There was an article done on a well known Sri Lankan author Anushka Wirasinha in 2008. It was in wikipedia for 2yrs and an unusual e-mail was sent to wiki foundation that claimed things that were not true but it led to the deletion of the page despite some editors wanting to keep it. Another editor did a huge amount of research and relisted it and it certainly met notability criteria as put forth by wikipedia in a number of ways, but it was deleted again. Admins couldn't understand Sri Lanka papers etc Now there is a deletion review I started I hope this article gets due credit and I need more material on this author to put together a new one if needed. Can anyone in wiki projects Sri Lanka help to get Sinhala and Tamil content about the author to me to add? I know these exist but ofcourse hard to get these. Hi, thanks for your contributions to the Colombo article. we are currently collectively trying to improve the article and will certainly appreciate your help. Do you think you can help expand some of the middle sections of the article by adding more content. Right now we have a lack of sources for the Geography, Education, Economy and a few other sections. Any of your help will be appreciated. Thanks. --snowolfD4( talk / @ ) 14:31, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SriLanka-artist-bio-stub

[edit]

Hi - a stub template or category which you created has been nominated for deletion or renaming at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type, which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, does not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 23:35, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your prodigious edits to the article Eelam War IV. However in-depth they may be, they are all completely uncited and written in barely comprehensible English. I am not attempting to ridicule you or put you down, as I realize English is your second language. However, it is essential that all articles on the English-language Wikipedia be written in proper, cogent English, as befitting an encyclopedia. I urge you to check out WP:CITE for examples on how and why to cite your edits. I also urge you to request the assistance of other editors if you need help proof-reading your submissions for grammar. Thank you again for your edits. BullzeyeComplaint Dept./Contribs) 09:07, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Eelam War IV

[edit]

Yeah machan, I think we should collaborate and improve that article greatly. Sorry I'm a little busy these days with exams but I'll be free after sometime next week so I'll be able to contribute then.

I thought we should move most of the text from the Civil War article into the Eelam War IV article and keep only a summery in the main article, per Wikipedia policies. Monowada kiyanne?--snowolfD4( talk / @ ) 19:15, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Machan its good to know that we found another Sri Lankan to maintain Sri Lankan Wiki articles :-)You're doing a great job by splitting lengthy articles into separate pages. But when you do so keep in mind to attach those inline references to the new articles. For example, on Palitha Kohona's article you have not given the references. Do add the references there. And the other thing is pal, don't directly copy and paste info from other web sites. Do some notable changes there and add. If you have any problem just keep a message on my talk page. I'll be happy to help :-) Happy Editing!! --♪♫ ĽąĦĩŘǔ ♫♪ walkie-talkie 10:48, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Citing the reference in the edit summary field is not enough. Redirect of Nanda malini

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Nanda malini, by Mschel, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Nanda malini is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Nanda malini, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Nanda malini itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 00:35, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Rekava.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Rekava.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 16:24, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Gamini.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gamini.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 16:26, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Loolecondera logo.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Yamla 16:27, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Poojauma1.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Poojauma1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:26, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I noticed your name on User:Bun's Talk page.

It appears that this editor may be inactive; and I wondered if you or someone you know would be willing to help expand a modest article about a prominent Sri Lankan educator?

I've developed a few suggestions for the improvement of an article which Bun initially created in early-August 2007. From my perspective, two areas which deserve revisiting are:

My editing strategy was informed by articles about other academics, like Prof. Karunaratne, whose work has been noticed and honored by the Japanese government:

I hope you will construe these comments as timely, well-meaning and constructive. --Tenmei (talk) 22:21, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Ramzirahaman1.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ramzirahaman1.jpg.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:24, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sri Lanka and Madagascar history relations?

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you're from Sri Lanka. I've made a contribution about Madagascar history (article: Andrianampoinimerina) and my personal researches point a possible origin in Sri Lanka and Malaysia for the Malagasy Merina nobility, because they brought the following elements circa AD 1200-1300,: Rajput and Jat wariors, Malay and Javanese wariors, Tamils peoples, Buddhism conception of life, planting Ficus Religiosa in their palace court, Sanskrit terms: calling cattle "jomoka" (Sanskrit gomukha), calling dogs "alika" (Sanskrit alika), calling music instrument "valiha" (Sanskrit "vaadya"), dressing in silk material, planting wet red rice in valley bottom ricefield, rice vocabulary is in Tamil, etc. we can found all of that in Sri Lankan history...it seems like they fly away from Sri Lanka with their clan after a terrible battle. So please, if you know anything about Rajput warriors along with Malays and Javaneses wariors who fled away from Sri Lanka after a terrible battle between AD 1200-1300 tell me: it will solve some big problems in Madagascar history! Thank you in advance. Cheers: Mounblow (talk) 04:18, 17 May 2008 (UTC) (PS: I've heard that a Malay (?) Chandrabhanu from Malay kingdom of Tambralinga has conquered Sri Lanka once, then he was attacked and muredered, do you know a little about what happened to his officers and militaries after that? Thank you.. Some Merina (Malagasy) vocabularies: Lapa, Ruva: palace; cattle: jomoka/gomukh (which come from the sanskrit "go"=cow and "mukh"=head); rice: vari; dog: alika; young woman: kala; elite: sangha...Do you get the same in Sri Lanka?[reply]

hello, i am deeply interested in this issue and in the outcomes of your respective researches on this subject, since i also came out recently with the same conclusions

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Baddegama1.jpg}

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Baddegama1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. The article Ramzi Rahaman has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable hairdresser and designer

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. WWGB (talk) 13:22, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your contributions. I have looked over them but not as much as I would have liked to, as there have been other things grabbing my attention on Wikipedia right now. I have fixed up Atamasthana a bit but the content in each section is just a copy from each article, which will be need to change. Seruvila Mangala Raja Maha Viharaya seems to be well written but I haven't looked at it in 'detail, for the reasons given above, but I hope I do in the near future. Concerning Solosmasthana I think the way it was before you added Seruvila Mangala Raja Maha Viharaya as one of the site was correct. The previous editor, whom I knew was to be a good one, edited the whole page and its subpages and he wouldn't have included it if it wasn't there. Also one one of the sources, the UN one, have said it is one of the sites. But I think this might be a mistake.

Also I have noticed that you created History of Sri Lanka: pre-Colonial era (500 BC – 1505 AD) a while ago, I was wondering why and would ask you to delete it considering that Sri Lankan history is not divided into pre-Colonial and post-Colonial.

I look forward to working with you! I hope you reply. Regards and happy editing.--Blackknight12 (talk) 03:29, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:03, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Atanatiya Sutta requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/dn/dn.32.0.piya.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
