Hello, Lugnuts

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Goldsztajn and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I've proposed an article that you started, Solveig Andersson, for deletion because it meets one of the relevant criteria and I believe that the article obviously and uncontroversially does not belong in an encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to prevent the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Goldsztajn}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

Hi there LUGNUTS, from Portugal,

the reason i reverted your edit is because, from my (editorial) perspective, an intro should be (or maybe i've grown so accustomed to do it like this): 1 - sentence with subject's current occupation (or former, whatever the case), and then a space after writing their career summary.

Of course, i admit the usage of the rollback feature in this case was completely unwarranted, and for that i apologise. Sorry for any inconvenience (and also, no problem whatsoever with the article's current version, 100% fine too), happy editing! --Quite A Character (talk) 03:19, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

No problem. I tidied up the lead, as I don't think each one-liner needs its own paragraph. I'd also added the link to another person with the same name. If you want to change the former, then that's fine with me. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:19, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Film-related article advice

I'm a pretty new (2 years) editor here and I tend to focus more on the work than on how it all works... so I have a question for a more experienced film article editor. How would you recommend I go about, uh, getting "ahead of it" for locating sources for older film and film people articles that have poor or no sourcing at present? Are there lists of film/cast/crew articles that don't have sources or are only sourced to IMDd? Thanks! --DiamondRemley39 (talk) 12:36, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

@DiamondRemley39: thanks for getting stuck in with this! There is the category Category:Articles sourced by IMDb as a starting point. I'm not aware of specific lists as such, but the talkpages of the Film Project and Actor Project are also good places to ask about these. Thanks again. Reverting short article descriptions

Hello @Lugnuts:, I've noticed that you've been reverting edits I made in the short descriptions of several articles, particularly Italian films. Usually I will have changed it from something like "1987 film" to "1987 Italian drama film". Why have you been making these reverts? werewolf (talk) 21:58, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Wolfy. I'm going per the short description instructions - "The short description should be as brief as possible". Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:09, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
On a side note, you probably need to change your signature, as it's confusing to what your username is. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:10, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
Do you feel that an extra word here and there in the short description somehow detracts from its intended purpose?
I'm not sure what you mean about my signature. Would you mind clarifying? werewolf (talk) 04:22, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Do you mean because my username is Revirvlkodlaku and my signature is werewolf? I don't know how to change that, I didn't set it that way...werewolf (talk) 04:24, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Yes. Please see WP:SIG for help with this. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:47, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Ok, sure, thanks for the tip. With respect to the short descriptions though, I'm still a bit perplexed by your zeal to keep them as short as possible. Surely an extra word here and there doesn't render a very brief short description so unwieldy that it would require you to remove that extra word or two? If the description can be helpful to readers when they are scanning a list of entries, then wouldn't it be useful to just leave it as it is? werewolf (talk) 13:43, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi. I'm just going off the instructions I've quoted above, and the definition of the word short. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:46, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
It seems like you are simply enforcing a rule because it's a rule, without considering that this may not always be useful or best policy. If the addition of the word "Italian" to the short description "1934 Italian film" proves helpful to readers (and why shouldn't it?) while in no way affecting the aesthetic feel of the article, then why not just leave it? That just strikes me as being doctrinaire rather than practical. werewolf (talk) 00:10, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
Feel free to start a WP:RFC on this if you wish. In the meantime, I'm simply following what the instructions state. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:20, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
There are also tens of thousands of articles that do not have a short description. You could help by adding them to the ones that are missing. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:24, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Sérgio Ricardo

Hi Lugnuts, from Brazil I aprreciate the creation of Sérgio Ricardo's page that you produced. I work for his archives and we are trying to turn better the informations about him over the internet. He is 87 now and let a very big legacy to the people. I started to modify your Sérgio Ricardo's page, puting more content, not just because he is coming more famous in Brazil (finnaly, because he was marginalizated by media and penalized in copyrights), but because I'm very close from him. I am researching his career, his artwork, on his deep archive and discovering a long history beyond the fact that he broked the guitar on the stage in 1967. The references tha I used for changes are on one of his biography, called "Canto Vadio", wich i put in references as PDF. Please I ask you if is possible reconsider the article and the chages proposed for amelioration. Thank you in advance, Michel.schettert (researcher in brazilian culture). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2804:14D:5C54:4EFD:D4C:9B3C:956D:10B6 (talk) 16:54, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Laetitia Avia

Hi,

I reverted your removal on Laetitia Avia, as Mediapart is a reliable source (investigative journalism) in France. The text introduced in the article may need some improvements, or may be too long regarding the article length, but as far as I can see, it is an accurate summary of to the press article.

