Miranda Brawn

Hello, you have been contributing to this article a couple of times too. It has been marked as "written like an advertisement". I asked the user who placed the tag what is the problem and following their response, I removed the part they found questionable. I started a conversation on the article's talk page and asked the community what else should I modify to improve the article. More than a month has gone by, but no response arrived. I take it as there are no more complaints. Just wanted to ask you (as someone who showed interest in the article), that what do you think, should I, or when should I remove the tags? Episcopal church in Bismarck

I don’t live in Bismarck and am not planning to go there in the next few weeks, but I could certainly try to get a picture for Wikipedia the next time I do have a reason to be in Bismarck. I’m sure there are people who do live in Bismarck who could take a picture more quickly. Try contacting the high schools and the colleges and ask if one of the history teachers would solicit help on your project. You might also see if a church member would email you a picture to use. Greetings, thanks for your work….regarding the sinking of the HMS Broadwater, Oct 18 1941 - the chart for that last mission shows it ending ending Oct 16 …is that mission log approximate and need to be extended to the18th? If not do you mind adding a note explain the conditions on Oct 18? Like was U101 on its way back to base and just happened to encounter Broadwater a few hundred miles south of Ireland? (If such arcania is knowable….)

I assume this is about German submarine U-101 (1940). I only did some minor cleanup without altering the content. I don't see any mission log in the article. There is a chart that shows the Broadwater was sunk on 18 Oct and the prose says the final patrol ended on 16 Nov. Changes would need to be supported with a WP:RS, if you find one you can make an WP:EDITREQUEST on the article TP. MB 16:06, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

RosePhilipps, Anything that includes "Safran continues to produce the mega-successful..." is obviously promotional and likely written by someone with a Conflict of Interest that should not be editing the article. Since you have said you were requested by him to make changes to the article, then you have a COI. Articles must be written neutrally, preferable only by editors that have no connection to the subject and who are summarizing information published in Reliable Sources. If you wish to suggest changes to the article, you should become familiar with these policies and then make edit requests on the Talk Page of the article. MB 23:41, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

Careful with find-and-replace, please

Please be careful with find-and-replace; there are a few articles where you intended to replace the obsolete "athletics" parameter of the university infobox with the current parameter name but you also replaced every other instance of the word "athletics" throughout the article e.g., [1]. MB, Most of my edits were to that article because I was creating that page. It didn't existed before and that gave me a chance to try and create autobiographic article which I haven't had a chance to do so since 2009. And I was using the article about PewdiePie, another youtuber, as reference, and that article had his social media information links so i followed suit.

Albert L. Harris and Municipal Architect term

I'm glad you invited me to Talk:Albert L. Harris and that you've developed the article so well.

A possible tangent could be to create an article specifically about the office of the Municipal Architect, perhaps at Municipal Architect (Washington, D.C.), akin to Office of the Supervising Architect for the U.S. Treasury (although the latter is an office of national scale). Or to revise current Council architect article (to which Municipal architect is a redirect) to allow for some non-British usage of the term. Glenn Dale Hospital article now includes four Municipal Architect names: Albert L. Harris; Nathan C. Wyeth; Lawrence P. Johnston; Merrel C. Coe from the NRHP registration document for it, and from usage here of "Lawrence P. Johnston rather than "Lawrence Johnson".

Coordinate precision

Regarding your edit of Khlong Bang Luang Artist House which reduced 6 digits to 4 digit precision, could you please point me to the commonly accepted precision level for urban coordinates? Google map provides 15 digits which is excessive. I couldn't find a specific guideline so I followed the example in Template:Coord#Examples and used 6 digits for high precision. I've tried 4 and 5 digits before and in some cases the coord points to a different building. Aithus (talk) 07:12, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

Aithus, See WP:OPCOORD. Four-digit coords are usually the maximum needed except for small objects at certain latitudes, where five-digits may be needed. I have used five-digits a few times for a statue or monument, but generally four-digits for a building. If I click on the four-digit coord in Khlong Bang Luang Artist House, I see the pointer on the correct building (but not in the exact center). I can't explain why 4 or 5 was not enough for some places. MB 15:53, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

MB, Thanks for that guideline. I see now that 4-digit precision is usually enough (at most 5m off from rounding), so I will follow it. Previous cases where I found 4-digit not enough was when I wanted to use the same location as pinned and reviewed (plus photos) by other people on Google Map but the pin is off-center, sometimes on the edge. Rounding error can then shift the location to adjacent building. In the future I'll pick coord near the center or main point of interest, then. Aithus (talk) 16:18, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

First Church of Christ, Scientist (Seattle)

