March 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm PopoDameron. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Meherrin, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. – PopoDameron talk 01:48, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Meherrin Indian Nation", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. – Popo Dameron talk 01:49, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I represent the Meherrin Indian Tribe. I am not sure who you are and why you keep changing the information of my people. Meherrin Indian Nation (talk) 02:33, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia's username policy specifies that an account name cannot represent companies, organizations or groups of people. Your account name must represent you as an individual, and access to it cannot be shared with anyone else.
It also appears that you copied text from your website either word-for-word or closely paraphrased, and the website has a copyright notice. You cannot post copyrighted material on Wikipedia - even if you are the copyright holder, or have the copyright holder's permission - unless the material has been released for use by the verified copyright owner into the public domain or under a license compatible with Wikipedia. These licenses allow anyone — not just Wikipedia — to share, distribute, transmit, and adapt your work, free of charge and in perpetuity, provided that you are attributed as the author. Also, because some derivative works may be commercial, we cannot accept materials that are licensed only for educational use or even for general non-commercial use. Releasing the material is both permanent and irrevocable.
Wikipedia article content consists of paraphrased summaries of material published in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, written in a plainly factual and neutral point of view. Primary sources affiliated with the subject should be used only in limited circumstances. Articles are not owned or controlled by their subjects, and editors who are affiliated with the article subject must acknowledge that they have a conflict of interest.
Having said all that, I realize that with topics concerning indigenous peoples, there is a deficiency of reliable, non-primary sources... as well as systemic bias in sources that are historically Eurocentric. The best way to address these is to open a discussion at the article's talk page (Talk:Meherrin) to voice your concerns and attempt to achieve consensus of what needs to be updated. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 04:42, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident with which you may be involved. Thank you. – Popo Dameron talk 03:10, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest information[edit]

Information icon Hello, Meherrin Indian Nation. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. -- Pemilligan (talk) 03:34, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

March 2023[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website, I have blocked this account from editing. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

It also appears that your account is intended to be used for the purpose of telling the world about an organization, person or cause that you consider worthwhile. Unfortunately, many good causes are not sufficiently notable for their own Wikipedia article, and all users are discouraged from editing in any area where they have an inherent conflict of interest. You may wish to consider one of these alternative outlets. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page here: {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page here: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
