Nice

For your contributions to NBA related articles I award you this shiny star thingy. Top notch! KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 00:33, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

nba career stats

hi, for the playoffs table, i might have thought that linking eg 2003 nba playoffs would be more appropriate than 2003-03 season. Chensiyuan (talk) 14:52, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Ah, yes...didn't think about that. I will link to the playoffs for the remaining ~15% of active NBA player articles, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to go back just to change a few links. Thanks for the notice. —LOL T/C 14:56, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for taking care of the playoff stats for Pau Gasol, I would've done them myself, but just have not had the time. Gamloverks (talk) 16:07, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

No problem. :) If there are any changes you'd like to make to the table, feel free to discuss them at WT:NBA#Career player statistics. —LOL T/C 16:13, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Changing quotation style

Hello there. I would like to ask you to stop editing articles just to change the quotation style. This is typically something that's not worth changing when an article already uses a certain style, similar to how you wouldn't suddenly change the spelling from British English to American English. (I'm talking about these edits: [1] [2].) —msikma (user, talk) 06:39, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Regarding this message: It was not the quotation style I changed; it was merely the glyphs. But anyway, why is it not worth changing? WP:MOS has said for at least a few months that "The exclusive use of straight quotes and apostrophes is recommended." It has never told us to exclusively use a particular variety of English. —LOL T/C 13:42, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi there. First of all, I'm sorry for insinuating that you were making a mistake by doing so. I've been gone from Wikipedia for a long time, and I seem to remember the rule being different at some point. (At that time there was no consensus about whether we should use curly or straight apostrophes. I was involved in it for a short while because I was helping out with the "cite web" template back then.) I didn't figure we'd ever get a consensus either. If the manual states that straight apostrophes are preferred, well, then I guess it's for the better that we use them, then. I'll roll back to your changes. Sorry to have bothered you! —msikma (user, talk) 18:51, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I see you already did roll them back. Well, that's fine then. I still think it's kind of strange, since I never thought there'd ever be a consensus on such a thing. Then again, it's probably best to keep them straight and then ask the MediaWiki developers to automatically make them curly... it definitely saves a lot of hard work copying and pasting those things. —msikma (user, talk) 18:54, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Hey, can you please help? I made the imperial units bold for better recognition (click here), but it's too hard for me to do it for the height. Could you please contribute? ● 8~Hype @ 14:57, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Regarding this message: I did what you asked as a scripting exercise but I personally dislike the striking markup. I find that it's distracting and unnecessary because the metric units are already in parentheses. —LOL T/C 19:58, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, maybe we can seperate it some other way? It's just too confusing for me personally as it was before. The imperial units are the main units and therefore should be superior to the metric ones. ● 8~Hype @ 20:00, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

I think the imperial units were already superior because they appear on the left and are not in parentheses, but how about a slightly bigger font size rather than the bold markup? —LOL T/C 20:07, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

OK, please try it. ● 8~Hype @ 20:10, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

DraftExpress has a very detailed database of pre-draft measurements. I think we should implement it into Template:Infobox NBA Player, similar to the official NBA profile, and on the respective page of the player, you would only enter the draft year to get to the page of his draft and see his measurements. Do you think this is a good idea? Some player's official height and weight are sometimes very different from their measurements, and it would be nice to know through one click e.g. what vertical a player had. ● 8~Hype @ 12:16, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Alright, I've fixed all the colors, maybe some fixes still have to be done. Here are the places where those colors have to be used (on the basis of the Boston Celtics):

Any more places you can think of? ● 8~Hype @ 09:36, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I've declined your speedy tag on this template, since violating WP:CRYSTAL isn't itself a criteria for Speedy Deletion. You might consider filing a request at Templates for Deletion. Best, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 22:21, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

When are you going to apply the colors to the templates, etc? ● 8~Hype @ 22:56, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

It appears that there is still some conflict regarding the colour choices, so I'm afraid to use them at the present time. I plan to slowly create some more general templates that use {{NBA color}} before employing them later this month. —LOL T/C 23:06, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

