Relentless Reversion

[edit]

If you happen to disagree with something, don't remove it and demand I petition the talk page for it's re-inclusion. Leave the info there - and petition the talk page for its removal. You don't own the Firefox and Internet Explorer articles. Don't act like you do.

Like what I said in the edit summary, you ignored my comment and that's not respecting me. You don't own the articles either, that's why in the comment I said go to talk page if you disgree with my edit. --minghong 23:46, 28 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Don't try to turn this around. If you want to remove my addition on shaky grounds, then it's your job to petition the talk page first. This discussion is over. --Beachy 22:32, 29 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How could anybody "respect" you? You are showing a petty little mind with a hidden agenda here.

Let me ask you, where are you coming from, what is your background, what experience and education do you have, what lifelong interests and mind-forming events have made you into what you are?

I think we have a right to understand where you are coming from and what agenda or interests drive you to edit wikipedia?

Roger4911 11:08, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Read my user page to know more about me. Wikipedia is a place where anyone can edit. --minghong 12:13, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You are a young person who knows some about software and manga comics. You are actively fighting for open source software and the Firefox browser.

You don't mind using ugly methods and cynical views, which is typical of young men like you.

More than once have people complained about your "relentless reversion" mania. You are not doing any good for wikipedia with your actions, you drag down the level with your ruthless actions.

Roger4911 14:40, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm out of this meaningless talk. Thess are simply personal attacks. --minghong 00:11, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well said, Roger --Beachy 22:09, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Type ???

[edit]

The ECMA specification states quite plainly that 'An object is a member of the type Object'. My current experiences with JS indicate that a thorough understanding of the relationship between the terms Type, Primitive and Object is indispensible once you start to build an OE application with it. -- Tolken.

Failure to understand the nature of typing in JS is a major reason for buggy applications...

So? What article(s) are you talking about? Or more specificly, what edit(s)? --minghong 23:56, 29 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Eh?

[edit]

Say what? "JavaScript is NOT Javascript". In what way? - Ta bu shi da yu 13:01, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

JavaScript is NOT Javascript. (Still can't see the difference? It is an uppercase "S".) - minghong 13:07, 15 Dec 2004

OS-tan pictures

[edit]
  • Hi! I noticed that you uploaded Image:Outlook-tan.png, Image:Firefox-tan.png, and Image:Thunderbird-tan.png. As part of the image tagging effort, I am trying to determine the copyright situation of those pictures. I would appreciate it if you could tell me where you got them and any copyright information that you might know. Thank you for your help. Josh 10:11, Jan 4, 2005 (UTC)
    • The images of Firefox-ko and Thunderbird-ko (edited and uploaded by me) were obtained from [1] and [2] respectively. I don't understand Japanese. But from the translation by Altavista, it should be ok to use them as long as it is not for profit: "And clearly writing the fact that they are processed ones, it can release and can distribute those which reprinting, it distributed and processed only non profit-making purpose. The writer (the ろ or the ろ) it is not necessary to state name. It is not possible without obtaining my permission, to use those which it processed for profit-making purpose. Those which it processed the writer (the ろ or the ろ) it is not possible with name to release and to distribute and." .I'm sorry but I can't find the source of Outlook one now. - minghong 12:09, 6 Jan 2004

Internet Explorer Article

[edit]

Your recent edits to the IE page have neatened it up a lot, and the article is looking in good shape these days. Keep up the good work --Beachy 13:51, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Well... I'm just trying to improve the quality of the page: something that every Wikipedian should do. That doesn't mean I'm a pro-IE guy. So you can see I also put lots of "negative" stuffs about IE. ;-) - minghong 13:56, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I never suggested you were pro-IE ;-) Beachy 14:58, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Infobox Software Template

[edit]

