Church of England diocesan coats of arms
Hi Lozleader,
I noticed that you uploaded some quality images of Church of England diocesan coats of arms back in 2006. I am attempting to secure images of all of these coats of arms for the table on List of Church of England dioceses. At present, there are 15 coats of arms missing. Are you able to upload these 15 missing coats of arms? Any help you are able to provide in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

- Hello there... well the pictures were adapted (coloured-in!) from black and white images in a 1915 out-of-copyright book. So I could do any of the other dioceses that were in existence then, but not the more recent ones. Lozleader (talk) 11:18, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Durham
- Hereford
- Lincoln
- Oxford
- Salisbury
- York
- All these are "recorded in the College of Arms", which means they probably pre-date the establishment of the college in 1484. Can also provide better pictures for Chichester, Hereford, Lichfield and Sodor & Man which are similarly ancient.
- Of the more recent ones the book has:
- Liverpool (granted 17 July 1882)
- Sheffield (21 April 1914)
- Southwell - as it was then called (27 July 1884). The Southwell arms contain references to Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, not sure if they have been changed since?
- The arms they have for Newcastle were unofficial, and are not the same as those eventually granted (on 29 September 1949).
- The arms of Derby Diocese were granted 29 October 1927 and reasonably easy to draw...
- Diocese of Europe? No idea...
- Diocese of Leeds is obviously very new so I don't know what they are doing for heraldry... if they get a grant it will probably appear in the College of Arms newsletter under "new grants". I can provide all the predecessors' arms.
- Leicester was granted arms on 12 August 1949:they aren't very complicated to draw/put together from bits of other ones.
- Portsmouth arms date from 25 July 1927. A little more challenging to put together but perhaps possible.

- Yep Southwell & Nottingham arms still including reference to Derbyshire. http://southwellchurches.nottingham.ac.uk/_main/hcoatarms.php
- The snippy statement that "It is pointed out that Davies has omitted to say that the Child is on the dexter, or right, arm" is unfair to Arthur Charles Fox-Davies as the official blazon from the letters patent does not mention this either, meaning it is at the discretion of the artist. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve.
