Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Mare Marcela. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Thomas Jenuwein, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Marquardtika (talk) 18:32, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Hello Marquardtika.

The role of the edits I made is to summarize, inform and reference and not at all to promote someone or sell something. The added edits are resourced, independent and reliable (i.e. academic journals, other Wikipedia links, television broadcast, etc.) I am not paid for it, neither received any compensation, therefore I consider that there is no conflict of interest. I kindly ask you to remove the template that has been placed on top of the page. I would be grateful for any suggestions that could help me improve and make accurate contributions.

Thank you, Mare Marcela (talk) 13:52, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The issue is that you said here that you are Prof. Thomas Jenuwein's assistant. Per our WP:COI guidelines you are strongly advised against directly editing the article because of your relationship with the article subject. You are instead advised to post any suggested edits on the article's talk page for discussion--other editors can implement the edits if they agree that they are helpful. The nature and tone of some of the edits you've made to the article is promotional, for example "The impact of the discovery of the first KMT and its associated functions has been so broad that it stimulated novel lines of research spanning nearly all aspects of chromatin biology and epigenetic control for both basic and applied questions..." (with a citation to an article by Jenuwein). And then there is the "Honors and awards" section, which doesn't have any sources. Marquardtika (talk) 17:48, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
