The Last Ship

Of course, it should have its own article in time. That's why I suggested a merge rather than delete. It's obviously going to grow, but until additional info is available, the three sentences there can easily fit under Sting (musician)#2010s. WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

Thank you for your recent articles, including Coke Live Music Festival. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. This can help you too, as the WikiProject members will often defend your work from deletion and try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information.   • talk page robi sie recznie (mozna automatycznie, np. z WP:TWINKLE, ale malo kto to robi)
  • talk page powinien byc dostepny w tej samej lini, ale po lewej (obok loga wikipedii), zwykle sa tam article/talk, czy np. teraz jak do ciebie pisze, user page/talk. Zobacz: Wikipedia:Talk page jesli lubisz czytac intstrukcje obslugi :)
  • jesli mozesz, tworz talk page sama (inaczej ktos, np. ja, musi to zrobic - ja mecze ludzi by je tworzyli, bym mnial mniej roboty; bo co tydzien i tak spedzam kilka godzin porzadkujac ta liste (kilknij show po prawiej...)
  • im wiecej tym lepiej, przy czym nie ktorych nie ma (np. nie mamy WPWARSAW, dla Polski jest tylko WP Poland). Najlepiej sprawdzic, jakie sa tagi na kilku podobnych artykulach, po kilku takich wstawieniach bedziesz juz pamietala. Dla biografil to jest WP:nazwa kraju, z opcjonalnym class= i importance=, i WP:BIO|living= z parametrem yes/no, class= jest opcjonalne. Na muzyce sie dosc slabo znam, wiec akurat nie jestem pewien co sie wstawia, dalej szokuje mnie nieco, ze nie istnieje tag dla Wikipedia:WikiProject Music, ale zerknij na Wikipedia:WikiProject_Music#Assessments.

Do klasy C ocenia sie jak kto chce, zwyke - tak "na oko" :) Przy B-klasie to tez sie zdarza, ale niektore projekty (Poland, Biography, Milhist) have their own assessment departments. GA and higher are quite formal (WP:GAN is the first really universal quality mark). The 20/20 Experience & The 2nd Law

Hi,

I`ll be completely honest with you, when i see a good article such as those, i look for ANYTHING that keep them for being a B, and is not out of being an a55|-|013 but seeking excelence and in the case of this two articles there are one thing that 20/20 has but 2dn law lacks and viceversa: In the second law the personnel section is perfectly divided in musical and technical personnel while the 20/20 is not and the 20/20 has two samples while the 2nd law has none.

i know all this may sound arbitrary, and it probably is, the difference betwen a good C and a B is QUITE blurry, do this couple of changes, let me know and i`ll gladly make them B. Zidane tribal (talk) 18:07, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

That's not correct. Even in a nomination for GA or FA (see Sons of Soul or Aaliyah (album) for ex.), style changes for a personnel section such as this would hardly be an issue. It has no bearing on B-class assessment. Ordering them based on importance is entirely subjective and unencyclopedic. MOS:ALBUM#Personnel says to let the circumstances dictate the organization; the example you pointed out there doesn't have the same person fulfilling multiple roles (listed twice). Alphabetical order doesn't suggest a stylist is being assigned greater importance; it's simply alphabetical and entirely impartial. Any reader would notice that, but listing persons twice for the sake of maintaining a look is not economic and only redundant. Dan56 (talk) 21:41, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Also, all of the examples listed at MOS:ALBUM#Personnel are in alphabetical order (last name, stage name, etc.), so it should make sense that Allmusic does it the same way. Dan56 (talk) 21:58, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
@Dan56: The only people I listed twice (in the "Musicians" and "Technical personnel" columns) are Timberlake himself, Harmon and The Tennessee Kids. How many characters more is that, 70? I would say that in this case, "uneconomic" use of those characters is a small price to pay if we get a clearer view of who-did-what on the album ;) It may be subjective, as you say, but still I'd say that my version is more legible. Maybe if I had the actual album booklet and could check the credits there, I could use the order that is in it and would be able to do it better, but unfortunatelly I don't have it. Although I've created some "Personnel" sections in my 'Wikipedian' career (usually based on booklets) and I have a general idea what the order is (like: producers go before hairdressers – but if there are more producers than one, I see no reason why they couldn't be listed alphabetically – still, before assistant mix engineers, stylists, etc). If my version wouldn't be absolutely PERFECT, someone else might work on it later. Improving articles is a team effort ;) Maybe we should discuss it further on the album talk page and see what others think? — Mayast (talk) 22:11, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia does not conform to the MOS of primary sources; booklets provide information, they don't dictate how it should be ordered. There's no room for subjective ordering in an encyclopedia. Without some indisputable order, any editor can rearrange the credits in importance according to their POV. Your preferred form does not address that issue, and there's a reason all the examples at MOS:ALBUM#Personnel are alphabetically ordered. And what goes "before" or "after" is trivial and doesn't signify anything about importance; dividing them into two columns can be read either left-to-right or up-down, and blue links to articles signify notability more than anything else. The credit next to the name gives a clear view of who-did-what. Subheadings in this case would be nothing more than superfluous flair. A list of a little over 20 credits is hardly unclear for readers. Dan56 (talk) 22:32, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Dan, we have been working together for a while now, i`ve rated a lot of your articles, and it surprises me a little you are making a fuss over this; while is true the ordering of the personnel section is minor and i may have been picky when point them as a difference betwen C and B, the matter is hardly worth an argument, let us not fight over the color of a template and let this matter rest. Muse discography

