I will not revert this article. The article on the actor was redirected to a film they appeared in because the actor failed WP:NACTOR. If you think there should be an article on the actor, and you have several acceptable sources, you can create a different article on the actor. I strongly suggest you use the WP:AFC process. Afsalaltai, I have reverted the article to the prior version on the cricket player. You cannot overwrite a article on one subject with a different article. If you believe the article on the actor would meet WP:NACTOR, you should create a new article with the WP:AFC process. You can copy the version on the actor from the edit history. Using AFC will cause it to be reviewed by an editor more familiar with the subject notability requirements. Also, If you are editing while not logged-in, you should not do that. Afsalaltai, Yes, you will be creating a draft which you can then submit for review. If it is accepted, the reviewer will put it into mainspace with the appropriate title (e.g. Chandan Madan (actor). This is the best way to create an article. MB 15:43, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

Afsalaltai, you can use WP:AFC and create a draft. That is not banned. If the article is successfully reviewed (you will have to provide sources with in-depth independent coverage), it can be accepted. Jsbillin, It really needs more and better sources. Can you find any more coverage in regional or national publications or books. Several of the ones in the article presently do not appear to be independent and should be removed. Jsbillin, Citations should go inline as refs at the end of sentences or paragraphs. These can be used where appropriate to cite parts of the existing article. If some of these refs are about things not already discussed, the article should be expanded. The better shape it is in when a reviewer gets to it, the more likely it is to pass. Drmies, well I found the missing refs in old versions and put them back (isn't there a bot that would have done that anyway). As long as the ref names didn't change at sometime, that should be good. I have no connection to this article, I just found it in a maint category and fixed the image syntax. When doing that, I noticed all the EL's and removed them. But I didn't watchlist this one to see if they came back or look into any possible COI, I must have been rushed that day. I'm not planning to do any more here. MB 04:00, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

Selas97, The infobox was removed by mistake, I have restored it. As said in the edit summary, I meant to remove just the hatnote because DMA does NOT redirect to the article and no one will wind up there by entering that term so they do not need to be directed elsewhere. 162 etc., Because after you added the hatnotes, the article was in Category:Missing redirects which means a hatnote did not actually redirect to the article. On closer inspection, Fish hawk does redirect, but not Fish Hawk that you added. I've fixed it now. MB 00:34, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Schools at War

Happens that i'm just developing about a Two-room school, the Draft:Daniels School in Weld County, Colorado, whose students participated in the "Jeep Campaign" within the U.S. Treasury's Schools at War (currently a redlink) program. See Draft:Schools at War. Seems like a great DYK topic, with a section about the Jeep campaign and/or a split-out article about that. The Daniels School's campaign was for $900 for a jeep, presumably before price got raised to $1,150 in the poster. I don't currently have jstor access, but it's a good excuse to contact someone I know to try to get it, will try in the next day or two. This is another gap worth filling, also comes up from working on a Colorado NRHP, Draft:Land Utilization Program Headquarters, where i find I can't easily explain what should exist in a main article on the topic. Land Utilization Program is currently a redlink. It is mentioned and there are multiple sources at National Resources Board of 1934. LemonSlushie, that template is used on current events like an airplane crash where the article is being updated frequently as new information becomes available (e.g. latest news reports). It sounds like you just needed a standard update tag - which I have just added. Also, these kinds of template take a date in the format |date=May 2021. MB 22:00, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

Biological organisation

Hi there. I saw that you reverted my changing of the spelling in biological organisation article, citing MOS:RETAIN and broken direct hatnotes. I concede the hatnotes. However, the title of the article itself is written in British English and the language banner on the article's talk page states that British English is established variety for that article. Thus, going by MOS:RETAIN, British English should be language variety used in that article. Just to be clear, I myself use US English and so this has nothing to do with my personal preference. Danielkueh, I was just cleaning out the broken redirects category and probably should have looked at this one more closely. It seemed that the US spelling had been there for years. Alt tag became less specific for Bear Gulch Reservoir

