List of geologists[edit]

I reverted your addition of LJ Cabri to the list because it seem very likely that you are either the subject of that article or someone closely related. RockMagnetist restored your edit, which is fine, because as an editor with no connection he can do that. You should also revert your edits to the Louis J. Cabri article. You can propose them on the article's talk page, allowing someone else to add them if they think that it is appropriate. Please read Wikipedia:Conflicts of interest for a fuller explanation. Editing Henry Clifford De Meillon (1800-1859)[edit]

Having done extensive research on him and his family, I have started editing what others have entered. Many of the references that were cited are erroneous or out-of-date. I am new to editing so would appreciate if a more experienced person can review what I have done so far, let me know if I need to do it differently or has other suggestions.

Hello, it's me again. I'm afraid that it isn't ok to make changes to an article citing what appears to be your own work. This is regarded here as self promotion. If you are aware of reliable sources independent of yourself that support your proposed changes, then please use those instead. I found this short biography
"The artist Henry Clifford De Meillon was born in London in December 1800 [baptism register of St James, Piccadilly, April 1802]. He joined the Royal Navy in 1821 as a volunteer and by February 1822 was a member of the crew of HMS Leven when it sailed from England on a naval expedition to survey the eastern coast of Africa. He settled at the Cape of Good Hope in 1823, producing multiple copies of small watercolours of Cape Town buildings and the costume of Cape inhabitants between 1823 and 1832. De Meillon left Cape Town after 1832 for the eastern province where he served as a civil servant until his death at Port Elizabeth in 1859. (Dictionary of South African Biography, Cape Town, 1987; Anna Smith Cape Views and Costumes: water-colours by H C de Meillon in the Brenthurst Collection Johannesburg, The Brenthurst Press, 1978.]" from the Caroline Simpson Library and research collection here
You will know a lot better than me whether this information is reasonable, although its sourcing looks sound. If you do want to add this as a citation see WP:Referencing for beginners, which should help. I would be happy to help with citations if you find this difficult. Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Lcabri. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Nathan2055talk - contribs 21:42, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nathan2055, Hi Nathan, I'm pinging you here because I'm a helper on IRC, where I just talked to Lcabri. They've expressed confusion about your COI template; at a glance, I'm not quite sure what it is about either. I do see some previous apparent/potential COI edits in their contribution history, but it seems that they have previously been warned about those. Lcabri assures me he's just an 86 year old retired geologist who's trying to help fix errors on Wikipedia without promotional intent. With that in mind, could you explain your reasoning behind the template to him? Thanks and best, — Blablubbs (talkcontribs) 19:18, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