Please watch what you are doing. Your removal of the caption attribute has left the box with "{{{caption}}}". If you want to fix that, change the template and all the instances where the caption variable is used, though since this is a major change, I'd raise it on the template talk page first. Dysprosia 23:23, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Nah? After removing the caption attribute, I've edited all the pages that uses the Infobox Software template. Also, I'm the one who raised it on the template talk page. I've also talked to Ed g2s. Probably someone reverted my edits again. Maybe you should check the page history before complaining to me... minghong 08:37, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Yah.
Anyway, I think because you changed the template after you removed the option in the articles, and didn't purge the page from the cache, it was still using the old version and thus had the caption variable still on it. For future reference, to purge the page in the cache, so any changes to templates are brought forward, add &action=purge to the end of the url (eg http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mozilla_Firefox&action=purge ). Thanks Dysprosia 08:59, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Yup, you're right. I did that after. Thanks for your information! minghong 10:30, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Ming, your unfounded accusations and obvious hatred for Template:Infobox SoftwareProduct (note your own changes across the board in several hours) being a clone of your Template:Infobox Software couldn't be much more false. If you need further explanation I would be willing to discuss this, but your tfd within a matter of hours without any single discussion that would have ensured that you view things correctly is without warrant. I'm equally disgusted and saddened by the manner of your conduct in this regard and the way it reflects badly on the Wikipedia community. Quadra23 09:12, August 9, 2005 (GMT)
Ming, I am still waiting for your response on the Template_talk:Infobox SoftwareProduct page. Please keep in mind the purpose of SoftwareProduct is to be more well-rounded to Software as Template:Infobox Company is to companies and an attempt to provide a lot of information in a very concise and easy to expand way (note this as you read my most recent comment). I didn't edit your template because I doubt you like the word choice I used (although I believe it covers open-source and closed-source better than Template:Infobox Software -- in it's current state) and preferred to express it in another template. I await your response. Quadra23 17:00, August 12, 2005 (GMT)

Comparison of web browsers

[edit]

That's a good job on the article... Splitting tables is by no means fun, but it needed to be done. GregorB 15:01, Feb 4, 2005 (UTC)

Yup, it was actually so troublesome that I had to duplicate the table and removed the columns cell by cell... Thanks for your appreciation! --Minghong 18:17, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

RDBMS

[edit]

While I like the list of RDBMSs, and I like the new content you've added with the lists, I don't think you should have removed the small bit on Dataphor. There was some discussion about it on the talk page, and it would have been a good idea to run through that before making such a change. It wasn't placed in the article to enumerate the list of RDBMSs, but as a note it is by far the largest and most popular TRDBMS by those who make the disctinction between TRDBMSs and PRDBMSs. keep up the good work McKay 21:13, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I removed it as there is no mention of other BIG vendors (e.g. Oracle). As the article is "Relational database management system", it shouldn't focus on any particular vendor. Anyway, perhaps it should be mentioned as "it is the one and only one that meets all Codd's rules". --Minghong 21:18, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

If any of those viruses are specific to Outlook, they could go into the article, in their own "problems with this system" section? Ojw 19:24, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Maybe add it into a "criticism" or "security" section (with description about the problem). You can take a look of Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox to see how people handle this. Simply type a list of virus, trojan, etc seems to be useless. --Minghong 19:28, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

With your recent edits, the text in the boxes is not aligned properly. They should all be center aligned, not left. If your edits cannot be fixed, a revert will have to be made. Andros 1337 13:43, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

It aligns properly under Firefox. Anyway, I'll try to fix it. The same "problem" seems to appear in other software comparison pages as well [3]. You may like to take a look, get a solution, and fix all of them. --Minghong 13:47, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I fixed those issues. --Minghong 15:30, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

K-Meleon Page Zooming.

[edit]

I noticed that you've reverted my edit to the page zooming capabilties to K-Meleon. Please check out Talk:Comparison of web browsers#K-Meleon.27s crippled Page-Zooming capablities. I know that text-zooming isn't page zooming, but K-Meleon can resize both text and images if you right-click on the zoom toolbar buttons, and select "Zoom In/Out Page", or using the "Ctrl,Alt,+/-" keyboard shortcuts. The only problem is that K-Meleon appearently doesn't resize background images. The Wikipedia logo is actually a div with a background image, so it wouldn't resize.