Hi I'm wondering why you removed the more specific wording to reference a reservoir being at the location in the alt text for Bear Gulch Reservoir as seen [1]. It would seem to be more useful to explicitly state especially for screenreader users and those not loading the images a more specific context of the image such as "Location of Bear Gulch Reservoir in California." rather than removing the reference to the infobox object being located in the image. The alt text and caption should be able to stand independent of the context of the infobox title due to these being elements to help when the image is not loaded or using accessibility tools. The map had no caption, so I added one. This is a very standard caption used on thousands of article. The title of the article includes "Reservoir", as well as the name at the top of the infobox. So restating that it is a reservoir again in the caption is redundant. Infoboxes are supposed to convey important information "at a glance", they should never repeat things unnecessarily. I removed it from the alt_map_caption for the same reason. Wouldn't a screenreader already have read the title of the article and then repeated it when reading the name at the first line of the infobox? MB 02:15, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

Nationality in Infobox

Why did you call it redundant? A lot of other YouTuber personalities have it listed as well; the whole point of a infobox is to give a quick glance of specific items otherwise all of it is redundant. Washuotaku, this is explained in WP:INFONAT. Nationality is used when it is different than the country of birth. There is no need to say that someone born in California is an American. MB 23:48, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Follow-up, so for example The Anime Man has both Austrailia and Japan as Nationality, but reading the WP:INFONAT, the Citizenship field should be used instead because he's dual-citizen? I am also working on Draft:Gigguk and he was born in England, but wouldn't I use British as nationality because it is not straight forward? Washuotaku, The Anime Man looks correct. Citizenship and Nationality are usually the same, so just use Nationality, except in rare cases when someone is a national but not a citizen (and this would need to be explained in the article). For Draft:Gigguk, I would not include nationality at all because it still corresponds to birth_place. He was born in England and his nationality is English/British/UK. There really isn't consensus to say birthplace is "England", or "England, UK". I would leave the birth_place as England and remove nationality to keep the infobox to the most important things. Doncram, well the numbers are in. I'm a bit disappointed, it got just over 5,000 views which is good, but I was expecting more. It didn't help that it ran 8pm/5pm to 8am/5am Eastern/Pacific instead of during the day. See my list of most viewed - Baker City Hotel had over 3x (in 24 hours) but doesn't strike me as particularly interesting. You just never can predict. Lead images

I noticed that you removed the composer's image from all of Daron Hagen's operas with the edit summary, "rmv images not of subject from infobox" and "MOS:LEADIMAGE, image should be of the subject - a poster or advertisement of the opera, not the composer". 1) MOS:LEADIMAGE does not prescribe a lead image in the detail you assert ("poster or advertisement of the opera"). 2) There are hundreds of opera articles that show the composer's image, which is fully in line with MOS:LEAD. 3) I've been editing opera articles here for 15 years, and I've never seen anyone proposing a guideline similar to your edit summary, nor have I ever encountered an editor who removed a composer's image from an opera article. I suggest you restore the image in all those instances where you removed them from opera pages. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 00:54, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

If there are other article on operas with images of the composer then they should be removed also. Operas are no different that other works of art, e.g. TV shows, books, movies, sculptures, paintings, etc. I have never seen one of this with an image of any person associated with the work. They commonly contain an image of a logo, book cover, title card, the artwork itself, etc. MOS:LEADIMAGE says the images should "representations of the topic". Wikilahara, I placed the COI tag because you have made no other edits to other articles and because some of the article sounds promotional. These are common indications that the article was written by someone with a COI who is trying to promote someone or something. To improve the article, you should add citations to every paragraph that has none. And more importantly, you should remove everything that is not purely neutral/factual. Things like "He gained a wealth of experience and exposure" should not be written in Wikipedia's voice. That sounds like it was written by someone trying to promote this person. User of strikethrough on Candidates of the 44th Canadian federal election

From what I read on the WP:NOSTRIKE template page, the use of the template may be incorrect in this case. Strikethrough doesn't fall under WP:NOSTRIKE and is being used on the page for intuitive markup of withdrawn or rejected candidates/contestants. G. Timothy Walton, I don't follow your comment. WP:NOSTRIKE is a guideline, part of the MOS. It specifically says Since strikethrough is normally ignored by screen readers, its rare use in articles (e.g., to show changes in a textual analysis) will cause accessibility problems and outright confusion if it is the only indication used .

