File source problem with File:600full-stanley-kubrick.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:600full-stanley-kubrick.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yworo (talk) 02:07, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Just a source is not sufficient. The image also has to be either in the public domain or licensed under an open-source license. You can't just upload copyrighted images from websites. All the information should be provided when you upload the image. Please stop adding images to articles until you have shown that Wikipedia has the right to use it. We don't tolerate people uploading copyrighted image, even in ignorance. They will be deleted. I repeat, they will be deleted.

Also, please stop edit-warring to add the images to articles before you've established that Wikipedia can use them. You can be blocked for uploading copyright images as well as for edit-warring. You are skating on thin ice.

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Stanley Kubrick. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Yworo (talk) 20:54, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some other notes on images that hopefully clarify
Part of the issue with uploading images is that WP has fairly strict policies on what constitutes "fair use" of copyrighted images which are outlined at WP:NFCC. This means that to use copyrighted images (without overt permission of owner to use on WP) one has to demonstrate that the image significantly enhances the readers understanding of the subject of the article in a way that ties in with the article text. Sadly, this image I think seriously fails.
I have a personal vested interest in the issue as I myself uploaded most of the images in this article (though notably not the photo of young Kubrick in the infobox), and have gone to enormous lengths to see that they satisfy the criterion laid out in WP:NFCC and have still had images challenged by various other editors, in many cases leading to my replacing an image that was semi-compliant with one that was much moreso. Right now the image in this article from the film Lolita was officially nominated for deletion 5 or 6 days ago, and is in ongoing dispute. I think the reasons for its deletion are flawed, and hope it stays. Given all the trouble that's been taken and severe scrutiny that the images in this article have already had from various WP administrators, the last thing this article needs right now is a (non-free) photo that fairly blatantly and obviously fails to comply with WP:NFCC. Sorry about that. I realize your edit is very very much in WP:Good faith and that you are quite new to Wikipedia. I wish you well in your continued efforts.--WickerGuy (talk) 23:51, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
PS Some of the agreed interpretation of WP:NFCC is on various admin talk pages which have not yet made it to the main page. CHeers--WickerGuy (talk) 23:51, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:JokerMHBTAS.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:JokerMHBTAS.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.