@Thunderbolt93: Sure, I can do that. Although I meant the discography's talk page, not mine :) So that more contributors could discuss the topic. But I wouldn't add ITA chart in the compilation albums section, as there is no Italian chart position for Hullabaloo Soundtrack. And I was wondering what to do about the singles, which chart should there be deleted to make room for Italy. Mayast is a mix of the first two letters of my name ("Ma***") and four letters of my surname ("Jast****", but it would be pronounced in English as "Yast"). Not really that interesting :) And what about "Sohambanerjee1998"? So, do I get this correctly? "Bengali" is a name for the Bangladesh citizens, and there are two types among them (Ghati and Bengal)? Or did I get that one wrong? ;) What I know about my former class mate is that he was Muslim and his first name was Mohammad, he was from Bangladesh and was referred to as Bengali (not Bengal), so I don't think he was of Indian origin. Anyway, it was kind of exotic to have a kid from your part of the world at school. There's quite a big Vietnamese minority in Poland, especially in Warsaw, so over the years I have met some Vietnamese people at school or at the university. No no all those who speak Bangla language are called Bengalis. During the british period the Bengal was one united land. Later after independence in 1947 it got divided into two West Bengal (A state of India) and East Bengal (informal term). This East Bengal is known as Bangladesh (became independent on 1971) and the Bengali speaking people of Bangladesh origin are called Bangals (pronounced as Bangg'aal). While the Bengali speaking people of India origin are called Ghati (Pronounced as Gho'tee). Yes we are kind of Exotic I guess. Sohambanerjee1998 09:55, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

She went there to teach English in a language school and after those six months (that's how long her contract lasted) she came back. She visited some tourist attractions, took a lot of photos, and that's pretty much it :) She also started learning Chinese and then continued to learn it in Poland. As I remember correctly, she plans to take some language exams which are organized very rarely in Poland (like once or twice a year), so she was thinking about going to China to take the exam, but those plans are now on hold for about a year, because she has a lot of work at the university. — Mayast (talk) 10:55, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

I might ask her, although I don't think she's taken a photo of any tourist attraction that isn't already on the Internet. What is more, I have taken a lot of photos over the years, during my holidays in different parts of Europe, but I don't see much of a point in uploading them (that would be a lot of work! ;)). Maybe if I'll stumble upon a tourist attraction that doesn't have its photo in a Wikipedia article, I'll do that.