I see. I've only tested with a page using background image. Feel free to change to "partial" then. --Minghong 11:16, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Spelling corrections

[edit]

Thanks for the thought, but it's not necessary to make spelling corrections on talk page archives. Have a nice day. --Ellmist 12:51, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Instant messenger programs

[edit]

As you created the list, see the talk page of the list of instant messaging programs. I added an instant messaging client that wasn't listed, but wasn't sure which category to put it in, so hopefully you'll have a better understanding of the situation. Hedley 02:52, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Look like "multi-protocol". I've updated the list. Minghong 08:52, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Your revert of my talk page

[edit]

I do listen do the Wikipedians and I discussed the issues already. I ask you politely not to revert my talk page again. --ThomasK 11:17, Mar 19, 2005 (UTC)

Good to see you not blanking your talk page. ;-) Minghong 11:29, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The page was never blank- open task tag is always there. ;-)--ThomasK 11:42, Mar 19, 2005 (UTC)

HKWNB, HKCOTW, Current events

[edit]

Hi. I noticed you have edited some Hong Kong-related articles. You might be interested to take a look at HK wikipedians' notice board, HK Collaboration of the Week and Current events in Hong Kong and Macao. You said you're a student from CityU in your user page. It would be nice if you can work on expanding the CityU articles, and those of other universities in Hong Kong. Happy editing! — Instantnood 12:09, Mar 21, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! I never know these pages. I'll try to improve the article if I'm familiar about that topic. :-P --Minghong 12:28, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Revert on list of RDBMS

[edit]

On List of relational database management systems, you reverted a reordering with explanation:

Well... many free DBMSes (especially MySQL) are not comparable with DBMS like Oracle

I don't understand how comparability is relevant... Please explain further to me. Thanks. Cburnett 20:39, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Maybe list of web browsers can help explain this. IMO we should put the ones with better/richer feature or greater market share on the top. Big names like Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft, etc definately deserve a higher position. Well, maybe I'm biased. Anyway, see the Category:Lists of software. You should be able to find many more lists that "Proprietary software" is listed before "Free software", e.g. list of operating systems, list of bitmap graphics editors and list of vector graphics editors. --Minghong 20:47, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

GZIP

[edit]

Hi I believe you wrote the initial gzip article. I hope you can help me. I have downloaded the Windows version: gzip.exe, and want to unzip a file 7.gz (downloaded from ttp://netlib.bell-labs.com/netlib/polyhedra/)

How do I unzip it to get a file readable ideally by an MS Office application? I have tried the following:

Run: cmd

c:/Download>gzip -d 7.gz {Note: gzip.exe and 7.gz are in c:/Download folder}

but this gives a file called 7 that is unreadable... at least, I don't know how to read it....

Thanks in advance for any help. Duncan.france 22:54, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Oops, you got it wrong. I'm not the one who initial the gzip article. I personally don't use command-line programs much. So you better just type gzip to see its manual. --minghong 06:52, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Windows managers and Tabbed document interface

[edit]

Hello. Why did you join the list of Windowsmanagers and Programs? Isnt this two different things? At least this screenshot looks alike.--Hhielscher 17:34, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Windows manager is also a program. --minghong 08:34, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Speedy delete

[edit]

The redirect page Moz firefox might well be unlikely to be used, but that's not good grounds for a speedy delete; if you want to, you can put it on Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion, but I don't really see the point. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 13:16, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

CSS Edits

[edit]

