with a few GAs and A-classes mixed in), and build from there. I'd also say that you want to make sure that Medal of Honor stays FA as well, but I'm sure you'd already fight for that should an FA Review ever crop up.
- Another option that would speed things up by expanding the pool would be to create a joint-MOH/Victoria Cross portal. However, I'm sure many would object to that being an arbitrary matchup (and there would be some merit, though I think that the MOH and the VC are most well-known awards in the English speaking world, and this is the English Wikipedia after all). And, you'd also have to make a lot concessions--I know a few of the editors from Wikiproject Orders, Decorations, and Medals who are nigh impossible to work with (and embody the negative stereotypes of Brits as arrogant and conceited). I must admit, I'm fantasizing about a light blue and dark red color schemes... that's kinda odd, isn't it?
- Let's plan to re-evaluate Between Christmas and New Year's! bahamut0013wordsdeeds 13:42, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi Kumioko, I did revert your original edit of the reference section because the format that is used in the article is a combination of Harvard citations which are linked to the bibliography written in the Modern Language Style Guide format (that cannot be considered "general" references as the majority of the citations are actually linked to the reference sources given in the bibliographical record). As to creating a non-linear or non-chronological biography of an important historical figure, what is the reasoning behind that? All biographical writing in an encyclopedic format follows the "story" of the individual. There are many reasons to develop a prologue (which is the lede or "leading" statements) but moving the narrative into a non-chronological order has inherent problems. As to assigning reference points, Wiki world basically uses a "foot/end note" classification rather than the "specific" references that were proposed. Any further revisions such as those found in the sandbox article that you are setting up that are not coherent will also be a question of contention. Perhaps take up your concerns about the direction of the article on its talk/discussion page. FWiW, I did not note where you have made substantial or consequential edits to the article, as the submissions appear to be of the minor variety, mainly dealing with formatting. Bzuk (talk) 18:16, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Kumioko, thanks for your note. In not reiterating the above comments, there is one way that can be utilized effectively in addressing your concerns over recurring themes such as CAL's environmental preoccupation or continuing debate over his supposed Nazi sympathies, namely creating sub-articles or "daughter" articles such as what has occurred with Abraham Lincoln, although these are generally looked on with disfavor by the stylistic troops that patrol new articles. On another note, although the article has reached 101 kilobytes, it does not look substantially different from other biographical articles, see: Amelia Earhart, 104 kilobytes long. FWiW, forgive the mild chiding in the last statement, but remember that I am not the "gatekeeper" of the CAL article, that honor falls to Bruce who fiercely maintains the integrity of the article. What is the public domain material used in this article from the USAMHI? It's not cited in Notes. Hal Jespersen (talk) 23:56, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- There you go all done. Just for some background, many of the Medal of Honor citations have broken links due to the Marine Corps whos who site or the Medal of Honor site so I am cleaning them up. I have also been having a lot of issues with the Corenbot tagging the MOH articles with copyright vio tags due to the Home of Heroes website. So this will fix that issue as well. You will likely see many more rolling through as well as cleaning up some dates. In this case the source for the citation was the find a grave website and although that site is good for some info, the actual military site is a better ref for the citation itself. I hope you agree with that assessment. My intention is to add the AMOHW ref to all the recipients for the citation for the ones that are missing or broken. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. --Kumioko (talk) 00:10, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I didn't realize you weren't done. I now see what you're doing. The only change I'd ask for is to put these boiler-plate public domain notices at the end of the Refs, not the beginning. I always put the websites last in lists of primarily books. Thanks. Hal Jespersen (talk) 14:05, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Don't give up :)
Hi,
I would like you to reconsider your idea of giving up on FPC. I'm not a photographer (as a matter of fact, i don't even own a camera, not even a basic one for family use !). When i first came upon FPC, I was attracted by the beautiful pictures, but like you, I couldn't understand the technical details, and couldn't understand why some pictures were rejected. But I still voted on images I felt confident i could vote on (anyone can access EV for example), and read the others votes to understand the technical details. It was a bit painful at first, but gradually I felt more and more confident. Now, I'm a regular voter there, and as a personal gain, I've learned quite a lot about technical defects and photographic techniques. So I strongly encourage you to stay and vote with us, and I'm confident you will overcome your current difficulties. Regards Ksempac (talk) 07:16, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

I was just looking at that too. The Military Times page used as a reference has a picture of the Medal of Honor, but the citation is for the Distinguished Service Cross. I searched Home of Heroes for any mention of a Medal of Honor recipient named Lynn Smith and found nothing, but it does list Lynn Smith as a DSC recipient here. It seems that the Military Times is just using a picture of the wrong medal. I'm about to remove him from the MOH list and edit the article. — jwillbur 19:01, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Alexander Gordon Lyle
Hello! Your submission of Alexander Gordon Lyle at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! orangefreak33 18:10, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