Re: AM cover

Hello. There was certainly nothing wrong with your upload, it's just that for monochromatic (B&W) covers the PNG format is usually superior to JPEGs because it allows for a lower filesize and lossless quality; whereas a JPEG may include unsightly compression artifacts. I'm a bit fastidious about album covers because I collect them and edit scans as a hobby so I often upload new versions if there's even a little bit of an improvement to be had. If the new upload is the same filetype as the old one (e.g. JPG) then I simply upload over it, but when you're dealing with a new filetype (PNG) then a whole new upload and filename is needed. I usually delete the old versions and update the tags and so on to make sure that there's no busy work left over.
Anyway, guessing by your uploads that you're a fan of Arctic Monkeys. I'm giving AM the first spin right now and it is awesome. Turner & co. never disappoint :) ˉˉanetode╦╩ 21:46, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Mayast. I've seen that you're actively editing and improving an article about AM's discography. There, in enwiki, there's not a lot of position in many charts. In russian wikipedia I and some another editors have added ones (article). So, could you move them into enwiki article? That'll be very fine --Morganvolter (talk) 19:27, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

@Morganvolter: Hi. Do you mean chart positions for AM (the album), or the total number of charts in the Arctic Monkeys discography article? If it's the second one, I'm afraid that's not possible. On English Wikipedia there is a rule that the max. number of charts in the table is 10: "In the case of multiple charts, "comprehensive" does not necessarily mean an exhaustive list of countries and charts the artist has charted on. A limit of approximately 10 separate charts is suggested, using any combination of country, component, or competing charts." (WP:DISCOGSTYLE#Per-release). So, if someone wants to check chart positions for other countries, they are included in the albums' articles. I'm not sure when was this rule introduced, as I think some time ago English Wikipedia had more chart positions, too. — Mayast (talk) 07:06, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

@Morganvolter: No, it's not :) I just wanted to reply here (instead of starting a new section on your talk page, for example using the {{talkback}} template), and thanks to this template you got a notification that I have replied here. I often find it more convenient than going to other Users' talk pages. But when you write on someone's talk page, you don't have to use it, because they get the notification anyway ;)
You have nothing to be sorry about :D A few weeks ago I didn't know about that rule, too :) Anyway, you are right – it makes the tables narrower, and as a result easier to read. Some of the discography articles on English Wikipedia still have more charts than 10, but that's only because they haven't been "trimmed down" (or "cut down") to that limit of 10 charts yet. But when you'll look at some of the "high profile" discography articles (like for Adele, Beyoncé, etc.), they are already limited to 10 charts.

