A tag has been placed on User:Linden Hall School, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Syrthiss (talk) 16:19, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because we are the oldest (266-year old) girls boarding school in the United States founded by the Moravian Church in Lititz, PA.

We are in the process of getting the school and its history listed on Wikipedia, which currently it is not.

We would like to also request assistance in making this happen from Wikipedia staff. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Linden Hall School (talkcontribs)

You should start by reading the guidelines for contributing to Wikipedia, including:
  • WP:Username policy: You may not use the name of an organization for an account name. Each account should represent one person. You don't have to use your real name, but you can't use the name of your school, company, etc.
  • WP:Spam: Articles must be written from a neutral point of view. They cannot be overly promotional in tone.
  • WP:Conflict of interest: While you aren't forbidden to edit on a topic you're related to (like your school or employer), you must be very careful that your writing remains neutral. You must rely on secondary sources whenever possible to document what others say about the subject, not just what the subject says about itself.
There are editors on Wikipedia who are willing to assist you, but you must be willing to work within Wikipedia's framework. —C.Fred (talk) 16:34, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, I just deleted your user page because of an issue more severe than promotional text. The majority of the text was a copyright violation, because it was copied from another website in violation of their terms of service. As it says at the top of every editing screen, "Content that violates any copyrights will be deleted." —C.Fred (talk) 16:37, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am the Communications Manger for Linden Hall. We are in the process of getting a page up about Linden Hall similar to ones of Mercersburg Academy and Sewickey Academy. Any assistance you could give would be helpful, as we would like to use similar information from our website (which tells about the school and which is why it is the same!)Who do I need to speak with directly at Wikipedia to make this happen so other users do not continue to delete our page?! Additionally, because others at the school will have access to this account, we do not want to assign a personal name other than the school's. Thank you for your help and consideration. There is a big problem with your statement, "others at the school will have access to this account". Shared accounts are prohibited. For any number of reasons, you should not be sharing the password for your account. I'd rather not block your account so quickly; however, any administrator could block the account if they feel it is being used by multiple people. —C.Fred (talk) 17:00, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Back to the core of your question. The best way would be to start an article about the school and focus on facts at the school. If it's the oldest girls' boarding school in the US, provide an independent source (like a newspaper story) that documents the claim. Wikipedia articles should be based on secondary sources, not primary sources.
The article should not contain text copied from the school's website. Even if the school donates the text to allow unlimited free use of the text, the tone could still be problematic. Expect other editors to change the wording: you don't own the text you submit, and you give consent for your contributions to be edited when you make them!
If you can provide a source, like a newspaper or magazine article, written about the school but not by a person associated with the school, I'll help you start the article. —C.Fred (talk) 17:06, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Linden Hall is mentioned in several other Wikipedia listings: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lititz,_Pennsylvania, albeit the one on Boarding schools http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_boarding_schools#Pennsylvania sends viewers to the wrong website. We're all over the Internet--examples:http://lancasteronline.com/article/lr/792632_UN-Art-Ambassador--visits-Linden-Hall.html Linden Hall School (talk) 17:19, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We also have a book about the school's 266 year history: Linden Hall: Enduring Values, Changing Times, copyright 1997, Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 97-61100 Linden Hall School (talk) 17:31, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User_talk:C.Fred : Perhaps you misunderstand. I will be contacting Wikipedia via their email: info-enwikimedia.org to ask for direct assistance in getting the information up.Linden Hall School (talk) 17:03, 19 December 2012 (UTC)Kristen Jenkins, Communications Manager for Linden Hall[reply]

They will probably tell you to work with the editors and administrators on the site—like me—to get the text up. About the only thing that an email to them will do is confirm your donation/free licensing of the text. —C.Fred (talk) 17:08, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That said, I've started a stub of an article at Linden Hall (school). Remember that any content that violates Wikipedia policy—copyright violation, promotional, non-neutral, unsourced, etc.—can be removed by any editor at any time. —C.Fred (talk) 17:30, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your assistance. I will upload history and information about the school today, similar to that of Mercersburg Academy page.Linden Hall School (talk) 17:36, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User:C.Fred: As an Editor, would you be able to assist me in creating a sidebar on the right-hand side of the page (like that of Mercersburg) to include location, basic information at a glance, map, etc.? Again, thank you for your assistance.Linden Hall School (talk) 17:40, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The template is {{Infobox school}}. You can see how each line starts with a pipe character, then a parameter name, equals sign, and the value. I've filled in the ones I could. Some of the lines are commented out to show the values from the sample template. Comments look like this: <!--This is a comment.--> Anything between the starting sequence and the ending sequence will not display in the article. —C.Fred (talk) 17:53, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

December 2012[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.  You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. If you prefer to be unblocked for the purpose of changing your username to a username which complies with our username policy, so that your contributions with this username are recorded as contributions of your new username and rather than creating a new account, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice instead. Thank you.