I see that you reverted my changes which I understand, recognizing that you are preserving a page about a landmark, which I fully support. The issue I was trying to address is that the title, First Church of Christ, Scientist (Seattle) refers to a building that was formerly the First Church of Christ, Scientist (Seattle). There is also a First Church of Christ, Scientist, Seattle that is currently holding services and operates under the legal name of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Seattle. My feeling is that it is not entirely accurate to call this page First Church of Christ, Scientist (Seattle). I feel that there could be better differentiation between the building which used to house the church but is now condominiums, and the Church itself which continues in another location. Aquietmorning, WP has articles on WP:Notable subjects. If the current church is notable (as meant here), there could be a new article. Since there can't be two articles with the same title, that could be resolved in several ways. I would recommend the WP:AFC process. If it doesn't qualify as notable, then you could add a section in the current article saying the church is holding services in a different location. Why did you revert my Map edition on Federal University of Technology – Paraná?

Well, you reverted my good faith edit on the accurate location of this college, the problem is that the current coordinates point to an unrelated college (which I happen to know very well) located 2276 km (or 1414 miles) away from the actual college that is the focus of the article, the correct coordinates can be found on Federal University of Technology – Paraná's item on Wikidata Bastewasket (talk) 02:15, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

Fort Granby

Hi MB, you reverted my disambig with the above title. The redirect does not link to an article by the title of "Fort Granby", it redirects to an article about a town that at one time contained a Fort Granby. The redirect page also does not mention the other Fort Granby, the one in Tobago. I can't see how reverting my page improves the situation for some reader, perhaps a visitor to Tobago, looking for Fort Granby. Now I have to create a stub article with the title. OK. Acad Ronin, That is exactly the purpose of redirects, to direct readers to where the subject is covered, when there is no other article on the subject. Fort Granby, your dab page, was invalid because a dab must distinguish multiple topics and link to them per MOS:DABBLUE. Dab pages do not mention subjects that are not covered in WP somewhere. You have now changed the redirect into an article on the place in Tobago, which is fine. But there were incoming links to Fort Granby that are meant to link to the place in S.C. I have created Fort Granby, South Carolina, and added a WP:HATNOTE to your article Please fix the incoming links by changing to Fort Granby, South Carolina where appropriate. Thanks. East Asiatic Company => Santa Fe Group => EAC Invest

You would be much more useful to the objective of having an accurate reference if you researched news on a subject instead of destroying accurate information. The Santa Fe Group no longer exists there are now two separate firms under different ownership one being EAC Invest A/S the successor to the East Asiatic Company the other being Santa Fe Relocation which is part of Proventus. The two articles that should still be up are in bold. RichardBond, it appeared that you copied information from one article and pasted it into a different article. That is entirely improper as it does not preserve the attribution of those who wrote the original article. If an article such as East Asiatic Company is out-of-date, it should be updated. If the company has changed its name to EAC Invest A/S, the the name of the article can be changed by a WP:MOVE. How do you change the heading without moving the text? This should be on a page with the heading EAC Invest A/S not Santa Fe Group. RichardBond, you didn't do it correctly because you had Wikipedia: in front of the new name. It has all been fixed now. I updated the hatnote with both former names and put them into the infobox. The "History" section currently ends with "In November 2019, the Santa Fe Group became EAC Invest." The more recent events should be added (with references). I will leave that to you. Sajaypal007 Because it is confusing. The article is about a person and the image should be of the person. See MOS:LEADIMAGE where it says It is common for an article's lead or infobox to carry a representative image—such as of a person or place, a book or album cover—to give readers visual confirmation that they've arrived at the right page. Spacing RfC

Hello MB,

Thank you for your comment on the spacing RfC that I posted. I am new to these RfC, so I apologize in advance for my long winded proposal. If you would by any chance reconsider your support for this, I would greatly appreciate it. I have found it to be a highly rewarding (to me at least!) editing task to go through towns and city articles especially, and to locate typos and other minor things in need of fixing. Then I discovered, while on an article with a great deal of text, that it is much easier for me to spot such issues if I first comb over the article and add a single space beneath each header (this adds nothing in terms of change to the "render" I believe it is called), or to anything other than our shared "back end" in the source editor, but it makes it much more accessible for me. If it is not too much of a bother, and really just a preference, I'd ask you to kindly reconsider. Perhaps if this is not made a "requirement" or "mandate", but rather just a suggestion, we might more easily find consensus? I am open to either. I just want to be able to make these spacing adds, without risk of being reverted. Thank you very much for reading my comment, and if this does not give you cause to reconsider, that is fine too. ElKevbo, I am being careful, but that does not mean I will ever be perfect. I've updated over a thousand university articles to use the new sports and affiliation parameters. If there were a couple of errors, I don't think that is out of line. I look at Category:Pages using infobox university with unknown parameters every day and know for certain that you have introduced at least a half-dozen infobox errors yourself in the last six months or so after making changes. Knowing they were just honest mistakes, I have just fixed them and moved on. I don't think my error rate is worse than yours. MB 00:35, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