I made a couple more changes. ● 8~Hype @ 10:50, 19 July 2008 (UTC) By the way: I think three or four colors should be used for the current roster templates (Example: Memphis). The 1st color for the heading, the 2nd for the font of the team name, the 3rd/4th for the font of "current roster" and the 2nd (3rd or 4th if all four colors) for "v • d • e" (through "titlestyle = color: [...]"). Do you think this is a good idea? I don't think two colors are enough. ● 8~Hype @ 17:35, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

A different colour for "vde" is probably not necessary as it doesn't help navigation, but it would for "current roster" because there is an adjacent link to the team. The main problem is that the preferable colour varies between teams; for example, the Knicks' secondary and tertiary colours are the same, but the Nuggets' secondary and quaternary colours are the same. —LOL T/C 17:53, 20 July 2008 (UTC) P.S. You don't have to message me because the templates I created are on my watchlist. I think it would be a good idea to move our discussion to the template talk in case a third party would like to discuss.

I made some more changes. I also fixed all the current roster templates with three colors per team. ● 8~Hype @ 18:22, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Caps in mammal articles

Hello, LOL! Just a head's up, please do not "fix" the capitalization in mammal articles, nor try to move mammal articles to try to "fix" the capitalization. I place "fix" in quotes, because you may mean well but not be aware of the ramifications. Currently, the only consensus on mammal article capitalization is that there is no consensus. BUT, there is a consensus that any "fix" will be reverted immediately, no questions asked. I just wanted to give you a head's up in case you were not aware of the hornet's nest you were walking into. Do you have any intentions of continuing this project? It was one of the best I have seen on Wikipedia. The colors need to be applied to several other templates, but still is only used for the current roster template. How come? ● 8~Hype @ 04:44, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I do. I'm just taking my time because the regular season is over two months away. —LOL T/C 03:25, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

LOL, I just realized that the current roster templates still don't use {{NBA current roster}}. You have made previews in your sandbox, but haven't applied them to the actual templates. Will you do it sometime in the near future? Will you also apply the colors from {{NBA color}} to other team templates? ● 8~Hype @ 12:20, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes and yes, I plan to employ {{NBA color}} on a large scale prior to the regular season, but at a slow pace. —LOL T/C 02:48, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Good work with the NBA schedules

I have to hand it to you, thanks for taking care of them. That must have taken a lot of tedious work, we appreciate it. Keep it up Monster Under Your Bed (talk) 08:32, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

I award this to LOL for making me laugh out loud at all his terrific edits because they are suberb and they defenitely dont go overlooked. I know how tedious and repetitive the work you do is, believe me but hopefully with this dedication it will realise how important you are to the project with the work you put in. Thanks, I'm pretty happy I can use programming to help the project with tedious tasks. :) —LOL T/C 15:19, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Game logs

All the game logs you have created have one major mistake: The opponent's name should be the city, not the team name. Just look at the 07-08 templates. People who aren't diehard fans won't be able to recognize teams by the team's name. ● 8~Hype @ 12:23, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I'll work on that. I just followed the 2008–09 Lakers game log because of WT:NBA and nobody seemed to care. —LOL T/C 02:45, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

I have another suggestions: I have added a row to {{2008–09 Boston Celtics season game log}} with the label "NBA All-Star Weekend" in order to have a border between - as many people like to call them - the "first" and the "second half" of the season. Also, I saw that you have applied the new template to {{2008–09 Charlotte Bobcats season game log}}, {{2008–09 Chicago Bulls season game log}}, etc. Did you just test it, or do you aim to do the same for other team templates which don't use the new template? Also, I don't think the other months should be hidden, as you would have to update the template each month, and new users wouldn't understand at once that it is expandable. ● 8~Hype @ 19:59, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm not picky about the "NBA All-Star Weekend" row, but you may want to ask WT:NBA to see if they approve it. It'll have to be added to each of the templates manually. I do plan to apply the new templates to the rest of the game logs, but once again, I'm going to be patient about it in case errors will be pointed out later. I'm not picky about the collapsible months either, but it may be wise to ask WT:NBA about them as well. I'd like to point out however that updating {{NBA game log section}} would not be at all because all I need to do is spend a few seconds on the #switch at the beginning of each month. —LOL T/C 20:21, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Depth charts