Since it is ignored by screenreaders, the text will be read like normal text and the meaning will not be conveyed. Strikethrough does fall under WP:NOSTRIKE, that is exactly what it is about. It should not be used. MB 20:14, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

External links removed on Miccosukee Land Co-op

Hi MB, I had an observation about the Miccosukee Land Co-op. You simply removed the external links, but it looks like an inexperienced editor was putting those in as an attempt at citations. Would it have not been better to convert them to footnotes, especially since inline footnotes were identified as an issue by the {{No footnotes}} hatnote? I can care for retrofitting the deleted external links as ref/citations, but going forward, please consider converting such external links to footnotes where appropriate. Tony1, I was drawn to the article because the errant question-mark symbol was causing problems. I reverted the edit primarily because of that. I don't have a strong opinion on usage of |era=. The template says:" , and gives one example of "|era = New Imperialism/WWI". I'm not sure why a century might not be the best "era" in some cases. It appears in the infobox after the heading: "Historical era:" and seems appropriate in this article. I you leave it blank, the ibox heading becomes "History" which looks fine too. This template is quite convoluted and poorly documents. I don't see why you say century is not an era; an era is some period of time which could be a century. And I did not link it. Sawol (talk · contribs), I was fixing a incorrect link in Korean Series Most Valuable Player Award. This article says he was the MVP and played on the Haitai Tigers which is now the Kia Tigers. Since there is no article on the player, I redirected this link to the his team. His name is listed there in the middle of the history section.

A humble request for a page rename

Hello. I would sincerely request you to move a page tilt. It is "Consulate General of Russia in Chennai". I want to get it renamed it to "Consulate General of Russia, Chennai. (that is, replace the "Russia in Chennai" to "Russia, Chennai". I tried doing it, but the device broke down while the moving. Please do this small taks.

Re your edit note at Bullet (typography), am I correct to assume that {{code}} has the same undesirable effect as {{char}}? John Maynard Friedman, I would expect so. I agree that "framing" is helpful. I think just using {{hatnote}} is the best way to handle this since this is such a rare situation. The {{redirect}} template could be coded to recognize this special case, but I don't think it makes sense to do that for such a small "edge case" on a template used so frequently. New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

Hello MB,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Your mfd noms

Look I get that mfd is a bit of a confusing place for those who are new. The PAGs that govern mfd are in many ways different from afd, and somewhat more esoteric. It's clear to me that you're acting in good faith, but abandoned draft is not on it's own a reason for deletion at mfd see WP:STALEDRAFT. That means that all of your noms are arguably eligible for speedy keep under WP:SK#1; for that reason I suggest you withdraw them all to save the time of your fellow contributors. As a cautionary note, to this point the level of disruption is relatively minor, but if you repeat this pattern of behaviour you will eventually find yourself explaining things to an exasperated crowd at ANI, not exactly a pleasant experience. I would also suggest seeking guidance from some of the mfd regulars if your interested in expanding your participation in that area, and we could definitely use the help. I'm around somewhat irregularly, and this is a shared IP anyway (albeit one that's somewhat unlikely to be used by other fluent speakers of english), so while I can provide a bit of assistance, I think you're best seeking guidance from a more active contributor if interested. Wikisian, now I see the confusion. Pre-Release exists. But what you put in the hatnote was Pre-release (lower case "r"). The search box doesn't make a distinction, but the hatnote error checking code does. The hatnote will work if you put it back with Pre-Release. MB 04:19, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean "the hatnote will work if..." The purpose of the hatnote is to inform the reader about why they might have landed on a page they didn't expect, and offer a link to what they might be looking for. The hatnote I included does that. As you admit, Wikipedia search automatically sends uncapitalized terms to their capitalized counterparts, so the redirect exists, and anyone who searches for the term "pre-release" (regardless of capitalization) ends up at the Motograter article. Again, feel free to check this. I find it odd you would go so far as to continuously undo constructive edits without even checking them. If you truly think it's "unconstructive" to disambiguate a term mostly used in computing from an obscure redirect to a heavy metal band due to an even more obscure EP they made, then I'll happily change the redirect to the software release cycle article, which is where it is probably most appropriate anyway. --Wikisian (talk) 05:32, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

Wikisian, What I meant by "the hatnote will work if..." is that the hatnote will not cause the article to be listed in Category:Missing redirects if it contains the actual redirect Pre-Release instead of Pre-release. Pre-release does NOT exist, that it why it is a redlink here. You seem to be missing this. The search box does get you there anyway, but Pre-release does not exist, therefore the hatnote software says there is a problem. I was not making any evaluation on your choice of a target.
