Reliability of U2gigs.com

I know that there's been discussion of the reliability of U2gigs.com, but I just came across 2 print sources where the site is referenced. The first is the 2009 book U2: A Musical Biography. I don't have a copy of the book but a search at Google Books shows that the site is mentioned in the book. The second is at the very bottom of the page in a 2007 issue of Billboard in a brief article about the songs played on the Vertigo Tour (link). It's cited as u2-vertigo-tour.com (which, as your probably know, is the old url of U2gigs.com and typing it in will redirect you to the new site). I actually just referenced this article from Billboard for the "Streets" article, but it seems pretty redundant since I might have well have cited the website directly. Elevation-tour.com is cited in the book U2 Live: A Concert Documentary, and according to U2gigs' FAQ, Elevation-tour.com uses their database. I think that those uses definitely help with establishing its reliability (and come to think of it, I'm pretty sure that I used that Billboard article too in the "City of Blinding Lights" FAC when somebody questioned the website then, I think it was Steve who said that U2.com's tour section would be best for that kind of sourcing, though that doesn't help us out for anything earlier than the Vertigo Tour, and even parts of that are incomplete). I've never had a problem with using U2Gigs as a source myself, and I've been in contact with Axver from the website before (during the first No Line FAC) to try and establish the reliability; he brought up that U2 themselves linked to the website in the liner notes for the dutch release of No Line. It's worth keeping it in there for now until the next U2 song or album article goes to FAC I guess; those uses are what help to make a source considered reliable by editors outside of the WikiProject/subject matter. If nothing else it gives us more ammunition for keeping the website as source, and at worst we can replace it with one of the various concert documentary books out there. 360 tour Boxscore

Hello there friend. I'm posting here in regards to the 360 tour page. As far as the talk page...no consensus about anything was reach. The summation of the first section posted about billboard's accuracy was that despite whether the one user though it was accurate or not, it's verifiable information, and it also corroborates other reports about the tours gross. No one agreed to delete it so I don't see why the info was deleted in the first place, especially when wiki's policy emphasizes that personal research does not merit the structure of a page. Personal research being the person who "worked at the venue" stating that the tickets weren't sold out. There is no way to verify that info. Basically what I'm saying here is the info should stay because billboard is verifiable, the user who said they didn't sell out is not. Do as you please. It is not a detail that I particularly care about enough to get into conflict over. However, along with the original IP two additional users agreed that it probably should not be included. Myself on the talk page, and Y2kcrazyjoker with his reversion of your edit. So far as I can see you are the only person angling for it's inclusion. The consensus was most certainly for it to not be included by those who previously involved themselves in it's removal. Hi. Once again, you've crafted a nice piece. I'm not a fan at all, but from reviewing your articles, I've learned more about U2 than I ever thought necessary, or desirable. But hey, all knowledge is good knowledge, and maybe it'll come in useful in a pub quiz one day. :-) You asked over on the GA page, "Do you think it'll take long before it reaches FA quality, despite the short length?" To be perfectly honest, I don't know. It depends on a few things: whether any more information is available about the song; whether you get reviewers who are happy to see such a short article listed (some aren't keen, and will argue the point; others are OK with it). And you might have to strengthen up the rationale on that fair-use audio clip, which may not be possible if no other commentary is available. Howdy. I recently noticed you made this edit. What is your opinion on me creating an external links section in the article, and putting that video link there? Maybe with a little note or something stating it is only viewable in the United States? My thoughts are that we don't typically take external links off pages just because they are in a foreign language. I just had a FA of mine (Mariano Rivera) appear on the Main Page last month as Today's Featured Article. From my very limited experience, I thought I'd let you know (if you weren't already aware) that the TFA blurb for an article will be locked from editing 24 hours before the article is scheduled to appear on the Main Page. More than 10 music charts for an album

Romanization for words of English origin

On the MOS:JP talk page, a discussion has been started about including or not including romanizations for words of English origin, such as Fainaru Fantajī in Final Fantasy (ファイナルファンタジー, Fainaru Fantajī) (for the sake of simplicity, I called this case "words of English origin", more information on semantics here).

