Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), such as at Wikipedia:Teahouse, please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:25, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help, I'll try that now. --MarkSinclairUnit (talk) 12:39, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disclosure of employment

[edit]
Information icon

Hello MarkSinclairUnit. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, such as the edit you made to Draft:Unit Editions, and that you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to Black hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:MarkSinclairUnit. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=MarkSinclairUnit|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, please do not edit further until you answer this message. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:26, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the help with this. I thought that when I signed up I had disclosed my employment (perhaps I just constructed the user name to reference it, I can't recall). Either way, if there's somewhere I can divulge this more clearly, that would be good. As I work for the company I am writing the entry about (though not being paid directly to write the text), how do I best declare that, and is it still possible to submit the entry for consideration again? The text is neutral, plus supported by citations (and I have more of these to add in). Thanks again. Mark --MarkSinclairUnit (talk) 12:46, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Paid shows how. On your User page, replace the COI User box with a PAID User box. As noted above, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from creating or editing articles. I suggest you create the PAID on your User page and add a comment to that effect on the Talk page of the draft. Then, try to improve the draft and resubmit via Articles for Creation. It may still be rejected for not meeting Wikipedia's standards for notability. David notMD (talk) 16:26, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

MarkSinclairUnit (talk) 17:20, 9 January 2019 (UTC) I have replaced the COI box with a PAID one.[reply]
