Tower of Babel[edit]

Hi Lafayette Baguette,

You just declined two edits I made to Tower of Babel. I guess a new user removing swathes of text and sources appears to be vandalism? :)

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tower_of_Babel&diff=893080863&oldid=892598573

My first edit removed an inaccurate statement re: the dates of the Etemenanki (an article I've been trying to bend into shape)

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tower_of_Babel&diff=893081207&oldid=893080863

The second removed a couple of sentences that were overkill for the introduction. The intro should summarize the Tower of Babel not Etemenanki. The material is covered later in the Babel article and at the Etemenanki article, nothing was actually lost.

Please would you consider "undoing" your "undo"? Mango Mapes (talk) 21:47, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Mango Mapes. If the first edit I declined was an inaccurate statement, I do apologize for that. I will revert my revert. The second however, appeared to be removal of a lot of content. The content appeared (while quite specific) reliable and useful. Best regards, Lafayette Baguette talk 21:51, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the second edit, I accidentally removed the sentence "A Sumerian story with some similar elements is told in Enmerkar and the Lord of Aratta". Sorry about that. The height could be merged into the previous sentence perhaps, something like: "notably the Etemenanki, a 91 meter-high ziggurat dedicated to the Mesopotamian god Marduk.." This figure for the height is somewhat speculative though! The reference the destruction by Alexander just seems too much for the introduction, it took place after the Babel story was recorded. I will try again! Mango Mapes (talk) 22:00, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
nevermind, I see you changed it back! Thanks. Mango Mapes (talk) 22:01, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to Daniel Craig page.[edit]

Hi,

I would just like to enquire exactly why so many people are obsessed with pursuing this belief that Daniel Craig is an atheist when he has NEVER once made any such claim, and your only supporting quote is allegedly from a German magazine.

I’ve been a journalist for 15 years and I’m sorry to say that people in the media lie all the time. We make up quotes to support the articles we are writing. Think about it logically. An actor is interviewed about a role where is he playing an atheist journalist. Do you honestly think the publication is going to report that he is anything other than an atheist in real life as well? A millionaire atheist actor who attends a United Nations assembly specifically to hear the leader of the Catholic Church giving a talk, and taking photographs of the said leader of the Catholic Church. Not very plausible is it? The sources I provided were actual physical pictures of him alongside other well known public figures who are Catholics. You could see he was there. And then, years later, when commenting on the passing of a beloved fellow actor, he says that he hopes that “Wherever he (Albert Finney) is now, I hope there are horses and good company”. If he’s an atheist this comment would make no sense, since atheists believe that death is final. Then to top if off, his reaction when presenter Alex Zane asked him if there was anyone who could make him return to the role of 007 after Bond 25, Craig’s answer was simple: “God.” Just as he said his success as 007 before Casino Royale was “in the lap of the gods”. Atheists don’t believe in God.

I’m not for a minute suggesting that Craig is a religious person. He’s said he’s never been a church goer, but neither am I but I still regard myself a Catholic. But your straw man argument is incredibly weak when you’re relying on something which MAY have been said in a foreign interview. You have no way of proving that was what Craig said, or if the interview even took place. Whereas I’ve provided photographic proof of Craig attending the Pope’s speech: you can see him standing alongside Bill and Melinda Gates. He was there in person. Why would he be there if he doesn’t believe in what the speaker represents? And the BBC is a far more credible source regarding quotes actors make than any claims made by a foreign publication about an interview which may not have even taken place. And yet you believe that this is cast iron proof that this actor is an atheist. I could say that Liam Nesson is my father’s second cousin, but unless I can provide evidence it means nothing. The same applies when you make sweeping statements about celebrities but have nothing to back it up. Surely common sense would tell you that your argument is weak to say the very least. I look forward to your response. Corkagetom (talk) 15:25, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not responsible for the first edit. What I did was revert your pending revision because Daniel Craig has not stated that he is an atheist, but he has stated that he isn't religious. Perhaps you could change the wording? Lafayette Baguette talk 15:27, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again, Corkagetom. I'm not going to go into specifics about my opinion on the situation, but I just wanted to say that if you were indeed citing from BBC News with the quote you provided, you needed to cite that more than anything else. ESPECIALLY for quotes. See WP:VERIFY (and WP:SOURCE within it). Lafayette Baguette talk 02:02, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your grasp of journalism is quite worrying if you are debating whether the BBC is a credible source yet you’re willing to accept an alleged quote from a German publication which isn’t even in Craig’s native language. There are photographs of him all over the internet meeting the Pope alongside Bill and Melinda Gates, not to mention visiting the Sistine Chapel and various UK churches. I thought Wikipedia was run by adults relying on verifiable fact, not speculative quotes.I guess I was wrong. Corkagetom (talk) 12:00, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
