Intro to wikipedia[edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!
Jrdioko

P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).

Welcome. Great nick. I assume your main purpose is to flip out and kill people, possibly also to wail on your guitar, but I hope you will also write some good articles.

P.S. Don't kill me.

Glasgow[edit]

Work in progress[edit]

Hi. All Wikipedia articles are "works in progress". You shouldn't explcitly say "this article is work in progress" a stub notice is sufficient, nor should articles appear to look unfinished by having empty sections and italic comments. If you wish to leave comments regarding future additions to an article, you can either discuss it in the talk page or add HTML comments to an article that can be seen by an editor but not someome who has just causally browsed in. Mintguy (T) 17:04, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Football culture[edit]

Hi. I'm sure listing the 10 points of fair play is perfectly okay. By all means make people who might be interested in the football culture page aware of it by bringing it up on talk:football (soccer). You might also want to ask those who have contributed to pages like football chant to have a look at the article. You can also mention it on the Village Pump and there is also a Wikipedia:Peer review page where you can make the same request. I'm trying to sort out the other issue. Thanks. Mintguy (T) 09:21, 25 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Tugay[edit]

Thank you very much for starting the article on Tugay. That was going to be one of the trickier ones on my tasklist. I just have to add the Naming:Technical Limitations tag and the article is set for now. Bobo192 22:34, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Good work on this article. I have deleted the copyvio and replaced it with your version. - SimonP 21:59, Feb 11, 2005 (UTC)

Hello. Unless I'm mistaken, you pasted the contents to Charles Edward Trevelyan. Please use the Move Page function, which keeps the Page History straight.

Charles Matthews 14:47, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I have just reverted your changes again to the AJAX article. The source of the term is written further down, and I don't believe that it is so important that it be described before the actual definition of tht term in the very first line. With regard to the supposed controversy some cites would be nice, and it could be in its own section with some substance, but I really believe the introductory paragraphs should be reserved for defining the actual term. --kjd 12:18, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments on the formations. Of course I do plan to tackle the classic formations, I just wanted to post some graphics before going on to see how they looked :D I did have some troubles with the layout, though, so I had to use html tables...

I used M$ Power Point to draw the images :D It could have been any vector program, such as Corel Draw, but in my work I found out that for simple graphics PowerPoint is more than enough. I also made a contribution to the FC Barcelona page regarding the most common formation during 2005. If you would like something like that for your favorite team, please let me know (names & formation) and I will more than happily draw it. --User:Threner 12;56 am, 25 May 2005 (CT)

CAF or African Champions League?[edit]

Hi, I'm putting together pages about World Cup 2010 and I created CAF Champions League. On the CAFOnline external site I saw no use of the phrase 'African Champions League,' nor at SAFA. Do you suppose the page should be concatenated to 'CAF Champions League'? Nice job on Al-Ahly. I think I created Egypt FA a few weeks ago, FYI.--McDogm 19:18, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what the MTN is; I just took a list of teams and that was included; I was going to delete it anyway because I couldn't easily find it on the CAF site. If its important someone will add it to the Wiki page later on.--McDogm 21:09, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OH, its Mobile Telephone Network in ZA. It was very easy to google.--McDogm 21:12, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That has to be the worst named category I've ever seen :( What about Category:Women's football (soccer) clubs?

Hi ninja, could you specify from which work this character comes from? It would be helpful to mention the manga or anime title, for example, since various works often come up with their own "Japanese mythology" independently. —Tokek 3 July 2005 22:16 (UTC)

According to a Japanese dictionary, akuma is a word that can refer to Mara, a character in Buddhism from India, or Satan, a character in Christianity and Judaism from the Middle East, and not a character from a mythology originating in Japan. You've added the following description: "It has an enormous flaming head with eyes like coals. It flies through the air brandishing a sword. Even the sight of an akuma is said to bring bad luck" which you introduced during the process of moving content from one page to another. It did not exist in the main akuma page. From what work did you get this description? —Tokek 4 July 2005 06:23 (UTC)

Major football rivalries[edit]

You're probably right. One of us should just delete that section.

Besides that article, I'd like to know your opinion on the discussion at Talk:C.D. Chivas USA. It turns out that the couple of editors who do most of the editing on MLS aritcles have decided between themselves, with no publicity or discussion with other Wikipedia editors, that ALL American citizens in the MLS should have names without diacritics. This even includes those who were born in Mexico (e.g. Aarón López), but who now have US citizenship. BlankVerse 04:02, 28 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I was in the middle of merging the info from Marco Andrè Kpolo Zoro to Marco Zoro when you merged it the opposite way. I think we should keep the information at Marco Zoro due to the shorter and more practical title. Punkmorten 21:28, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Tego_Calderón.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tego_Calderón.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Yankee Group, by 216.119.255.145 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Yankee Group is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Yankee Group, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Yankee Group itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:51, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article War of the Grail, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Article for Speedy Deletion[edit]

Copyright problems[edit]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Irish stew, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://homecooking.about.com/od/foodhistory/a/irishstewhistry.htm. As a copyright violation, Irish stew appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Irish stew has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Irish stew and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Irish stew with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Irish stew.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you.

I understand the original article had no such issues, however it may be a bit too brief under today's guidelines. I have put the notice of SD on your page as a courtesy. Erick880 (talk) 21:06, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Elmo (Electronic Mail Operator), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Elmo (Electronic Mail Operator). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Major football rivalries. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Major football rivalries. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:07, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Aureliano Cândido Tavares Bastos has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no reliable references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - TheMagnificentist 17:23, 23 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Howrah[edit]

Why did u change total area of Howrah City despite the two citations given in area total parameter? Do u have any proof? Dont know Howrah Corporation & Bally Municipality are merged now? Previously Howrah Corporation contained 50 wards and so the area was 51.74 sq km (check reference no 2). Bally Municipality's area was 11.81 sq km (check reference no 3). Add these two figures and u will find the total area of Howrah City (a part of Kolkata Metropolitan area / Greater Kolkata ) or Howrah Corporation (now). Soumo Dutt 17:34, 20 July 2019 (UTC)

Appreciate your busy. I was only half joking about Rail Museum, Howrah and the thanks ... it was to a degree about a misunderstanding between Serial Number 54129, Howrah, Eastern Rail Services. I must own up to have been neither to Howrah or Great Yarmouth though I now have mental pictures of the maps of the railways of both through google maps over the past couple of weeks. The museum article is really a stub to be improved at some point. The key point is the curator should have some information on the Howrah Junction as they have a dedicated area to the station. I haven't found the website for the museum which was a surprising thing, but its probably under Eastern Railways so I leave that to you. I was a bit surprised to come across this resource [1] which I guess you already know about. I am still unaware how Howrah Junction actually got on my watchlist. Anyway best wishes and hope this didn't disturb you too much.Djm-leighpark (talk) 23:14, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