Your edits to Comparison of web browser CSS support were not very well thought out, and your comments on the talk page showed why. I have responded but I strongly advise you don't delete content from this article without discussing it first. Nicholas 10:08, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Please stop editing the selectors, removing ones that should be there. You are not helping. If you want to help me, you can fill in the properties table below. Nicholas 13:27, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Please don't revert without seeing what I've added. --minghong 13:29, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I always check, and I didn't revert anything after all. Sometimes though it is easier to revert and make the same additions than it is to change it back without reverting, but not this time sa you added lots of version numbers, which is great! :-)
I still don't really like the idea of grouping things together according to CSS level all in one table. As you know some things have been removed from CSS2.1 and 3 that were in CSS 1 and 2, and the definition of some have changed (e.g. content, :hover and :active). Before you arrived the table was exclusivly CSS2.1 - I was going to do a separate table and/or page for CSS3. The aural properties have changed considerably in CSS3, e.g. pause-before now occurs before cue-before, rather than after as it had in CSS2, and rest-before has replaced the old function of pause-before. I also think it's a bad idea to not list CSS3 selectors that are not yet implemented (or maybe they are and we haven't tested for them yet). It is useful information to know they are not implemented on any platform. Nicholas 14:09, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
What I removed are selectors that is deprecated andor unsupported. I'm sorry if my edits are bothering you. Let's discuss in the article talk page, not my talk page. :-P --minghong 14:21, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
They aren't deprecated though. Nicholas 14:24, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Oops, I mean or, not and. Typo. :-P --minghong 14:35, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for adding on to this article. It seems more solid/less likely to be replaced with the ad as more people contribute. I was going to slap a VFD tag on it, but I am trying to cultivate a more positive attitude. :) Also, the text appears in enough places on the Web that I was unsure about the copyvio. FreplySpang (talk) 20:32, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

No need to thank me. You are the one who made the first change. ;-) --minghong 20:33, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

general stuff

[edit]

Hi minghong. First, thanks for your edits to the Opera Browser article. it seriously needs work. Anyway, you have some good taste in electronics, and anime. I've never known another person who has used Jarte, and you have a lot of the freeware I use too. Also, your anime list is quite extensive. I am, though, a particular fan of the Gundam Seed series. I agree that their others were too involved. anyway, if you want any help possibly forming a temp page for Opera, let me know on my talk page, or just respond here --Zeerus (ETCWFD) 17:30, Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)

I didn't use Jarte. That page exists before. I just link to it so as to complete the list. The Opera page should be reorganized/rewritten so as to match something like... Mozilla Firefox! Obviously I'm not a fan of Opera, but I don't hate it either. I don't know much about Opera, but when the temp page is created, let me know. I'll see if I can help there. :-) P.S. The Gundam Seed (Destiny) is now a hot topic in the kuso culture. I recommend this page (a chinese version of "2ch") if you can read chinese [4]. --minghong 17:43, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
oh, okay. As far as Gundam Seed, the first season ended here in the US a week ago, and I was very disappointed. It also looks like Ghost in the Shell SAC will be ending here soon too. The newest episode is the one where Section 9 disbands, and from what I am guessing, the season is nearing its end. The banner on my cell phone actually reads GITS SAC 2GIG. Anyway, can you tell me when Destiny and 2nd GIG are slated for US release? I've seen some subbed versions of Destiny, but I didn't understand much of it. The subber barely understood Japanese, so the subtitles were all messed up. --Zeerus (ETCWFD) 17:51, Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)
I don't know then. I get the Chinese-sub from popgo. I'm sure there are some good English-sub. Just search in eMule. :-) --minghong 17:55, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
okay, thanks. I feel stupid asking this, but where can I find the sysop nomination page? I have been following your edits for a few months now, as I generally only view pages related to rock music, anime, and tech stuff. Anyway, you have made some great edits and started a ton of useful pages, and you're pretty much always on here. I would like to nominate you up for adminship, if that's okay with you? Zeerus (ETCWFD) 18:01, Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)
That would be great! Where? Ask google [5]. And here is the answer: Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. ;-)
okay, here's the page. please put a link to it on your user and talk page Requests for adminship#minghong --Zeerus (ETCWFD) 18:19, Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)

RFA

[edit]

Hello, Minghong. On your RFA, I noticed you said you were a "deletionism". Just so you know, "deletionism" refers to the philosophy; one who holds that philosophy is a "deletionist". Cheers! — Knowledge Seeker 20:33, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. I can't find the right word at that moment. :-P --minghong 00:14, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Opera

[edit]