I read the note you left on the affiliated talk page. I think you may not have realized that the article had been up at AfD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jac Vanek) and failed, which I believe is why it was deleted. I just wanted to mention that because it seemed like no one was going to bother to mention it to you. If you have any questions or problems, I'm at your service. List of Asian American recipients of Medal of Honor

Hi Kumioko, the ArticleHistory problem didn't need fixing, it needed removing :) An event should never be added to the template if it is still in progress. An "active" FLC should not be noted in the template; it should only be moved into the template when the FLC has been closed and there has been an outcome (featured/not featured). {{ArticleHistory}} is quite a difficult template to use, so don't worry. Best wishes, Fvasconcellos (t·c) 19:46, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- Anytime. Removing the thing entirely was actually the answer—don't forget that {{ArticleHistory}} should never be used for current events (GAN, FAC, FLC, etc.), only for completed ones! Best wishes, Fvasconcellos (t·c) 20:22, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I hope this has been cleared up ... from the top of the instructions at {{Articlehistory}}:
- This template cannot be used for placing Good article nominations on hold or for nominating articles for processes such as Featured article candidate, Good article candidate, Peer review or Featured article review, and should never be used for processes that are still in progress; items are only added to the template after they are closed.
Removing the incorrect entry was the only change needed on talk. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:10, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Future plans
Wow, you have a lot of things in the works! In regards to combining the Hispanic and Puerto Rican lists, you might want to mention it to User:Marine 69-71 since he created both lists. I am (slowly) adding alt text to the WWII and Vietnam lists, and searching for more photos of the recipients. The alt text is one step closer to FLC for those two. — jwillbur 20:31, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Antulio Segarra
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Antulio Segarra. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Antulio Segarra. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation!
To ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.
It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:
- Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
- Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
- Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
- Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.
- Featured articles (which were worth 50 points last year) will now be worth 100 points.
- Featured topics (which were worth 10 points per article last year) will now be worth 15 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- Good topics (which were worth 5 points per article last year) will now be worth 10 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- In the news will still be awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
If you have any final concerns about the WikiCup's rules and regulations, please ask them now, before the Cup begins to avoid last minute problems. You may come to the WikiCup's talk page, or any of the judge's user talk pages. We're looking forwards to a great 2010 WikiCup! You may not use the flag of Mexico." Please return to the signups page and choose a new flag that meets these requirements. Thank you! iMatthew talk at 22:33, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi KumiokoCleanStart! This is the last message that will go out to remind you that in order to participate in the 2010 WikiCup, you MUST remove your name from this list! Side effect of Sources → References change
As the newly revised Donald Eugene O'Brien page shows, your latest round of housecleaning can leave pages (especially bios of federal judges) with two separate sections entitled "References." This has happened when a bot-created federal judge bio had already been enhanced to include proper citations, which were appropriately put in a new "References" section. At the moment of creation, the title of the bot-created section with the external link to the subject judge's subpart of the Biographical Directory of Federal Judges had been titled "Sources," and you're automatically converting that to Sources. The Sources → References change may in theory be an improvement, given the protocol for layout, but it shouldn't result in two "References" sections. My suggestion is that, where there already is a References section in a bio, and the Sources section follows it, just have the bot or protocol delete the Sources title altogether. Hi KumiokoCleanStart! The flag you chose for the 2010 WikiCup was removed either because it was already taken by another editor, or it didn't meet the criteria. - That doesn't work either. You need to pick a flag that is of a (current or historical) continent, country, state, county or city and has NOT already been chosen by another contestant. Again, please pick one that fits this criteria, or one will be chosen for you. iMatthew talk at 15:21, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- Also, if you are still planning on participating, you must remove your name from this list before Friday. iMatthew talk at 15:23, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, the Earth flag isn't really acceptable either- we've already denied it to someone else. J Milburn (talk) 16:09, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Hey, as no flag was chosen, I've randomly assigned the flag of Switzerland. You're welcome to switch it to something else before the beginning of the contest :) J Milburn (talk) 02:12, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Hello from Nagasaki, Japan ^.^
Hello, Kumioko, I noticed that you edited a page I've suggested some changes to. Since I'm very new here whereas you have great experience, I hope you'll look over my suggestions & use whatever is appropriate. Also, since you have interest in military pages, I have similar suggestions about quite a few more (over a hundred, some of which may not exist yet) so perhaps you'd be interested in those, too.