Best regards, Jules* (talk) 00:30, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Thanks Jules. I thought it was a bit WP:UNDUE too, esp. with the repeated IP additions, but if you're happy with it so am I. Thanks again. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:04, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
@Jules*: - what about an edit like this? Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:01, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
The first paragraph is a duplicate of information already added. The second paragraph is mostly true, but poorly sourced: only Mediapart is cited, but it would be needed to cite this press article about the fact her assistants tried to remove information from Wikipedia in French (some IP adresses used were from National Assembly, as said by the press article) about the fact she allegedly bit a taxi driver in 2017 (about this part, there are many sources: [1], [2], etc.). Regarding this part, Le Canard enchaîné (a quality investigative source) said Laeticia Avia admitted the biting to French police; so this information, credited to Le Canard enchaîné, can be written (as it is done on fr-wp), but writing "An earlier controversy reveals that she bit a taxi driver in 2017", as the IP did, is not OK, in order to respect WP:POV.
I hope it helps; sorry for my English :(. Kind regards, Jules* (talk) 11:16, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Yes, that helps - thank you. You're English is fine too! :) Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:27, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello. I don't want to start an edit war on the article, so I would like to know what's your explanation for not showing the medals on the medal record. You can choose to hide the medal record, but not showing the medals makes no sense to me. What's the point of a biography of an athlete if information about his achievements is entirely excluded from view? -- ThiagoSimoes (talk) 13:55, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi. In this case the list of medals is VERY long. Usually these are hidden with the hide/show template for athletes with dozens and dozens of medals. Compare with Laura Kenny, for example. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:58, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, I got it and I completely agree. The thing is: apparently there was a bug which completely hid the option "show" on the medal record, so the article appeared to me as if the entire medal record had been deleted. This is why I reverted your edit. Now the "show/hide" is displayed correctly for me, so I guess this confusion was caused by a temporary malfunction or something? Weird. In 13 years this has never happened to me before. Anyway, thank you for your explanation. -- ThiagoSimoes (talk) 14:03, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
@ThiagoSimoes: - I think it was due to the infobox having a parameter that's not being used. If you look at my last edit, I removed the "gender" field, as it's not actually in the Template:Infobox gymnast. Looks like that error was then over-riding any other functions, such as hide/show. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:06, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for pointing that out. I'll look into other biographies from now on and remove this parameter whenever it is present. -- ThiagoSimoes (talk) 14:15, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
No problem! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:16, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Bahram Tavakoli

This needs a new disambig page. The current guy (waterpolo player) occupying the page is far less known than the other guy (film director). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahram_Tavakoli_(Iranian_film_director) -- Peripatetic (talk) 13:10, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Yes, I see. You did a cut-and-paste move on the water polo player (which you should NOT do). My more pressing concerns are your new articles. The film director has no reliable sourcess, no categories, and has the wrong disambig (should simply be "film director"). Your other recently created articles are, to be blunt, terrible. Examples include Penniless (Iranian film), Season Salad (Iranian film), Water and Fire (Iranian film), etc, etc. Add to the fact that you have been on WP for fifteen years too! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:16, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
That's fine. I'm in the business of making stubs from less explored cultures, which in the fullness of time may or may not get expanded into longer articles. Some kind editor might even clean up the technical bits that I don't have time for! (Since it's happened to a few other of my stubs, I live in hope.) You may not approve, but I can live with that too. Thanks for your help with Tavakoli. Cheers. --Peripatetic (talk) 14:20, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Laurie Reed

Hi, I am trying to write the Wikipedia page for Laurie Reed but you keep taking it down because it's not sourced properly. Please can you tell me what I am doing wrong. He was my grandad and so I know all of what I have written from what he had told me. I even sourced two articles written about his life on the last edit. Joegp123 (talk) 17:42, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Joegp123. This was your last batch of edits. Every single statement you've added here needs to be verified with a source. So that first paragraph, for example, would need at least half-a-dozen sources (moving to Coulsdon, the school he attended, playing rugby, cricket, etc, breaking school records, career in banking, member of the scouts, etc, etc). Take a look at the current version and use the first reference in the article as a guide to formatting it. You might be best building the content in your sandbox first. And as you say you're related to the subject, please see WP:COI too. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:50, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Ref conversion

Hi Lugnuts. Should I convert my Sports Reference citations to Olympedia citations? They are essentially the same thing, but I would think it'd be more convenient to link to Olympedia. Lettlerhello 18:56, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

@Lettler: - all the Sports Reference links should now be fixed with the Web Archive update that was ran a few days ago. But on the other hand, Olympedia is being updated all the time, so I guess there's no harm in having both cites in the article. So if you have the time, then adding the Olympedia cite would be useful. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:00, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