Concerning the last edit you made to the Opera Browser page. The IP user was correct in removing that part, mainly because the statement accompanying the link was POV, aiming to boost the popularity of Firefox. I see that you put the link back on, but made sure it was NPOV. I just wanted to make sure you knew why it was removed originally. --Zeerus (ETCWFD) 20:03, Apr 29, 2005 (UTC)

Yup I know. I think that Asa is not biased. As he said in the blog post, he was also a loyal Opera user before. In term of user interface, Opera 7 is really bloated and Opera 8 is really cleaned up a lot. --minghong 20:06, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, same here. It wasn't that the link was biased, it was the statement accompanying it. I don't remember offhand, but it was mentioning features Firefox has that Opera doesn't, and it seemed very foreshadowing. Yeah, I see nothing wrong with the link. --Zeerus (ETCWFD) 20:24, Apr 29, 2005 (UTC)

You are wrong in replacing Freeware with Proprietary, the second word does not give the most important fact about the license, that it is freeware.

Think about people who come here to get the most important facts about Opera the browser, one of the important facts is that it is freeware.

The software is proprietary, the license is freeware.

"Freeware, proprietary" A good compromise.?

Roger4911 07:40, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Freeware, shareware, careware, etc aren't licenses. See list of software licenses for a list of available licenses. Netscape Navigator went free years ago, and Internet Explorer is also freeware. Yet both are marked as "proprietary software". --minghong 07:44, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You are playing with words. In real life language Opera is Freeware, it calls itself freeware and is talked about generally as freeware.

In an encyclopedia you should use normal language and write down the most important facts about something. You seem like you are trying to hide the most important fact about the license of Opera.

Roger4911 07:59, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well... you don't seem to get it. I'm not anti-Opera. Don't you see the examples like IE and Netscape? Freeware is a way to distribute software, not a type of license. If you open the license file of Opera, you don't find the word "freeware". Maybe we need a new attribute in the infobox: cost. A proprietary software that costs nothing means freeware. --minghong 09:28, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Tasman

[edit]

Tasman (layout engine) Done. AlistairMcMillan 15:18, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RFA (no consensus reached)

[edit]

Hi minghong, sorry your nomination for adminship failed. I tried my best, but people just weren't voting. I think it was your mention of deletionism that turned them off. Anyway, the beurocrats decided the vote was too close to reach a clear decision, so they dropped it after an extended time of 24 hours, but I'm sure you know all about that stuff. Anyway, I'll try nominating you again in a few months, see how that goes. --Zeerus (ETCWFD) 12:19, May 4, 2005 (UTC)

Alright. I should answer the questions better next time. :-P --minghong 12:58, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, yeah. Also, I just completely redid the article on Dave Shea. I'm not sure just how into CSS you are, but I thought this might interest you. Apparently the page was up for deletion at one time, and it was just a blank page when I found it.

Criticisms of Mozilla Firefox

[edit]

I laid out my criticism of the article on the talk page like you requested, but you haven't shown up there (even though you reverted the article). What gives? silsor 12:37, May 8, 2005 (UTC)

The change I made is exactly what you mentioned in the talk page. And critism is not comparison. That's why it was reverted. --minghong 14:04, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
"The change I made is exactly what you mentioned in the talk page" - in fact, you completely reverted all my changes to the article (twenty or more discrete corrections), then repaired several of them and left the others. This is not "exactly what I mentioned on the talk page", since I laid out every one of the corrections I made on the talk page. With regards to the other issue you mention, "criticism is not comparison", that refers to only one of the edits I made to the page - in fact it was the last one - yet you reverted that along with the 23 other edits I had made to the page. Please respond on the talk page of the article. silsor 12:06, May 11, 2005 (UTC)

Golden Forum

[edit]

I read from your user page that you're a computer science major. I'd like to know if you'd be interested to help rewrite the Golden Forum article, which is now nominated for deletion. — Instantnood 15:01, May 18, 2005 (UTC)

LOL. Sorry that I never visit Golden Forum. Probably not that notable in an English Wikipedia. ;-) --minghong 15:13, 18 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Me neither. But I guess it's notable to have an entry. Language should not be a barrier to anything. — Instantnood 15:56, May 18, 2005 (UTC)

How did you...