The one I need your help on is: Talk page of Eugene P. Wilkinson
Examples of two more military pages I've finished adding oral-history links to are: Elmo Zumwalt & Paul A. Yost, Jr.
I'm trying to write a page on Paul Stillwell (Just playing in the sandbox with it & studying various Wikipedia articles now, but ...) I believe the work he's done is so useful for other military pages that you and other interested editors should look at what he's written: List of 161 books from WorldCat
Amazon.com's editorial review and author biography:
Submarine Stories: Recollections from the Diesel Boats
Culled from many never-before-published narratives and oral histories conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Naval Institute, Submarine Stories presents nearly five dozen first-person accounts from men who were involved with gasoline- and diesel-powered submarines during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The story of these boats, their technological evolution and tactical value, is also the story of the men who went to sea in them. The accounts illustrate the human aspects of serving in diesel boats: the training, operations in peacetime and war, liberty exploits, humorous sidelights, and special feelings of bonding and camaraderie that grew among shipmates.
Included here are some familiar names. Slade Cutter, who earned four Navy Crosses as a skipper in World War II, describes the process that made him a capable submariner. Dennis Wilkinson, first skipper of the nuclear-powered Nautilus in the 1950s, tells of being in the first missile-firing submarine in the 1940s. Robert McNitt recalls his experiences as executive officer to Medal of Honor skipper Gene Fluckey. Among the other submariners who present their personal memories are Jerry Beckley, contemplating the possibility of firing nuclear missiles during the 1962 Cuban crisis; Hosey Mays, describing what it was like to be a black man in a boat with a nearly all-white crew; Paul Foster, discussing the sinking a German U-boat in World War I; and Wayne Miller, explaining the enormous satisfaction he felt when he earned his silver dolphins.
PAUL STILLWELL, an independent historian, is the editor or author of nine previous books, including one on submarines titled Sharks of Steel, which he coauthored with Vice Adm. Robert Y. Kaufman. Other books include three collections of oral histories: Air Raid: Pearl Harbor! Recollections of a Day of Infamy, Assault on Normandy: First-Person Accounts from the Sea Services, and The Golden Thirteen: Recollections of the First Black Naval Officers. In addition, he wrote three illustrated battleship histories of the USS Arizona, New Jersey, and Missouri that are filled with stories of crew-members. All of these titles were published by the Naval Institute Press. The Golden Thirteen was named by the New York Times as one of the notable history books of 1993. Stillwell has been a frequent guest on network and cable television programs, including NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, the Discovery Channel, A&E, and the History Channel.
Stillwell was director of the U.S. Naval Institute's history division from 1993 to 2004. Prior to that he served as the first editor-in-chief of the Institute's Naval History magazine and earlier was managing editor of the organization's Proceedings magazine. From 1982 to 2004 he served as director of the Naval Institute s oral history program, one of the oldest and largest in the United States.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, Stillwell is a retired Naval Reserve commander who served in the late 1960s on board the tank landing ship Washoe County and the battleship New Jersey. He and his wife Karen live in Arnold, Maryland. They are the parents of three sons, James, Robert, and Joseph.
