Orphaned non-free media (Image:Cotton hill.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Cotton hill.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:27, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I was curious: how come you removed] the tfd template from this? Was it an error? If you don't want it to be deleted feel free to voice your opinion in the WP:TFD discussion, but deletion tags should not be removed before the deletion discussion is over -- they're how other editors find out that the page is up for deletion. If I'm missing something, definitely let me know. Otherwise, can you put it back please? Thanks much. Peace, delldot ∇. 21:48, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Ah hah, I now see the new input to the discussion, so that makes more sense now. I still think you should have left removing the template to the closing admin though. Peace, delldot ∇. 21:50, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Hey, I wanted to apologize for this, I felt like a jerk after leaving this. I should have figured out what was going on before leaving the message, and I had no reason to gripe about removing the template, you did fine. Sorry about that, delldot ∇. 19:15, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

NWOBHM

NWOBHM is a term. The field is for genres only. Not terms. And NWOBHM is not a genre. Its article even says that. See the template rules for what is allowed in the box. The Real Libs-speak politely 22:38, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Template messages

Are you familiar with Wikipedia:Don't template the regulars? Generally speaking, established Wikipedia editors never like having generic template messages slapped on their talk pages. Instead please consider writing a personalized message to express yourself. (For example, I "hand wrote" this message rather than just dropping a {{Don't template the regulars}} template here.) --Kralizec! (talk) 18:19, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps you do not mind, but others obviously do, and as a result dismiss your input out of hand. Even the best suggestions fall of deaf ears when they are delivered in what is perceived as an un-friendly or condescending way. --Kralizec! (talk) 18:31, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

You got a thank you card!

genre removal

Hi LukeTheSpook, I guess you didn't hear, but genre-removal is what's going on today for musicians and albums. Take a look around at any band's page before sending me your warnings. Tim010987 (talk)

Genre removal

There was a long talk about this on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music#Time to remove genre section on info box?and reached a consensus to lock out genres since they result in huge edit wars frequently. The project was undertaken this morning. Tim010987 (talk) 00:50, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Don't waste your time hiding them

A bot is being fired up to rm the fields anyways. You might as well just delete them. It'll be a much greater help overall. Thanks! The Real Libs-speak politely 01:22, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Peer review limits

The guidelines for Wikipedia:Peer review ask that editors nominate no more than one article per day (and four total at any one time). While the rules say that one of the requests can be removed, I will let it slide since this is the first time. Take care, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:01, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

FAC withdrawn

I have withdrawn the FAC for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion per the WP:FAC instructions:

Nominators must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter and sources to deal with objections during the FAC process. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the article should consult regular editors of the article prior to nomination.

Please consider working an article up to status through peer review or good articles, and consulting with other contributors, prior to FAC submission. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:53, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Why did you just spin-off it off without getting a consensus? Alientraveller (talk) 21:29, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Who suggested it be split? Always discuss controversial ideas on talk pages: the article is a lot shorter once you ignore the kilobytes added by citations. Alientraveller (talk) 21:40, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
The article is only about 45kb large. What you see on the edit screen is a misconception, because it includes things that shouldn't be counted, like all of the coding that goes into citations.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 21:49, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Sum 41

Hi. Thanks for labeling my edits as good faith because that is honestly my motive. I will acknowledge that some labels were removed from the main artist page and until further clarification is put fourth (references etc), I made a mistake in having removed that info. However my edits that you undid on the individual album pages have no information removed from them with respects to the label entry; moreover they are more precise and consistent with most album entries here on wiki. However I won't undo your undo, I would prefer if you review my edits to get an understanding of the necessary changes I made on the album pages. Again this does not concern the main artist page. Many thanks.

Re: This

Why did you do that? SlayerXTT is a sockpuppet account which needs to be reverted. Please don't dictate to me what I need to learn, friend :-) It's quite rude of you. And, actually, SlayerXT was not blocked for having a bad username, he was blocked for sockpuppeting. Please check block logs more carefully next time. Also, SlayerXT is a mass-genre troll that many admins in the admin IRC channel are aware of and are repeatedly reverting :-) Feel free to show me evidence to the contrary, my young friend. Actually, he was editing with both accounts at the same time without declaring either which is a clear cut violation of WP:SOCK. ScarianCall me Pat! 18:58, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Marv Stewart

A tag has been placed on Marv Stewart requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Amused Repose Converse! 18:49, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Regarding [3]

Adding {{talkheader}} to every talkpage is not helpful. It is stated very clearly in bold text on the template page that it is not its intended purpose. If we wanted the template on every talkpage it could be added using an interface message in the site software rather than by adding a template to over 1 million individual talkpages. ~ User:Ameliorate! Talkheader BOTRequest

Hi there, please dont be too offended by MZM's comment at the Bot request page. He was just iterating the fact that it is the community consensus to NOT to add the {{Talkheader}} to all articles blindly. Believe me I have seen admins trying to do the same and faced quite an opposition. Attempts to do that have resulted in serious dramas earlier. It is now generally accpeted that the template shud be added only when needed , mostly on pages where there are heated discussions. If we wanted a default message at the top of every talk page we would just simply the mediawiki software to accomplish that.I see that you have got AWB access recently , therefore I am leaving this advise to use it thoughtfully. Nevertheless, Keep up your good contributions and enjoy your stay here in Wikipedia. -- Tinu Cherian - 02:36, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Luke,

Although not as big as Wikepedia I am the admin of a fan site for Thornley.

It is hopeful that we could add our link to your wikepedia page so that anyone looking for info on Thornley "might" come to our site. Withi the site we have all the up to date show info and music info and also a lot of networking amongst fellow fans.

We are asking that we please have the ability to continue to have the link to our site included within the external links of your page. We appreciate the service you offer to ALL and would like to further the promotion of the band we love.

Image copyright problem

Thanks for your uploads. You've indicated that the following images are being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why they meet Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page an image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