[edit]

Sorry if I'm being rude, but HOW did you appear all over the wikipedia, I saw you like, you have edits on history on almost every article I went to. Do you spend 80% of the time on Wikipedia or something? --Yamamoto Ichiro 02:35, 21 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm currently unemployed. So spend some time on something meaningful. :-P --minghong 06:51, 21 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Unemployed .. hence the reliance on OSS and lack of repsect for commercial sofware? --Beachy 22:15, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Don't speak like baka. I'm now working as a programmer. See my talk page if you care. --minghong 06:15, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

MP4Box

[edit]

Why remove it from the see also section of DivX/XviD? EliasAlucard|Talk 12:37, 24 May, 2005 (UTC)

Why should we list every single MPEG-4 software there? --minghong 10:40, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't hurt, and MP4Box is really good for producing fully MPEG-4 ISO compliant *.mp4 files. Besides, these are all very heavily related.
EliasAlucard|Talk 12:44, 24 May, 2005 (UTC)
No. It hurts. Why is MP4BOX a special case? There are TONS of software/hardware that can deal with MPEG-4. --minghong 10:46, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Whether it hurts or not is an opinion :D But MP4Box is becoming very popular now on Doom9, and not every MPEG-4 software has its own article on Wikipedia. Many GUIs are created for MP4Box, and lots of users are asking/requesting new features for MP4Box.
EliasAlucard|Talk 12:53, 24 May, 2005 (UTC)
Then list it in list of video editing software, but don't spam every single codec because this software support this. e.g. Did you see Mozilla Firefox in the HTML article's "see also" section? No. Because this is NOT what "see also" mean to be. --minghong

Video Editing

Sorry for not signing. Can I ask why you took off the {Video Editing} on the NLE pages ? Kushboy 16:56, 24 May 2005

[edit]

I noticed that you changed several dates of the format "May 2005" to "May 2005" (unlinkified the year). However, the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers), states that the former is recommended. — 86.135.74.152 17:43, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. Only a complete date (with year, month and day) need to be linkified so that the date can be converted in a format specified by the user. Partial date doesn't need to be linkified. --minghong 17:53, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That's all well and good but the style guidelines recommend that dates with just a month and year should have the year linkified. There's no real justification for changing dates formatted in this way to something else. — 86.135.74.152 21:17, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Are you interested? I hope to get info on Microsoft related topics up2date, accurate and presented neutrally. - Ta bu shi da yu 02:35, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hey, why did you remove the div tag?

[edit]

Notes, as in most publications, should be a smaller font size. I don't want to get into a revert war about something so silly, so I'm messaging you. - Ta bu shi da yu 02:38, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

That seems ugly... and other pages that uses footnotes don't use div like that... --minghong 11:36, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

lots of edits, not an admin

[edit]

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. Since you've been previously nominated I added an '*' immediately before your name in this list. If for any reason you're NOT interested, my apologies and please remove the '*' (you could entirely remove yourself from the list also, if you'd like). I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 18:34, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)

I have no problem with that. Thank you! --minghong 01:33, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi -- Since you've worked on the Inkscape article, I thought you might be interested in the fact that the Bryce Harrington article is up for deletion.--Bcrowell 03:40, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Main/Seemain changes

[edit]

I don't know how the update affected <div>, so I assume you know what you're doing in removing them. However, your edits also removed comments which are intended to help bots identify usage of the templates despite subst: usage. Please don't do that. (SEWilco 28 June 2005 06:27 (UTC))

I was just trying to avoid using HTML in Wikipedia. We should use Wiki syntax at all time. --minghong 28 June 2005 11:34 (UTC)
I believe comments are Wiki syntax which happen to match HTML syntax. Also you should expect templates to contain unusual content, as one of their purposes is to isolate incantations which may need to be adjusted. Templates being used to present particular information may be tuned to that information, such as telling a browser to use a style oriented toward headlines or infoboxes. Just saying "Hello"