I'm just a beginner at Wikipedia and have one full-time job (about 12 hours a day five days a week) plus a part-time job on weekends, so ...

Thank you
To all my friends in Wikipedia. After so many years I have decided to take an extended leave from the project. My continued participation in the project has become less enjoyable as I have explained [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikiquette_alerts#User:Damiens.rf_should_be_told_to_stop_his_rudeness_and_Wikihounding here]. I thank God that I became involved in the project in the first place because not only have I used it to educate others, but I have also learned a lot from friends such as yourself. Try to maintain a high standard in your contributions and make sure that the truth is always told in what you write. I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year, may God Bless you and thank you for your friendship. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:33, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Francis E. Dec
Would you please stop editing the article on Francis E. Dec using Project:AWB. Every time you are doing this, you are replacing the name "Dec" with "December". Hence, everery time you edit the article, I have to edit it right back again. This takes up time and energy I just don't have. Thank you. 109.58.8.251 (talk) 18:07, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
- Once is an error and excusable but twice in three days is just careless. Please look at what you are editing. Please go back and review all your edits that were made using AWB to ensure that you have made no other errors. Thanks. The 2010 WikiCup begins tomorrow!
Welcome to the biggest WikiCup Wikipedia has yet seen! Round one will take place over two months, and finish on February 26. There is only one pool, and the top 64 will progress. The competition will be tough, as more than half of the current competitors will not make it to round 2. Details about scoring have been finalized and are explained at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Please make sure you're familiar with the scoring rules, because any submissions made that violate these rules will be removed. Like always, the judges can be reached through the WikiCup talk pages, on their talk page, or over IRC with any issues concerning anything tied to the Cup. We will keep in contact with you via weekly newsletters; if you do not want to receive them, please remove yourself from the list here. Conversely, if a non-WikiCup participant wishes to receive the newsletters, they may add themselves to that list. Well, enough talk- get writing! Your submission's page is located here. Details on how to submit your content is located here, so be sure to check that out! Once content has been recognized, it can be added to your submissions page, from which our bot will update the main score table. Remember that only articles worked on and nominated during the competition are eligible for points. Have fun, and good luck! Garden, iMatthew, J Milburn, and The ed17 19:20, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Here are some other errors, changing a quote, changing the spelling of the name, changing a quote and this. You changed the date to match US style but if you scroll down there are three others that didn't get changed. Moving forward for Portal:United States
The nomination for FP for Portal:United States was closed as unsuccessful. I've got six months of anniversaries left to do, and I've got about six weeks of relatively consistent access to the internet before I hit a point where I won't be able to say for sure if I'll have any access at all. I'll get as much done on that as possible. Once I'm done with that, we can give it another run. There were a few other minor issues that got brought up during the nomination, but I don't see anything particularly difficult standing in the way of the third nomination. I'll be in touch when the anniversaries are done. Sven Manguard Wha? 06:44, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- Great thanks for letting me know. Ill try to help out too but Ill be travelling a lot over the next month. --Kumioko (talk) 13:16, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Regarding your plans to revamp it, I've been the primary maintainer of the portal since shortly after Aude created it. I think the In the news section ought to be kept. I'm less attached to the sections for legislation, court cases, and administration activities, although I think having that information in some form is useful and I've been keeping it moderately up to date. The WikiProject's section could use some work. Finally, I dropped a note on the portal's talk page about a featured content section. Cheers.--Chaser2 (talk) 17:23, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for the note. I will post my ideas on the talk page as well. --Kumioko (talk) 17:26, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
WikiProject United States and Wikipedia:Meetup/US ?
Hi Kumioko. With the success of the recent Great American Wiknic, I was thinking that we should pursue more national multi-events, perhaps more oriented around content-building and WikiProject United States. What do you think about us starting a centralized Wikipedia:Meetup/US along these lines?--Pharos (talk) 20:11, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- That sounds like an awesome idea. --Kumioko (talk) 20:13, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- Cool, you can see the ongoing discussion at Wikipedia talk:Wiknic#Future national multi-events.--Pharos (talk) 04:20, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
Hello my friend
I dont want to see you on the wrong side of the fence here. I will explain a few reason why I believe we should not delete project if they are not in bad taste. We have created banners/tag because....
