Editing to Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh wiki page

Hi I am quite new to Wiki editing and contributions, so please bear with me. Regarding your comment on my editing to change the name from Rajneesh to Osho. I am not sure what is usual on Wiki, but in normal life, when a person changes their name the new name supersedes the old. E.g. Marilyn Monroe not Norma Jeane Mortensen, Joseph Stalin not Ioseb Besarionis je Zhugshvili, or when a woman changes her name by marriage. I agree that the personage in question should still be refereed to as Rajneesh in quotes (as they were published like that), but in all other contexts his last name and the name under which all his works are now published. To refer to someone by a name they no longer used is disrespectful, and seems to be prejudiced to me and not at all neutral. Otherwise I found the tone of the article to be quite balanced with pro and anti views. However throughout the article half the time his name was given as Rajneesh and half the time as Osho. So I want consistency and my editing brings clarity. Sarovara (talk) 19:28, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree (and you may want to check with Nizil, who wants to take the article to GA and (hopefully) FA). The article's subject, IMO, is much better known in independent RS (including in the U.S., with which I'm most familiar) as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (the article's title). When I began the copyedit, I was disoriented by the exclusive references to "Osho" (including the infobox, whose caption differed from the article's title) until I realized that Rajneesh = Osho. However, according to the naming convention cited on the talk page we shouldn't use names retroactively (which is why I changed pre-1996 Mumbai and Pune to Bombay and Poona). While I agree that Rajneesh has been Osho since late 1988 (including, obviously, since his death), before then he was...well, Rajneesh (including his best-known—or most-notorious, depending on your POV—period). Changing names of units

Thanks for you interest in copyediting the Battle of Beersheba. However, you should stop changing the names of units e.g. from guns to machine guns and its the Anzac Mounted Division not an army corps. Thanks --Rskp (talk) 02:09, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

I'm copyediting the article not because of any particular interest, but because it's been on WP:GOCE/REQ for a long time (probably due to its length :-)). I don't remember making the changes you mention (and there are several editors besides me working on the article); I wikilink terms I don't understand, and since ANZAC is an acronym I capitalize it (as is the case with the articles about the units). You may want to check the diffs to see who's doing what. Miniapolis 14:38, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

[moved from my talk page, just to keep it all together]

Since you seem dissatisfied with my work (although the prose, frankly, is dense-to-impenetrable), I'll be happy to stop copyediting (and remove the article from WP:GOCE/REQ) if you wish; however, I can't help wondering why you requested a copyedit in the first place. All the best, Miniapolis 19:09, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
I'm sorry if I have wrongly accused you of anything. Yes its a bit confusing when two other editors want to join in your copyedit. However, I do check each edit individually, so I know precisely who is doing what. If you look at the View History of this article you will see all my responses relate to the particular edit.

No, I am not in the slightest dissatisfied with your work. In fact I very much admire you and your colleagues in the Guild for the fantastic work you do to improve the quality of Wikipedia. I made the above comments about the heavy guns being linked to heavy machine guns because it introduced different information to that given in the sources and reflected in the article. I appreciate that there is a redirect from heavy guns to the heavy machine gun article so I understand why you made the link, but its wrong. The Anzac Mounted Division is not the army corps. It has been agreed on the MILHIST discussion page twice that the block capitals are wrong, in this instance, when it refers to the Anzac Mounted Division. As I have corrected this name twice, I realised you didn't get the message and so contacted you on your talk page, after correcting the name for a third time, to explain.