There is no explanation in WP:MOSJR that talks about using capital letter in junior. And fyi, most of Norwegian published articles spelled as Hans Sperre jr. (without capital in junior. examples: [4], [5], [6]), same with Norway Badminton yearbook published by Badminton Europe (see: [7]) and Norway Wikipedia (see: [8]). User:Aamirinam

Hi Lugnuts. Since you appear to have already tried to help Aamirinam, maybe you could look at their recent edits to Inam-ur Rahman and perhaps can suggest a way to try and help them out a bit. They state that Rahman is their father in a Teahouse post and they probably mean well but just aren’t familiar with things like WP:COI, WP:BLP and Wikipedia editing in general. — Marchjuly (talk) 12:01, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: - thanks, I will take a look. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:13, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for that. Perhaps something other than the bland {{uw-coi}} I considered adding to their user talk might work better in this case. — Marchjuly (talk) 12:40, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Film "Tõde ja Õigus"

Why did you took out images and replaced a poster with a crappy version of if? The first time may have been an honest mistake, but you did it twice. Ivo (talk) 00:02, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi. You can see the rationale in the edit summary I provided - "upload new film posters over the existing file, per Template:Infobox_film#Image". Click the link, which I hyperlinked in the edit summary, and you'll see in the template instructions - "When replacing an existing image, upload the new image over the old image". Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:59, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
I saw that. I also assumed that you noticed, that all the new images are in Commons. Therefore, no, I'm not gonna upload the new image over the old. That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. That small image may just as well be deleted. Ivo (talk) 07:57, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
Do you have some problems with understanding? This suggestion there does not apply! We have that new file in Wikimedia Commons under CC BY-SA! There is absolutely no reason to have the crappy resolution file under fair use in en.wiki. There is also no reason to rewrite that en.wiki file, as that would be a duplicate and should be deleted! You are the one who is acting unreasonably here. How many times do I need to point that out? Ivo (talk) 08:23, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Please calm down. Again, please read Template:Infobox_film#Image. Simply upload your file over the existing filename. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:25, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
You are the one who started edit war and who I making ridiculous claims. So you are still suggesting that some template guidelines are more important than general Wikipedia rules?
What is the thing you have a problem with understanding? I assume you know what is Wikimedia Commons. You probably know that as well, if there is an image in Commons, then you do not upload the same image into some specific Wikipedia. This story there is on about how copyrighted images can be used in en.wiki that itself allows fair use stuff. This image in question is not some fair use image. That suggestion there has nothing to do with the question we are dealing with right now. Ivo (talk) 08:42, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
You seem to be the one who has a problem with understanding, specifically Template:Infobox_film#Image. This is a consensus. Do you have a policy and/or consensus that is different to this? Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:57, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Just for us to have the same understanding of how the story goes here. I ask on what is your reasoning for doing at what you did [twice]. You refer to that template page. I reply that I saw that, but the new images are in Commons [i.e. the central file repository for all Wikimedia Foundation projects], so that story on that template page is not relevant [so back to the original question: doing it once is just an honest mistake, doing it twice ... well there got to be some good reasoning]. As you didn't provide any good reasoning, then I put the images back. You revert. That is clearly getting out of hand so I point out [in case you really-really somehow missed that, even thou considering your long Wikipedia experience you should know and notice that stuff well] "that new file in Wikimedia Commons under CC BY-SA". But you still revert and insist that a copy of this file should be uploaded to en.wiki. I'm starting to feel that you are insane. It does not matter the slightest on what consensus there is about fair use images in en.wiki as we are not having one file in en.wiki and one in Wikimedia Commons so general policies apply. And the consensus there is that whenever possible images should be uploaded to Commons and not to local Wikipedias (and when images happen to be transferred to Commons from local Wikipedias, then they are usually deleted from Wikipedia so that only one copy needs to be maintained). If that would a fair use image, then yes: there should be only one version of that poster in en.wiki (an that should also have a low resolution -- not like the one in Commons at a moment). But we also have CC SA-BY image in Commons.
In reality, what should be done, is that this (your) image should be deleted from en.wiki and the file in Commons should be used in the article. Ivo (talk) 09:23, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
"I'm starting to feel that you are insane." - Come back when you've stopped with the personal attacks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:26, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
May you tell me why this MOS/Images lead-in at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Images#Image quality (quote: "Use the best quality images available. Poor-quality images—dark or blurry; showing the subject too small, hidden in clutter, or ambiguous; and so on—should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Think carefully about which images best illustrate the subject matter." My highlighting with underscoring line.), isn't applicable over the Template:Infobox film#Image-rule in this case ? Best regards Migrant (talk) 12:43, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Hi. Just upload the "better" image over the existing filename, per Template:Infobox_film#Image. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:45, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Hello again Lugnuts, you're not explaining to me why... hence the question in my last edit here ? Best regards Migrant (talk) 14:26, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
I have now asked about this at Wikipedia:Help desk in this thread: Wikipedia:Help desk#Which image to use : From local wiki (EN:WP) or from Commons when there is similar images, but diff. in quality since I'm not getting anywhere here. Best regards Migrant (talk) 16:05, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Coming from that thread, I gave my comments / analysis there (siding with User:Kruusamägi and User:Migrant). 84.250.17.211 (talk) 21:39, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

