Thanks for uploading Image:MessengerAtLWU.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. Thanks for uploading Image:Ray_Comfort.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. We're having a very large degree of trouble over on the Jesus article, and with you being a person on the great news network and all, do you think you have the free time to help us out? We're engaged in an edit war right now over possibly the most irrelevant matters over word choices, we can't get consensus because people keep refusing it, and since Jesus is, after all, the reason for The Way of the Master, I thought i'd ask if you have time to help us :/. We're having a big vote on the Jesus talk page right now, if you don't want to get really involved that's ok, but it looks like everyone is basically calling in all their friends to vote heh. You can't be NPOV about a particular religion, especially if you have been indoctrinated into its beliefs.

Bible at WikiKnowledge

I have set up my own wiki, and I have just uploaded a Public Domain version of Genesis. However the page is extremely long and needs to be split up into smaller pages. This is not something I would be able to do as I have little interest or knowledge on the subject but perhaps you might be interested in having a look at it. http://www.gmcfoley.com/wiki/index.php?title=Bible/Genesis. I also have Public Domain versions of the other books which I would be happy to upload if someone was interested in formatting them. I should also point out that my entire wiki is Public Domain also. Im trying to prove to someone that Jesus is God scripturally speaking, but i've never actually had to do this before, and you are the GNN guy whereas im kind of, ahem, not, so do you think you could give me any advice, the conversation started on Talk:Christianity and moved over to User talk:Oscillate where i've just submitted my post, but is there any advice you could give me? Absolutely! Try the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry (direct link); they're not really related to WOTM/GNN (though a lot of the stuff of the guy who runs the site is in the School of Biblical Evangelism textbooks), but I love the materials on their site. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

The banana lie....

That lie about ray ocmfort coverting because of a banana needs to be removed. i contacted way of the master and they said theyll get somebody to monitor it....

First of all, don't just randomly delete stuff on my talk page and replace it with your own. That's just rude. Add your statements to the bottom of the page.
Second of all, if someone (if *MULTIPLE* someones) ask you to discuss it on the talk page before doing another revert, then do it please.
Third, that has nothing to do with this discussion. Homestarmy and I have been trying to get you to stop reverting stuff. The paragraph describes what Comfort considers to be a watershed event in his life. Therefore, it is notable.

The GNN thing

I don't know when you'll read this next, but i'm just curious, this thing with the GNN letter, was this meant to be some sort of private kind of thing? Because its accessable over the internet, someone posted the URL in the Great News Network article, though that was reverted by someone saying it was private, whom I just reverted, on the grounds that if its accessable, it isn't very private. (Plus, I just don't like hiding things like this in general) All i've seen about this so far is the newsblast letter Living Waters sent out (which doesn't go into specifics much) and now the actual PDF letter thing without any possible other background there might be on whatever part of GNN this was posted, so i'm a bit in the dark about what to do about all this. To be honest, the past 28 hours I've been avoiding Wikipedia for this very reason. One of the first things I thought of when I got the e-mail from LW was the fallout here on the wiki. Darrel did not for a while want the article posted even on the private SBE forum, much less on Wikipedia, but at the moment I'm not sure how and if that's changed. Is the link that's on the page now the one that includes his two followup clarifications? If you post the link, make sure it's to that one.
Sigh, I don't think I can go near those articles, or even look at my watchlist at all, right now. For the moment, I'd say leave Darrel and GNN up on the article series menu, and make sure when people write about this that it's crystal clear there is almost no public knowledge as to the specifics (even for those within GNN like myself), and anything else except what the LW e-mail stated would be speculation. Of course, I'm sure you knew that, but it's been the craziest couple days I've had in quite a while. And it's complicated by the fact it happened the day before Darrel and a bunch of the GNN staff left for a boot camp in Miami, then Darrel is in Maui for a week (I think it's for his newspaper business). What's got me concerned someone might make a fight about the PDF being linked from Wikipedia is that although the actual URL works, it appears www.thegreatnews.com/downloads/ is actually "forbidden", which I presume means the general public isn't technically supposed to be in there, yet it apparently doesn't apply to the actual files in this part of the domain. Well, that is usually standard Web server maintenance policy, to make sure people can't access the directory itself and grab all the files at once. As to the link to the updated article, I'll ask them.

