Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Messymarv. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Messy Marv, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Boomer VialHolla! We gonna ball! 18:28, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Messy Marv has been reverted.
Your edit here to Messy Marv was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.twitter.com/ballmyphone) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, fansite, or similar site (see 'Links to avoid', #11), then please check the information on the external site thoroughly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creator's copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 18:37, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Messy Marv. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to Messy Marv. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. —C.Fred (talk) 17:15, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify

[edit]
  1. You do not have any right of ownership or editorial control over an article, even one about you. Wikipedia is collaborative project and article content is formed by consensus.
  2. Your unpublished personal knowledge and experience is called original research, and Wikipedia does not allow that. Even if what you write is 100% true, it can't be used if it's never been published by a reliable source. See WP:VNT.
  3. As has been pointed out to you, you should not edit an article about yourself. It is reasonable to assume that you cannot easily write about yourself from the required neutral point of view. It is better for you to ask for changes on the article talk page, where an uninvolved editor can review them.
  4. You cannot fill your article with self-promotional material, shower praise upon yourself, or remove negative material that is properly sourced and neutrally worded. See WP:PROUD.
  5. Only in clear-cut cases of obvious vandalism or outright libellous content would it be acceptable for you to directly remove content. Even if you were to do so, you should note it on the article talk page. Otherwise, there are other methods to deal with problems in an article about you.

Please endeavour to abide by these points. Repeated refusal to do so, and not engaging other editors acting in good faith, will be seen as disruptive editing and dealt with accordingly. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 04:59, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