[edit]

Hi Martin. I've seen your name on Wikipedia before, as we edit a lot of the same articles. Then recently, while reading Adot's Notblog*, I saw your name there. I also noticed that you have a .f2g.net website, just like me. So, anyway, I'm just stopping by to say hello, and make note of the odd fact that we have coexisted in three different Internet communities and never bumped into eachother before. --taestell June 30, 2005 02:30 (UTC)

LOL. By the way, your site is blank. I wonder why… --minghong 30 June 2005 04:51 (UTC)

Hi Minghong! I want to ask your opinion about some dispute that occured on Limewire page. User:Tannin changed the definition of Limewire from program to Spyware, he also classified Limewire as a Spyware in Category:Spyware. Currently Limewire doesn't include any spyware, but he say that we should classify it as spyware and define it as spyware because it included spyware components in the past. What you think about this ? Vorash 4 July 2005 14:25 (UTC)

Hi! I don't know anything about this software. But according to your explanation, it doesn't seem to be a spyware. --minghong 4 July 2005 15:29 (UTC)

Ampshed

[edit]

I have never heard the term ampshed for asterisk before. Is it a local term in your circle? Jordi· 01:08, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I meant "ampersand", which is wrong either. LOL. --minghong 04:54, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Drat. I was hoping for another amusing name for a character (gotta love those bangs, hashes, interrobangs etc.)! Jordi· 00:24, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Date format

[edit]

There's no point in going through an article changing the format of wikilinked dates from DD MMM YYYY to MMM DD, YYYY. The formatting of dates is controlled by an individual's preferences. If you want dates to display as "July 17, 2005" instead of "17 July 2005", just change your own settings, not the article content.

That's not the only purpose of that edit: I remove duplicated links as well. And even through the date format can be controlled by user preference, we should take care of non-wikipedians and make the article more consistent (parts of the article were using MDY while other parts were using DMY). --minghong 12:34, 17 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, you reverted my table... am I right in understanding that you think the that article should have no descriptive value? You stated, "keep detail in comparison page"... which, seems like creating a comparison page would be incredibly redundant. Considering a few of them do not have have wikipedia pages it makes their entries completely useless... I believe that system makes sense for a cumbersome subject like operating systems, however for this... not exactly. gren 17:35, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just like the separation of style and content, I don't think it would be "incredibly redundant". --minghong 00:13, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

F2G.net update

[edit]

From cp.f2g.net:

The free hosting service is undergoing a Denial Of Service (DOS) attack since Thursday 28th. As a result, free accounts may be unreachable (host not found/timeout error). Please do not report this as an error since we are aware of the attack.
A DOS attack occurs when an attacker deliberately sends a huge amount of requests to a web server it order to make it unavailable. The free hosting service is not protected against this so the websites should remain unreachable as long as the attack lasts. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial_of_service for further details about DOS attacks.
Premium hosting accounts are not affected.

Hey, at least they link to Wikipedia! --taestell 04:46, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

Yup. I'm aware of this as well. Those attackers are just too annoying. --minghong 11:51, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mozilla 1.7.11

[edit]

I did not mixed it up, there it is and the changelog. --ThomasK 14:12, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

But it isn't listed in http://www.mozilla.org/releases/ yet, so it's better to wait for the official announcement from mozilla.org. --minghong 14:47, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mozilla Corporation

[edit]

Right now, the Mozilla Corporation is only "productizing" Firefox and Thunderbird. Here's a quote from the briefing I was in: "Right now we productize Firefox andd Thunderbird, I would guess that will be the continued state of things with the corporation." This may change in the future but at the moment it's only Firefox and Thunderbird that fall under the remit of the Corporation. Everything else (Camino, SeaMonkey, whatever) stays under the Foundation. - 81.174.247.96 15:31, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Don't be so short-sighted. The article should be based on the written fact (listed in the reference section). There is nothing to argue. --minghong 16:05, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

List of JavaScript engines

[edit]

I find it strange that you reverted a precision I added about SpiderMonkey being the official JavaScript language, from Mozilla Foundation, derived from original Netscape lineage in the article List of JavaScript engines:

By curiosity, in your opinion, what is wrong with this statement? JavaScript was started by Brendan Eich when working at Netscape and Mozilla SpiderMonkey results from that work. (also see notes on Talk:List_of_JavaScript_engines).