I don't know what do you mean? Adding a separate source for every song, to confirm its existance? An article like that is basicly a list of wiki links to Arctic Monkeys albums and singles, and it's main purpose is to allow easier navigation and access to Arctic Monkeys releases (for example, if someone hears "Cornerstone" on the radio or TV and wants to know on which album was that song released, he/she can check the list and go to Humbug's page). And reference sources for albums and singles are already in their own articles.
I think a source next to the song would be definitely necessary if that song wasn't mentioned anywhere else on Wikipedia, or if it was somehow difficult to find. Take a look at List of songs recorded by Coldplay or List of songs recorded by Foo Fighters: you have hundreads of songs in those articles, but there are only sources for a few of them. In List of songs recorded by Jay-Z sources are only provided for the songs in which Jay-Z was a guest artist. On the other hand, some articles give a source for each and every song, like List of songs recorded by Beyoncé Knowles, but I don't think I would have the patience to do the same thing with Arctic Monkeys, and I also don't think it's actually necessary in a list like that.
What I understand by "importance of citing sources" is something different: adding sources to new pieces of information that are included in articles, so that other users would know where that information comes from. For example, when I add a quote from an album review, I always add a source for it.
If you feel that List of songs recorded by Arctic Monkeys needs some sources, you are always welcome to work on that article and add them :) As I mentioned, I don't think I would have the patience. — Mayast (talk) 13:45, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, it's interesting. I again based on ruwiki's articles. ru:Список песен Depeche Mode, for example. There are sources for every song and I think it's right. It's even compactly and doesn't take a lot of space. Here, for example, I've heard somewhere "I Wanna Be Yours". I quickly open at Wikipedia list of Arctic Monkeys' songs and found "I Wanna Be Yours". Here I can see, that it was written by Turner and Cooper Clarke. Okay. I need proof, but you said I can see it in the certain article. Okay. I open AM article and crop up that there also there's no reference sources. :( I'm sad. Of course, I can google it, but we are saying about wikipe. So, to my mind, it's not well, because in that case list depends of song's articles very much. It's not right! For example, there in featured lists there are sources for every song! 1, 2, 3. Even though some ones link to wikipedia article, but they are. I think that everybody should write articles like featured, isn't? :) I'm sorry for my English, I could make some mistakes Morganvolter (talk) 14:57, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
@Morganvolter: Well, here's my opinion, you don't have to agree with it :) Featured articles would be perfect, but very few articles will ever get there ;) And they very rarely are created by one person, usually they are result of the effort of many contributors, over many months or even years.
I usually start articles for topics that I personally find interesting, and that I think should be covered in some way. For example, a new album by a notable artist, like Big TV (I started it soon after White Lies announced they would be releasing a new album), or some albums by Richard Bona or Anoushka Shankar (I though it was strange that albums by such a world-class musicians aren't covered on Wikipedia ;) Especially that Anoushka's Traveller was nominated for Grammy Award a few months ago). I don't think these articles will ever be FA, or even GA, but when someone wants to check the track list for those CDs or read some basic information about them, they will find it there. When I feel OK about the way my article looks, I publish it, even though it's probably very far from being perfect. And later, when I find some more sources related to that topic on the Internet, I add them to the article to improve it, usually one small piece of information at a time.
I have a group of articles on my watchlist (you can find most of them on my user page – those are the articles that I've created, or spend A LOT time improving, like AM (Arctic Monkeys album) or Fading West, etc.), and everyday I check what changes were made by other users, to make sure that no one has vandalised them ;) But if someone adds some useful information and improves the article, I'm very happy about it.
Every now and then I feel inspired to start a new article, for example today it was an article about Artur Andrus. But I don't sit on just one article for a few weeks straight, to make sure it will get to that GA or FA class – I usually move on to the next thing (that I find interesting and worth improving) earlier.
And that's how it was with that list of AM songs: I felt somewhat inspired to make the navigation between various Arctic Monkeys songs/albums easier, so I've spent many, many hours working on that table with songs (probably too many hours of my life ;)), and finally, when all the songs [that I've found] were included, and I was OK with how it looked, I published it. I achieved my goal (crating a useful navigation tool for Arctic Monkeys fans), but you are right that the article isn't perfect. And so, if you feel that there is something missing (like those reference sources), you are welcome to improve it ;) I'm not the article's owner, I'm just its creator. And to be honest, I don't think I have enough will and energy to spend another X hours on adding sources for every song in there. @Mayast: I agree with you. I also write articles (in ruwiki, of course) only for those topics I'm interested in it by the moment. But sometimes I have desire to make GA or FL from a certain article. But it's not for a long. @Morganvolter: Haha, don't worry about it :D I wrote such a long reply only because I wanted to make sure that I will be understood correctly :) If we are talking about getting an article to GA/FA level, right now I feel that way only about one article from that list on my user page: "Atlas". I feel this one has a potential, although it still requires a lot of work. Others may have some potential too, for example AM, but they would need to be considerably re-organised. One day I might feel like doing that, but I'm not there just yet ;) Interesting thing: I do very few edits on plwiki :D I kinda got used to all the rules on enwiki (like that number of charts), and I the proper coverage of a topic on English Wikipedia is kind of more importantto me than its coverage on plwiki, because much more people will be able to read it and use that information. Maybe it was more easy to you to integrate into English Wikipedia, because English is your second language and you know it very well. @Morganvolter: Oh, so you are Ukrainian? :) I have a friend who is half-Russian, half-Ukrainian :) I may be wrong, but I think you might feel the same way about choosing Russian over Ukrainian, as I do about choosing English over Polish: it's accessible to a much larger group of people (and therefore more useful), especially when so many Ukrainians speak Russian. And I guess it's nice to be a part of something big, like an encyclopedia that has millions of entries/articles, instead of thousands :)
I'm not sure about that "knowing English very well" – often, when I make edits on wiki, I find myself looking for the right words in English ;) But one of the reasons for doing those edits (not the most important, but still...) is learning English. @Morganvolter: I had to look up this "depth" indicator ;) Now I see that it's very, very low. I guess one of the reasons for that is low activity of WikiProject on plwiki. There is no assessment of articles' quality and importance, and talk pages aren't crated with the {{Wikiproject Albums}}, {{WikiProject Songs}}, etc. templates, but only when there is something to discuss with regard to specific articles. — Mayast (talk) 14:14, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