I know you are busy and will apply the colors to the depth charts, but I just wanted to explain you in advance how I think it should be done. Example ({{2008–09 Detroit Pistons depth chart}}):

  • The header is blue (color 1)
  • The font on the header is white (color 2)
  • The background of the positions is red (color 3)
  • The font of the positions is white (color 4)
  • The background of the inactive list is red (color 3)
  • The font of the inactive list ist white (color 4)
  • The font of the active players is blue (color 1)

I think that way it can be applied to all the other depth chart templates. What do you think? ● 8~Hype @ 13:18, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

In that depth chart, I find that the inactive column is too distracting; the least important cells should not stand out more than the row headings. Also, I'm not sure if a white background is suitable for all the primary colours; even if they currently are, team colours change, so the active players cells for a franchise might become difficult to read in the future. A possible solution would be to allow users to decide which colour to use for the font, but I want to avoid having any quarrels about what's the best colour. The best solution I can see now is to simply leave the active columns' font at default and give the inactive column a grey font. —LOL T/C 20:05, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

I applied all the changes I listed to {{NBA depth chart}}, and it looks very sweet. Let's just try following: Leave the template as it is, and create the depth charts of each team with that template. If a template will be unreadable because of the colors - hey, we can always change it back, which is a matter of seconds. And I just realized how great the new templates are you created. It makes life much, much easier. Great work! Also, if you want me to help you in any way, just let me know. ● 8~Hype @ 20:31, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

I just noticed a little mistake in {{NBA depth chart}}: If you have an injured player on the inactive list and the player has an injured symbol next to his name, the font of the name is automatically set to standard (Example: {{2008–09 Philadelphia 76ers depth chart}}). Also, if you put two names in one cell through <br>, the same happens. ● 8~Hype @ 14:23, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

P.S.: I have created all the missing depth charts, but haven't filled them out. So what do you think? ● 8~Hype @ 15:20, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Here is the solution. From what I've tested, <font color="color"> doesn't work for the link if there is anything else (in this case, the image) within the font tags. —LOL T/C 21:14, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Just to let you know

Theres 2 teams you have forgotten to do, mainly the Mavs and the Blazers. Well, someone has been kind enough to do Portland but its out of whack in terms of consistency with the other logs. Im going to leave a note on his talk page about this so feel free to use your script to finish the job off. Cheers Monster Under Your Bed (talk) 10:34, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

player stats and game logs

Hi... long time no see. More optimistic about the Raps this season... anyway, i can't quite remember, but for the player stats template that you created, do they have to be updated manually? same for game logs? thanks Chensiyuan (talk) 07:57, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

José's improvement seems to mitigate the loss of T.J., and I'm pretty happy with the frontcourt. :)
I'm currently working on a program that will produce updated game logs using ESPN. As for the player stats, I need to get a bot approved. Sorry for being slow! —LOL T/C 17:41, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
No prob, those bots would be handy... go Raps!! Chensiyuan (talk) 10:27, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

P.S. The Bucks are going dowwwn!

Do me a favour?

Can you read this discussion i started on the help page and add the last change suggested by Dendodge to the Template:NBA Finals summary. I have tried to do it but have made a meal out of it so far. The issue has got to do with 2009 > not appearing on the 2008 NBA Finals page. Thanks Monster Under Your Bed (talk) 05:11, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

I've given it a shot, so let me know if there are any more technical problems. Note that the old version may still be in your cache, so simply refreshing 2008 NBA Finals may still not display the link to 2009. As a solution, you can clear your cache or just go here and click preview. —LOL T/C 05:50, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Gaussian Integral Reference

Hi I am trying to find the reference for the third equation under "n-dimensional and functional generalization" on the page Gaussian Integral. Sorry, I do not know where it came from, but perhaps someone can answer your question if you ask at Talk:Gaussian integral. I stole some of your code to use at 2008-09 Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team. Is it possible to make the template more general so I can change the color from black to blue text on a maize background for each month. Also is there a way to make the end box refer to a page such as http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/teams/schedule?teamId=130? Maybe you could make an NCAA basketball set of templates.