Though we have a massive snowstorm coming up, spring is just around the corner! Personally, I am looking forward to warmer weather.

Wikimedia DC is looking forward to a spring full of cool and exciting activities. In March, we have coming up:

  • Evening WikiSalon on Wednesday, March 12 from 7 PM – 9 PM. Meet up with Wikipedians for coffee at the Cove co-working space in Dupont Circle! If you cannot make it in the evening, join us at our...
  • March Meetup on Sunday, March 23 from 3 PM – 6 PM. Our monthly weekend meetup, same place as last month. Meet really cool and interesting people!
  • Women in the Arts 2014 meetup and edit-a-thon on Sunday, March 30 from 10 AM – 5 PM. Our second annual Women in the Arts edit-a-thon, held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Free lunch will be served!

An exciting month of wiki events!

Hello there,

I am pleased to say that April will be a very exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from.

First, a reminder that our second annual Women in the Arts Edit-a-Thon will take place on Sunday, March 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Coming up in April, we have our first-ever Open Government WikiHack with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! We are working together to use open government data to improve the Wikimedia projects, and we would love your help. All are welcome, regardless of coding or editing experience. We will also be having a happy hour the day before, with refreshments courtesy of the Sunlight Foundation.

On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics.

The following day, we are having our second annual Wiki Loves Capitol Hill training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week.

There are other meetups in the works, so be sure to check our meetup page with the latest. I hope to see you at some of these events!

I'm pleased to tell you about two upcoming edit-a-thons:

  • This Tuesday, April 29, from 2:30 to 5:30 PM, we have the Freer and Sackler edit-a-thon. (Sorry for the short notice!)
  • On Saturday, May 10 we have the Wikipedia APA edit-a-thon, in partnership with the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, from 10 AM to 5 PM.

Washington, DC meetups in June

Wikimedia DC has yet another busy month in June. Whether you're a newcomer to Wikipedia or have years of experience, we're happy to see you come. Here's what's coming up:

  • On Wednesday, June 11 from 7 to 9 PM come to the WikiSalon at the Cove co-working space. Hang out with Wikipedia enthusiasts!
  • Saturday, June 14 is the Frederick County History Edit-a-Thon from 11 AM to 4 PM. Help improve local history on Wikipedia.
  • The following Saturday, June 21, is the June Meetup. Dinner and drinks with Wikipedians!
  • Come on Tuesday, June 24 for the Wikipedia in Your Library edit-a-thon at GWU on local and LGBT history.
  • Last but not least, on Sunday, June 29 we have the Phillips Collection Edit-a-Thon in honor of the Made in America exhibit.

The Great American Wiknic and other events in July

I am pleased to announce our fourth annual picnic, the Great American Wiknic, will take place at Meridian Hill Park in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, July 13 from 1 to 5 PM (rain date: July 20). We will be hanging out by the statue of Dante Alighieri, a statue that was donated to the park in 1921 as a tribute to Italian Americans. Read more about the statue on Wikipedia. July will also feature the second annual Great American Wiknic in Frederick, Maryland. This year’s Frederick picnic will take place on Sunday, July 6 at Baker Park. Sign up here for the Frederick picnic.

What else is going on in July? We have the American Chemical Society Edit-a-Thon on Saturday, July 12, dedicated to notable chemists, and our monthly WikiSalon on Wednesday, July 16.

Wikimedia DC invites revolutionaries, free thinkers, and other sundry editors to a DC WikiSalon

The WikiSalon is a special meetup usually held during the first and third full weeks of every month, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an informal gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts, who come together to discuss Wikimedia wikis and collaboratively edit. There's no set agenda, and guests are welcome to recommend articles for the group to edit or edit on their own.

If you're coming by Metro, the closest station is Dupont Circle (on the Red Line). If you're driving, a lot of parking opens up downtown after 6:30 PM, so finding a parking space (even a free one) should be easy. Once you've found the building, go to Cove on the second floor. We will be in the conference room.

Puritan Nerd: This is not a source. You need to provide a source that lists the actual hex codes, pantone number, or RGB/CMYK. Simply saying the Athletics website is not enough. I've tried looking for Longwood's colors before, but I cannot find them.
