Nigel Pinchley

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Nigel Pinchley, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Nigel Pinchley. A tag has been placed on Bruce the Performance Artist (Family Guy), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as articles for deletion. If you can indicate how Bruce the Performance Artist (Family Guy) is different from the previously posted material, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article, and also put a note on Talk:Bruce the Performance Artist (Family Guy) saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 4 under General criteria. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please feel free to use deletion review, but do not continue to repost the article if it is deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. We welcome your help in trying to improve Wikipedia, and we request you to follow these instructions. edg 05:40, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago Jazz Music → Music of Chicago

[edit]

Thanks for creating the Chicago jazz article. This has lots of potential.

Per MOS:CAP#Section headings, "Chicago Jazz Music" is miscapitalized, and as a historical music article it would be better entitled Music of Chicago. I have detailed the reasons for this suggestion in Talk:Chicago Jazz Music. Would you be okay with this change? / edg 18:41, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, you can change the title, im ok with that!!!!Mertozoro (talk) 20:32, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Minor character articles being deleted

[edit]

I'm not the one who proposed Awesome Express for deletion, but in general you'll find that new articles on minor characters from fiction are quickly deleted from Wikipedia because of insufficient notability. I would recommend reading the following for suggestions on how to contribute to Wikipedia on this sort of subject:

Other wikis that may need character articles:

  • TV IV – site for practically all TV shows
  • Futurama Wiki – almost any TV show with a following has a wiki on Wikia

AfD nomination of Nigel Pinchley

[edit]

I have nominated Nigel Pinchley, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nigel Pinchley. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Capitalization

[edit]

Just to let you know, article titles on Wikipedia use minimal capitalization. "Hot jazz" gets a capital H at the beginning of a sentence, but other wise is "hot jazz". Relevant guidelines and policy:

Articles usually get an initial capital because the Wikimedia software defaults this way. Only recently has it become possible to force an initial lower-case, and even this is display-only; the article title (in the URL) still has an initial capital. (Example: gOS.)

One of the editors creating new animal articles has been insisting on his own capitalization, and edit warring over it, but these will eventually need to be moved to correct capitalization. You can reduce this eventual workload by using correct Wikipedia naming conventions.

Wrong
Black-chinned Emperor Tamarin‎
Correct
Black-chinned emperor tamarin‎
Wrong
Lesser Egyptian Jerboa
Correct
Lesser Egyptian jerboa – Egyptian is a proper noun, but jerboa is not
Wrong
Echimys Braziliensis
Correct
Echimys braziliensisbraziliensis is not a proper noun, but a taxonomic term derived from a proper noun

That might take some getting used to if you are used to liberal capitalization, but it is quite natural once one becomes used to it.

Thanks again for your contributions. / edg 22:33, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Tawbon, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Hkachang. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 01:04, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I very much appreciate these articles being started but I kindly asked him a few hours back to correct the problem. Now several hours later there are 330 articles wrongly categorized. It isn't a problem if a bot can be used to correct them but I would appreciate it if he had responded or acknoweldged the mistake to save wasting time later. Appreciate the help

[edit]

I appreciate your help on the C-2 10000 m event at the Canoeing at the 1936 Summer Olympics, but as part of the Olympics project, we are trying to get the result of every single event. When you use the Sports-reference website, please make certain to click on the nation for the non-individual event in order to find out who competed, then list that in Wikipedia. Feel free to respond if you have any questions. Thanks. Chris (talk) 19:22, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No it shouldn't be. The rest of the data is from the 2001 census. If you click on population it CLEARLY indicates the data is carried through from 1991. Don't know why they didn't conduct the population in 2001 The Bald One White cat 20:11, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It says "Nepal Census Data 2001: Population 1991". Perhaps they got lazy. I agree I'd rather see 2001 figures too seems as the other data is The Bald One White cat 20:14, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article Riverside School of Music has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication or evidence of notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PKT(alk) 03:22, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Kimura Shukokai has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This seems to be a promotional article for 'Kimura Shukokai International' which is masquerading as a style of karate in itself. The style is Shukokai which already has a page. This article reads as a mission statement for the organisation which seems to be an umbrella body of other karate dojos with limited proof of notability online, it also draws only on primary sources (or reproduced primary sources on other webpages).

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. I was wondering if you'd be interested in setting up Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Turkey), based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). Now it's not a contest in itself, it's designed to motivate people to inspire others to improve content and build something which demonstrates the hard work going into the country which is visible. The focus is more on quality improvements but new articles are welcome too. Eventually a Turkish National Contest could be created to fuel it, like Wikipedia:Awaken the Dragon, in which contestants can choose to keep the Amazon vouchers themselves to buy their own books for more articles or put them into book fund to help editors further improve Turkish-related topics by giving them the books they want. It will begin though as purely an improvement drive. If interested, or you think anybody else might be interested, alert them and sign up on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Turkey talk page at the bottom. Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 14:12, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to the African Destubathon

[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:23, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
You are invited to participate in the 50,000 Challenge, aiming for 50,000 article improvements and creations for articles relating to the United States. This effort began on November 1, 2016 and to reach our goal, we will need editors like you to participate, expand, and create. See more here!

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Fatih Ahıskalı requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
