Information icon Hi Martinplaut! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Copying[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; however, please remember the essential rule of respecting copyrights. Edits to Wikipedia, such as your edit to the page 4 November Northern Command attacks, may not contain material from copyrighted sources unless used with permission. It is almost never okay to copy extensive text out of a book or website and paste it into a Wikipedia article with little or no alteration, though you can clearly and briefly quote copyrighted text in the right circumstances. Content that does not comply with this legal rule must be removed. For more information on this, see:

If you still have questions, there is the Teahouse, or you can click here to ask a question on your talk page and someone will be along to answer it shortly. As you get started, you may find the pages below to be helpful.

I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Again, welcome! Platonk (talk) 22:15, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

hi @Martinplaut: Just to clarify: it could reasonably be argued that there was legally no copyright violation in this edit by you, since quotation marks were used, and the quote is only a small part of the original source text. However, within Wikipedia articles, such long quotes usually don't make sense. A summary of the key information in a source makes more sense. You can see here how I reworked the information in the source you provided in a way that seems more appropriate for that particular encyclopedia article. The edit summary includes a few brief explanations and a link to one Wikipedia style guideline. By the time you read this message, my edit may have been further improved upon, of course.