The 'fore 2013 is no hard and fast rule, wait for an admin to do it, if s/he does'n't most probably it won't require a deletion. Don't worry about it, just keep it as it is. Its a tough call to make, generally with my experience with OST covers if a deletion tag shows up within 1 week, if it does'n't then your out of harms way. I guess that cover won't be deleted as it is considered old. Just don't upload any more other than for standalone articles like for eg. - Star Trek (soundtrack). @Sohambanerjee1998: I haven't done any assessments yet, so I think it would be better to ask someone with more experience ;) for example here or in a new section. But I think it's somewhere between start-class and C-class. Anyway, here are some of my thoughts on this article:
  1. It would be better if you would move those first two boxes with quotes about the song to a new section, titled for example "Song theme" or "Composition", and put that section before "Release and Marketing". And the third quote (from Suresh Raina) could be included in the "Collaboration with Xolo" sub-section. That way the article would have a better structure.
  2. The "Personnel" section usually contains personnel that recorded the song: musicians, producers, sound engineers etc., plus sometimes graphic artists who designed the cover. I haven't seen an article that would include credits for the music video – these are usually mentioned in prose, in the "Music video" section. For example, "The music video was directed by Ashima Chibber and cinematographed/filmed by Adil Afsar." The other names are relatively not important, so I would drop them.

Ok, I see it now. But if you would use {{quote}} or {{cquote}} templates instead of {{quote box}}, it would be displayed in the text inside of that section, and not in a box, which is a floating element that is displayed on the side of the article. Here's one way how it could look: (I used {{quote}} in the first two quotes, and {{cquote}} in the third one): User:Mayast/sandbox/oheeriye. I think that especially the third one looks nice this way, and it makes the article look longer and more developed. But that's just my opinion :) Plus, the quotes would might need to be composed in the text a little better, so that they wouldn't be out of context. — Mayast (talk) 13:58, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, but I'm affraid I can't... I feel that I don't have the necessary knowledge from this field, and I wouldn't be able to translate it accurately. I don't even know how to translate his name to Polish, as most of the royal names are translated (eg. "George VI" -> "Jerzy VI", "Charles, Prince of Wales" -> "Karol, książę Walii", etc.). Also, I'm not familiar with the royal titles from different countries. Moreover, what makes it harder is the fact that the articles about the parents of the prince (David Bagration of Mukhrani and Ana Bagration-Gruzinsky) aren't translated to Polish, so I'm not able to find any patterns there. — Mayast (talk) 17:48, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

No, that won't be his name in Polish. His last name will also be translated, to form an adjective. For example, a quick search in Google revealed that George Bagration of Mukhrani (who, by the way, married Helena Złotnicka from Poland) is sometimes translated as "Jerzy Bagration-Muchraneli" (eg. here), and another time as "Jerzy Bagration-Muchrański" (here). And the name of the Bagrationi dynasty is in Polish either Bagrationowie or Bagratydzi. I really feel that I'm not the right person to translate that name :) In fact, I have no idea what his name should sound like in Polish. Proposed deletion of Shelby Logan's Run

Hi. I appreciate your policing wikipedia... but if you look at that stub, it has only been created yesterday! I am the only person adding "pervasive games" to wikipedia right now, with one other person controlling my posts so that they are wiki style. The whole domain of games that is sorely MISSING from wikipedia and is as old as 2009! I only have two hands, so writing will take some time. @K.Nevelsteen: Hi :) Please don't take it the wrong way, but in my opinion [as a new page patroller] an article which only consists of one line of text shouldn't be published, at least not yet. The rules of New pages patrol say that reviewers should wait 15 minutes from the last edit before tagging the article, here it was more than 24 hours, so I assumed that it won't be expanded further in the nearest future. If the article is still under construction and you're planning to improve it, using the {{under construction}} template might be a good idea — or, even better, working on a new article in your sandbox, and then moving it to the main namespace ;)
Anyway, I want to help :) I admit that I don't know anything about pervasive games ;) but if I understand this page correctly, Shelby Logan's Run was one edition of The Game (treasure hunt), held in 2002. I'm not sure whether this one 'event' (or whatever else the players call it) is notable enough to have its own Wikipedia article. But maybe "Shelby Logan's Run" could act as a redirect to "The Game"? Especially when there is already some more text about it in that article. And if there is [later] enough content to justify a stand-alone article about Shelby Logan's Run, the redirect could be replaced with that article? — Mayast (talk) 20:06, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