Thanks,

--66.11.179.30 06:01, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Internet Explorer 7b1 screenshot

[edit]

Would you mind replacing the current screenshot with the one showing Wikipedia mainpage? Thanks. --minghong 18:24, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I see no reason for adding IE10 screenshot to History of Internet Explorer, there're already too many at the top there. I'm now planning to add an IE20 screenshot (it currently has no IE2x screenshots), and it will have absolutley no space to fit in.

Would you be kind enough to remove IE10 screenshot you added to History of Internet Explorer? It doesn't have to link to any and all IE screenshots uploaded to Wikipedia, IMO. --tyomitch 15:31, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This is an article about the detail history of IE. So I think it deserves a place here. FYI, the image is not created by me. I just copy it from the IE article to here. --minghong 00:03, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That's obvious, because this image is created by me ;-) Just when there will be enough text to place all the images, it can be moved back into the article. I now added IE20 screenshot, I think it deserves the place more. See also WP:IUP#Image queuing, I've also posted that link to Talk:History_of_Internet_Explorer. --tyomitch 05:14, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Also isn't it better at least to add link to Internet Explorer for Mac from History of Internet Explorer? Currently the text doesn't say "It's all about Windows, for Mac go here", although it has to. --tyomitch 15:37, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed.
Ugh, there's a template explicitly for this purpose... Changed text to use the template.

SVG Support, Partial

[edit]

Minghong, I had a question about what you consider "partial" SVG support. On Comparison of layout engines (graphics) you have marked Gecko as partially supporting SVGT, B and Full. I agree with this because Mozilla SVG project has stated that they don't yet support some modules (animation being the biggest one). Question is whether Opera carries true 100% support of the SVG-T 1.1 Spec. For instance: The SVG-T spec states that all conforming SVG viewers are required to display SVG anywhere they display raster, for instance in CSS background-image. Opera 8 does not support this (I have filed bug reports though).

I guess I'm just having trouble distinguishing between "partial support", "100% support with bugs" and true "100% support" (which is an ideal but nearly impossible to achieve). By the strictest definition, no one (not even Adobe SVG Viewer) truly supports any SVG spec 100% yet. SVG is a highly complex spec and true 100% conformance might never be achievable, we'll always have bugs and things missed. Yet SVG is still quite usable in Opera and in Mozilla and in Adobe SVG Viewer...I just don't want to give the wrong impression to SVG users on whichever way we decide. Sorry if this is rambling, just thought I'd see your thoughts. Jeff schiller 19:19, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Opera was marked not in "Partial" because it claims to fully support SVGT/B (1.0?). I think it at least completed all the modules required by the spec, right? If Mozilla complete all the modules required, then I think it will be ok to mark with version number (no matter there are bugs or not in its implementation). --minghong 03:54, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You restored version 4's image

[edit]

What's the point in displaying it twice on a page? --tyomitch 06:15, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well. The article looks like missing something if it is removed. --minghong 09:07, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Is it possible to replace it with some other screenshot, say NN on a Mac? I really can't see why readers should download the same image twice (it has different sizes in its two occurences). Or maybe resize the top image to match all the others? --tyomitch 13:13, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Unless you express your opinion on this, I'm changing the bottom image to Image:MainPage-Netscape4macfixed-brion.png. --tyomitch 11:47, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Comma in dates

[edit]

You don't have to insert a comma between date and year – it's inserted automatically. E.g.: January 1 1900 – there's no comma in the markup here, but it's displayed. --tyomitch 11:44, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip. :-) --minghong 14:35, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
