OK[edit]

Maurreen, thanks - it was a good idea to link to the SOS CD version from V0.5N for now. I had presumed we were continuing as discussed here and here to the next version, though I understand that you may not want to take on Release Version 1.0 just yet. I just didn't want nominators to get annoyed that they had missed the deadline, and I've always regarded nomination as an ongoing, permanent fixture of the project (once begun). We can always re-open the link in a few days if it's needed. See my comments here and hopefully we can get a consensus. Cheers, Walkerma 19:04, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note. I'm really glad we seem to be coming broadly to the same conclusions, and probably others are too - hopefully that means we can easily get a consensus on what to do next. Walkerma 17:19, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Geography wikipedia project[edit]

Hello, I thought you might be interested in helping Wikipedia:WikiProject_Geography. If so, just add your name to the page. Thanks AlexD 11:35, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply, I know what you mean about neglecting things in real life, so I think the project is going to be a bit more laid back than most and not trying to get everything done quickly, so i look forward to your help and edits. Thanks againAlexD 22:07, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Completing Version 0.5 reviews[edit]

Maurreen, thanks for all your help on things like the core topics and core bios. And now we've made V0.5 over 1000 articles! I understand you're busy, but now we only have about four weeks left to review articles for Wikipedia:Version 0.5. I was wondering if you could take a look at Wikipedia:Version_0.5/To_do and sign up for something - perhaps the core topics or biographies? I'd like us to make sure we don't miss anything important. And once the end of the month rolls around we can take a well-deserved break...! Any help you can give would be most welcome. Thanks, Walkerma 21:46, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply, I'd guessed it was probably the case. Thanks too for the update on the IRC. Walkerma 22:54, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding having a main encyclopedia-section with balance, and appendices of featured content and raw "good" content, you said:

"It seems very halfway to me. The threshold varies too much, the amount of attention, etc., varies too much."
The first section -- small and refined -- is indeed 'halfway', at least until it grows to encompass most of WP. The other two sections definitely contain material with varied quality, depth, and tone / intended audience; which is why they could make fine appendices. But perhaps I did not understand what you meant :-) +sj + 21:42, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just letting you know that there are basically two criteria for deleting WikiProjects. These include no activity in 3 months and no listed members. Right now, the project above qualifies as both. If you were to add a membership list, then it would qualify for neither. It is being added to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council's directory, and will with any luck attract more members when it is a bit more visible. Best of luck. Hello, Maurreen. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Ca-on-wd.gif) was found at the following location: User talk:Maurreen. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Wikipedia problems, by 84.66.17.239, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Wikipedia problems has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Wikipedia problems, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Category:Wikipedia problems itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 21:45, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of American copy editors[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article List of American copy editors, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Speedy deletion of Template:V1.0 nom possible[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:V1.0 nom possible requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

CfD: Domotics[edit]

Hiya Maurreen, I'm from Raleigh originally and still read the N & O from time to time...never noticed any copyediting problems in the business section, so keep up the good work :) You created a category called "Domotics" 4 years ago. It's a term that never caught on, and most of the articles in that category are also tagged "Home automation", which is what you get redirected to if you type "domotics", anyway. In tech articles in particular, we're trying to make things easier for the many non-native-English speakers by using words that aren't too obscure, and "domotics" only get 79K Google hits...do you have any objection to merging it into "Home automation"? - Dan Dank55 (talk) 22:36, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HMX-1[edit]

You made an edit to the talk page of this article quite a while ago, however, since you stated you were part of the squadron, I was wondering if you had information I could look for? Is there a list of past commanders of HMX-1?

The reason I am asking, is that the grandfather of a girl I know is a retired marine col. He doesn't talk much about his service. However, he has models of just about every marine helicopter in his den. And he has a retirement gift of a jar of jelly beans signed by President Reagan.

RE: US Armed Forces, specifically titles[edit]

This is old news, probably, but I wanted to let you know that ranks are capitalised in ALL circumstances, as they are official titles. Example, you would still write "Sergeant First Class," or "Lieutenant Colonel" whether they were followed by a name or not. As well, the Army in specific has taken a unique view on the word "soldier." When used specifically to descxribe its own members, the Army purposely capitalises the word. It's their prerogative. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.146.160.51 (talk) 20:56, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
