File:Colorado-College-logo-horizontal.jpg

[edit]

Hello. I see you removed the {{PD-textlogo}} tag from File:Colorado-College-logo-horizontal.jpg. I am quite sure that this is the appropriate license tag. A logo comprised solely of simple geometric shapes, or text, is not original enough to cross the threshold of originality in US law. It can be, and quite probably is, protected by other forms of legislation such as trademark law, but it is not subject to copyright. Angus McLellan (Talk) 21:56, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Sorry, I didn't see at first that you had changed it intentionally and thought that I had just inadvertently selected the wrong license when I uploaded the file. I'll defer to your judgment on this. Leemark (talk) 22:20, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. It certainly doesn't do any real harm to pick a non-free license to start with. Someone can always change it later if they disagree. You can find information on image licenses and so on at Wikipedia:Image use policy. And if you have any general questions the Wikipedia:Help desk might be useful. All the best, Angus McLellan (Talk) 22:58, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages.