Word of the Day

"A statement that makes a claim that the same thing is true and that it is false at the same time", an oxymoron. For example, I am not back, but I am back. And I am VERY angry!

Anyway, we're interrupting our usual editing because there's been some kind of catastrophe downtown... Enjoy! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:54, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Where are you seeing that Another Round is showing in September 2020? I am not seeing it in any of the sources in the article. BOVINEBOY2008 13:27, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Pass. But it is scheduled to be shown at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival, hence the 2020 date. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:10, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Mohammad Mohasin (disambiguation)

What to do with this article Mohammad Mohasin (disambiguation). I think you are right person to ask. ~SS49~ {talk} 13:20, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

It should be speedy deleted. None of the references are actually about the subject, with most of them being generic links to the wheelchaircricketbd.org site. A total mess would be the polite summary of the page. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:25, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi Lugnuts! Per the source provided he has played 3 First class matches. But the Draft seems to be created by himself. Should it be accepted or not? ~SS49~ {talk} 10:58, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi @SS49:! A quick check, and I'd say no. They've put his DOB as 10 August 1998, but where did that come from? The Cricinfo profile does not have it. And more worryingly, his career was in the 1940s and 1950s, half a century or more before his claimed birth! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:21, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Franzen (cyclist)

Albums

Hi. Have you ever considered creating new stubs on albums? I keep finding tons missing. Denny Zeitlin for instance!† Encyclopædius 10:25, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi! I do dip into missing albums from time to time. One of my earliest stubs was this album, from May 2006! My most recent album creation was Gigaton. However, I find most bands I listen to have a fairly comprehensive discography on WP, with little if any gaps. Not really a big jazz fan though, and apart from a couple of Mile Davies albums in my record collection, that's about it. Never heard of Denny Zeitlin! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 10:51, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Ernestine Anderson too instance, a lot of the time when I'm looking for album info I have to keep going to discogs or all music!† Encyclopædius 11:00, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Jazz is an acquired taste I find. The more accomplished I've got as a musician and in understanding jazz the more I love it! † Encyclopædius 11:03, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Sorry for ‘killing’ your Belgian Olympians

Within 24 hours I found in the news the death of 2 Belgian Olympians, that wasn’t “known” already at Wikipedia. Both articles created by you. Emiel Sarens (didn’t have time to change the article at that time) and Ronny Van Sweevelt. Who will be next ;) SportsOlympic (talk) 18:38, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

No problem! I had that happen before - create a batch of articles, and a couple of them turn up on the recent deaths log. I can provide an alibi for the night in question, officer... :D Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:41, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

One of their two edits was clearly targeted at you--it suggested something about sexual preferences, haha. Anyway, they've been doing it for a while, often directed at Luk3. They are probably the same as User:Doctor Who Fanboy, who was blocked by Zzuuzz (who thought, perhaps, this was Evlekis); User:Humbugz was one as well. And User:Step 553, who was blocked by Glen. Zzuuzz, if you see this and you have a moment, can you check and maybe confirm what you thought earlier? You'll see I placed a rangeblock but I'm not sure if that's the best/only thing we can do--thanks! Drmies (talk) 15:11, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
Drmies, he sounds like a charmer. Actual original block for Step 553 was done by Stwalkerster, all I did was revoke TP after seeing the ongoing trolling. Happy to keep my eyes peeled for future socks of course. Glen 19:25, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
@Drmies: - thanks for that, I didn't spot that, haha! I'll have a look later. Hope you're safe and well where you are. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:19, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
I believe, as I did before and usually do unless corrected, that I was correct. In fact Drmies you've only reinforced that belief. About your other point, I believe this user has been blocked before (and will be again) - but have a look in the secret place. RBI, RBI, ... -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:44, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
Hmm zzuuzz that sounds juicy, but I'm not quite sure which one you mean. I did look at the SPI, where I saw Humbugz mentioned, and that Bbb was doing good work as well. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 18:07, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
You know, the secret thing. Ah never mind, if they need blocking further they'll probably get blocked further :) -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:16, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