- Deleting a project only makes it not visible to normal readers (non-admins) - thus does not save any space on Wiki as all pages are retained for historical reference purposes they just may not all be seen by the public.
- We have the tags/banners Template:Historical and Template:Dormant so that old projects that did some work can still been seen by our readers - thus the projects will not be made again by mistake and or it could (but not likely) be revived.
- We have the tags/banners Template:Defunct and Template:Mothballed so that we dont delete this fail projects that never got of the ground - because we want our editors to see why this projects were not viable (no members - not a broad topic etc..) - again may prevent a new project with a similar topic from being made.
- We are free to post links on the failed projects to other projects that cover this topics - thus redirecting wanted editors to the proper projects that are still alive.
So basically deleting the pages causes undo conflict and leads to projects being remade or ones similar being made because editors cant see why they failed in the first place. Moxy (talk) 19:35, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- Great to hear from you and I see your point but there are also a couple good reasons why we shouldn't leave them all either.
- If us non admin folk don't see a project we are less likely to join it thinking its still active. I have seen a lot of editors join inactive and defunct projects because they don't understand how these work and then wonder why questions go unanswered.
- Aside from just saving space a lot of these projects are just clutter. There are some I admit that have been submitted for deletion that I thought were silly but the majority probably should never have been made into projects to begin with. Many barley have the scope or number of articles to rate as a task force let alone a project. As for telling our users why they failed I don't believe I have ever seen a project say anything about why it failed.
- I look at it this way, we have a process for deleting unneeded, unwarranted and improper articles, files and other types of content and we should do that for Projects as well. If we have a project that has been abandoned for a long period of time, has not been created properly, has such a narrow scope or size that it can't succeed, etc. then we should suggest getting rid of it. I understand what your saying and thats why I just submit it for MFD and let the group decide. If there is sufficient interest to keep it thats fine, if not then thats ok too. --Kumioko (talk) 19:49, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
Re: Template:WikiProject United States
Hi, I've fixed and added WikiProject West Virginia, South Carolina, Presidential elections and Franco Americans per your request Kumioko. Sorry I got litte disruptive, after my ANI, which I've nominated large deletions, including WikiProject Mecrosur and Wikiproject Conan O'Brien, however, I have still good faiths, but I will still be with you. Changing project templates
Hi, can you please check the articles you're changing the templates for. You converted several school alumni categories for Durham, North East England, United Kingdom to WikiProject United States. Timrollpickering (talk) 19:53, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
- Oh I apologize. I thougtht that template was for Durham, North Carolina. Did you fix them already or do you want me to do that?--Kumioko (talk) 19:55, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
- I've reverted all the ones I've seen. Timrollpickering (talk) 00:37, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- Ok thanks, there were only about 10 and they were all categories. --Kumioko (talk) 00:57, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Template:WikiProject United States/sandbox
i see you have overwritten my last edit that has an outstanding edit protected on it. Have you just missed this change request or do you disagree with my change? --Traveler100 (talk) 18:04, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry about that I didn't even see that. I'll fix that now. Kumioko (talk) 18:18, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
November 2012
Your user page User_talk:Kumioko/sandbox, by reason of its contents, was accidentally included in a content category. It has been corrected for you. For information about this, please see the guidelines about the categorization of user pages. Thank you. Actually, Kumioko, the issue is not corrected. I'm not sure what your goal is for the sandbox, but it has resulted in a lot of "missing coordinates" categories. (Making the culling process for cleaning up the missing coordinates endeavor a bit more difficult.) Can you correct please? Thanks so much. S. Rich (talk) 17:43, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

- Your welcome. If you see any more of my pages popping up please feel free to just blank them. I'm retired from editing. Jsut fyi throug, for this one I was working to make sure that the template had all the categories and to do lists and other things created but I gave up on that because I do not have access to edit protected templates and it was taking a week or more for an admin to make the change. That's is part of the reason I retired from editing. It's just becoming too hard to get anything done because so much content is protected and I am not an admin. I'm still watching my talk page for now and making the occassional comment, but I am done editing. Kumioko (talk) 18:31, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