Over the course of a month, it has become apparent that both the parties proposing to include or not include those romanizations cannot be convinced by the arguments or guidelines brought up by the other side. Therefore, a compromise is trying to be found that will satisfy both parties. One suggestion on a compromise has been given already, but it has not found unanimous agreement, so additional compromises are encouraged to be suggested.

One universally accepted point was to bring more users from the affected projects in to help achieve consensus, and you were one of those selected in the process.

What this invitation is:

  • You should give feedback on the first suggested compromise and are highly encouraged to provide other solutions.

What this invitation is not:

  • This is not a vote on including or excluding such romanizations.
  • This is not a vote on compromises either.

Slug song article...

Just wanted to congratulate you on that awesome work you did with the Slug song page from the Passengers album, both of which I love! It's one of my favourite songs, and I really enjoyed building it up from scratch (despite the brief merging debate about a month back). "Your Blue Room" is probably in need of a bit of work going by memory, and I had a request from another user to do something for "Always Forever Now" if I could find enough information on it. I'm also hoping to do something with "Two Hearts Beat as One" at some point, since that's pretty much the song that got me into U2! I'll see you around I'm sure. Woo hoo. Just got u2 tickets for the Tuesday in Sydney. GA this time to try and relive my Zoo tv in Sydney adventure. The best thing about u2 in Australia is they usually have odd beat set lists. I saw hawkmoon 269 in 89 (gobsmacked when it opened the show - I initially thought they were reworking streets with that opening guitar). Although, we had to listen to all the bb king blundering. Then we had all the zooropa songs - stay and dirty day being the highlight of the night. Popmart in Sydney had bad, SBS, Mlk, and never tear us apart outro (hutschense was a Sydney boy), then vertigo had cate blanchett version of kite and the saints are coming. What will u2360 bring? And in 84 when I was a bit too young they previewed the UF songs before the album release. How dud u get front row at 360?

Congrats; wish I had the money to take a trip down under and see them too. Australia and New Zealand do usually get songs that the rest of the world misses out on. I'd have loved to see that extended "Kite"; heck, I'd love to see it period! Toronto had 2 concerts, so it wasn't as much as a rush getting in GA. We went down early that morning (think we arrived about 9am or 10am) and ended up being about the 70th-80th in the GA line. Because of how large the stage is though, there was more than enough room for us to pick a spot up front. I think we ended up being in the fourth or fifth row, but it almost doesn't matter where you end up because of the bridges. Bono and Edge were constantly in motion over them, and the bridges were almost always swinging around. For next year's concert in T.O. we may go down the night before though, since it's just the one concert instead of two. Melicans (talk, contributions) 21:45, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

That link has nothing at all to do with the tour; U2 is not even mentioned. If you are referring to opening acts, the U2.com tour page and many other sources say that OneRepublic opened, not the British singer. Melicans (talk, contributions) 20:06, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

So? Kanye West is rap, but he opened for U2 in Australia in 2006. The genre of the opening act has nothing to do with whether or not they actually opened the concert. Mothers of the Disappeared

Looking at your sandbox, this looks article looks like it is going to come out fantastic! Great work! I think it may be worth including some information about Larry Mullen's drum part, which was synthesized to give it that unique sound. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you should watch the band talk about the song with the producers on Classic Albums.