I hope that you will continue to edit this article, but I would appreciate it if you don't change the substance of the article, nor the names of the units involved. --Rskp (talk) 00:00, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Just finished the copyedit and tagged the talk page. Sorry about the ANZAC business; I know it's an acronym, and double-checked the articles on the military units (which are capitalized) before changing the spelling. What I did was a copyedit, pure and simple; since I don't have the required expertise, I wouldn't presume to change the factual stuff. Good luck with GA and all the best, Miniapolis 00:06, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks a lot, and all the best to you, --Rskp (talk) 00:19, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
I thought you might be interested in Gallipoli Campaign#Aftermath In the Subsequent operations subsection you will find that the ANZAC was disbanded in mid 1916. The Anzac Mounted Division was actually called the Australian and New Zealand Mounted Division. The use of this name could lead to confusion with the Australian Mounted Division so its more widely known as the Anzac Mounted Division. Another reason the using of "Anzac" is honoured is because apart from reinforcements, all the Australian and New Zealand men in the division survived the Gallipoli Campaign.--Rskp (talk) 02:39, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
Didn't know that; I just saw the consensus opposition to the page move. IMO, "ANZAC" is an acronym which has long been in widespread use; "Anzac" does not take that into account. Guess we'll have to agree to disagree :-). All the best, Miniapolis 13:20, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Oops!

Oops! I wasn't knowing about the July drive. I was thinking to expand What's Your Raashee? But, due to a busy schedule, I wasn't able to do so. I was thinking to replace it with Aitraaz but, saw you already copy-edited. I know you don't accept direct request but, could you please accept Aitraaz to copy edit after that list. Please, it would mean a lot if you can accept. Plus, it's a small article and it will take only one day!—Prashant 17:20, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Request

Hey Miniapolis! Well I nominated Kaminey for GA last month and is currently being reviewed by Dr. Blofeld. He has demanded a thorough copy edit and prose condensing. It's very interstating article and one of the most important films of Indian cinema. Can you help. He has given me a time of 2 weeks that I should get someone to Copy edit it.—Prashant 08:31, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry—please read the top of my talk page, and list it on WP:GOCE/REQ. Surely you've been around long enough to know that the copyedit should be done before the GAN, to avoid these problems. Please play by the rules, and stop trying to elbow your way to the front of the line; everyone else wants their copyedit as much as you do. Keep this in mind for your next GAN. All the best, Miniapolis 13:44, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

My first copy-edit

Greetings. I note that you are a copy-editing mentor, so I thought I'd ask for your input. I'm a long-time Wikipedian, and I frequently perform GAN and FAC reviews, but I've never done any copy-editing for GOCE until today. My first foray was Bangladeshis in India, with my comments left at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests#Bangladeshis in India. So how'd I do? Was I too detailed, or not thorough enough? Did I overstep the bounds of what a copy-editor is expected to do? Thanks for any feedback, – Quadell (talk) 15:01, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Looks like you did a great job; a very useful guide (in fact, I have to read it as a refresher) is WP:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/How to/Step by step guide, which explains what we should do and what we can leave to another editor. As a GAN and FAC reviewer, you already have good instincts and we can sure use your experience! Thanks for your help and all the best, Miniapolis 16:23, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm reading over that now. Is there anything I need to do at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests to archive it? I'm not sure how that's done. Also, is there some standard way of notifying the requester, or of making my suggestions known on the talk page? Or is that handled ad-hoc? – Quadell (talk) 16:47, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Most copyeditors use {{Done}} under the request to alert the GOCE coordiinators (or whoever is passing through with time on their hands :-)) that it needs to be archived (there's a link to the 2013 archive on the top right of the requests page, with instructions in the archive edit window if you want to DIY; if you're familiar with table syntax, it's easy). After it's archived (by you or someone else), the section on the request page for the specific article is blanked. All the best, Miniapolis 17:14, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your copy edit, I appreciate it! I'm very pleased with the corrections, and look forward to soon bring this article to FAC. WikiRedactor (talk) 19:29, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Glad to help! Good luck with FA and all the best, Miniapolis 20:09, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

I should have said thanks for your support sooner. ```Buster Seven Talk 03:26, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

No thanks needed, Buster; I call 'em as I see 'em :-). RFA is a nasty business; candidates are not promoted who would be good with the mop, and sometimes a candidate breezes through who later self-destructs. I'm glad to see you still around; it's so tempting to take a long wikibreak under the circumstances. Hope to plus-one you again. All the best, Miniapolis 14:32, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