I accidentally published the NASCAR Truck Series race at Sonoma article before I was ready to. I was editing the edit summary in the middle of my edit and accidentally hit "publish" when I wasn't finished with my edit. I hadn't put any sources in it yet so that's why there wasn't any and then why you moved it to be a draft. I created the page again but had thought that I had made my second edit to that article when I actually recreated the article as you had already moved it to draftspace. (I thought I'd get an edit conflict where I'd be able to see that you moved it to Draft:NASCAR Truck Series race at Sonoma but I didn't). So with that being said, can you delete the draft article?

Alternatively, before a page move, you could change all of the page redirects to point to the new location. theleekycauldron, I'm getting confused here. Where did you get "recruited by the United States"? The original hook said "recruited to the United States", which certainly does imply the Camel Corps operated in the U.S. Your last hook does not seem grammatically correct - "recruited to the USCC". He was recruited to the US, or by the USCC, but not to the USCC. I still don't see any improvement over the original hook. You seem to trying very hard to eliminate "United States" twice. I don't see a problem there because the first is referring to the location/country and the second is the name of a formal unit/branch. But if you really can't live with that, how about just abbreviating the second usage:

theleekycauldron, "to" is common preposition. According to this, "to/into" follows "recruited" about 20% of the time, the same percentage as "by". I think it is perfectly clear, that he was recruited to tend camels in the U.S. As I said before, the U.S. Camel Corps does not imply it was in the U.S. as the U.S. military is well known to have operated worldwide for a very long time. Gpkp, I saw that one image was replaced with lower quality portrait and restored the better image. If you were removing it due to licensing, it was not clear from your edit summary. I still don't understand what "(+Inf.details)" means. It does appear that the image does not meet the requirements for fair-use as alternatives are available. Usually what I've come across is, unused non-free files are not tagged for deletion by users, but once as soon as they are found as unused they are automatically tagged for deletion by bots within few hours.   I have nominated the image for deletion because it is not fair-use - that is clearer than just not using it and waiting for a bot to tag it as unused - this will establish that it does not meet the criteria for fair user if it is uploaded again. Th78blue, that list of claimed rationale appears to be mostly WP:ORIGINAL RESEARCH. People often don't want prisons or garbage dumps near their homes, but NRHP listing often means there is pride in a property and it is well maintained. That list implies an objection to historic listing because a property is "preserved" and therefore not updated. If this has actually happened somewhere, it is probably quite rare and not particularly relevant to mention in NRHP. MB 17:01, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Fix infobox image syntax edits

Hi. From what I come across, it seems that more often than not bad infobox image syntax is a result of inexperienced editors inserting copyvio images which then have to be deleted. Sometimes, they replaced validly licensed images, and when the de-linker bot removes the copyvio, no one remembers to restore the previous image, and the article is left without one. (And when one attempts to, the Undo function is blocked by your subsequent edits, so it has to be done manually.) What I'm asking is, would it be feasible to add a brief check to your workflow, to see if recently inserted images with bad infobox syntax are likely copyvios, and if so simply revert the addition (and maybe tag the images for deletion) instead? --Paul_012 (talk) 08:19, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

Paul_012, I have thought about this in the past. There are currently around 200 pages that need to be fixed. From watching the category, I know there are a few other editors that work on these at times, but lately I think I have been doing most and I've been too busy recently to keep it clear daily. There is no way I can evaluate every image to determined it is likely to be deleted. Sometimes, one is quite obviously a copyvio and I do revert and nominate the new image for deletion. But most times, I just fix the syntax and hope that if it is deleted later, another page watcher who knows about the article will restore the prior image. I'm not sure that the majority of images with bad syntax are copyvios, but certainly some are (25%, 50%, who knows?). I doesn't seem like it would be that hard for the bot to do this, i.e. when removing a link to a deleted image, search the history for the insertion and if it replaced another image, restore that image. Maybe this isn't so easy - but we could ask anyway. MB 20:16, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

I'm not quite hopeful about requesting a new feature for the CommonsDelinker bot. Mgreason, I'm not sure why you think I would have "known you were working on the page". WP:Edit Conflicts are a consequence of the Wikimedia software. There were errors in the article and I fixed them. You can advertise you are actively working on an article by temporarily adding the {{in use}} template, but you had not done that.