Thanks; it took a lot of time yesterday, but I've got it put out there now. Already nominated at DYK, and I think it could go straight into GAN as well. There's a little more out there on Composition I wanted to add, but until a book I ordered arrives there's nothing more I can see to be done. It won;t stop it from staying in the mainspace, anyways.
I checked Classic Albums, but most of what they said was already in the article. The only thing I was really able to add was Lanois's reaction, and the tool Eno used to create the sound. I'll try to help with The Joshua Tree but I can't make any promises. This one was pretty much a last-gasp effort I did before really throwing myself into school and work for the year. BTW, it seems a little unclear to me, from the references I've encountered, whether Bono met with the Madres de Plaza de Mayo, or if he met with COMADRES. I believe the Madres de Plaza de Mayo are Argentinian, but the COMADRES were Salvadoran. Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talk • contributions) 19:53, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
The references I've seen mention the Madres; I know that in it's previous incarnation it mentioned COMADRES, but it wasn't sourced, and I didn't see them mentioned in any of what I checked. I wouldn't be surprised if he met with COMADRES but mixed them up with the Madres, or if he met with both and the sources only seemed to report on the latter. Wide Awake in Europe DYK

DYK noms don't expire. So long as it is nominated within the first 5 days of creation/expansion, it can be on the nominations page for multiple weeks before being commented on/approved. Nothing to worry about; I can guarantee it will be on the main page before it is released! Some noms just get skimmed over a few times. I'm known to the usual DYK crowd as a U2 article nominator, so I'm a bit loathe to comment and approve myself in case there's a perceived conflict of interest. "City of Blinding Lights" is a song by rock band U2. It is the fifth track on their 2004 album How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb and was released as the album's fourth single on 6 June 2005. The song was a top ten hit in Ireland, the United Kingdom, and several other countries. The music video was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia. The earliest incarnation of the song was developed during sessions for the band's 1997 album Pop. The lyrics were partially inspired by lead singer Bono's memory of his first trip to London, and by the band's experience of playing New York City in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. Other lyrics refer to Bono's relationship with his wife. The song's underlying theme reflects lost innocence and was inspired by an image Bono saw of himself from the early 1980s. The sound has been compared to the tone of U2's 1984 album The Unforgettable Fire and their 1987 single "Where the Streets Have No Name". "City of Blinding Lights" was well received by critics and won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song at the 2006 ceremony. The track has been used in episodes of The Simpsons and Entourage, and in the film The Devil Wears Prada. Barack Obama used it at campaign events during the 2008 US presidential election, and listed it as one of his favourite songs. Primeval -- Youtube trailer

Another editor added several references to List of creatures in Primeval based on info seen in the trailer for the upcoming series 4. He gave a Youtube link for this. You deleted these citations as "unreliable". But you left behind several statements now with no supporting citations. If you're going to be strict about not allowing Youtube as a source, then you have to delete the material it supported. I personally don't see how a trailer made by ITV is "unreliable", regardless of whether it's on Youtube. I restored one of the references, but I can guess you'll dispute that. If you insist that for some esoteric WP:XYZ reason that the ITV trailer is "unreliable", well go ahead and strip them, but please do it completely and don't leave uncited "facts", which now look like simple speculation, for readers to puzzle over. I've been pruning away speculation and rumours from fansites, and thin air, from this and related articles for years, but I felt the trailer was solid enough to allow. Videos on YouTube are unreliable as sources unless uploaded by the network/creator (in this case, ITV, ProSieben, Watch, or Impossible Pictures). It's a silly rule, but that is what the sourcing guide said the last time I checked it. The primary reason, as it was explained to me, is copyright reasons. If the trailer has aired on TV then citing it in that manner would be acceptable. But simply posting a YouTube link with no other details is not. WP:LINKVIO and WP:VIDEOLINK explain this further; the former is a policy and the latter a common-sense recommendation. I was in a bit of a rush, and I did not have time to do a thorough read of the article, so I only skimmed the most obvious candidates. I intended to replace them with {{cn}}, but as I say I was in a bit of a rush and I forgot. You have done good work on those articles in the past; I've also dabbled in them from time to time where I felt that some edits were needed. There is no need to be snarky, as you were in your original message to me (or such is the way that I read it); we are all trying to get the same job done, which is to improve articles. I know that there are an almost uncountable amount of policies in effect now; I hope that my explanation and the pages I linked above have helped to explain the reasoning behind my edits to you.
