Benoy K Behl promotion

[edit]

Please stop. If you continue spamming Wikipedia, you will be blocked from editing.
Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.
Hello, Mitra2412. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.--Hu12 (talk) 10:18, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your Userpage Deleted as Advertising

[edit]

Your userpage is not to be used as advertising or promotion as a pseudo-article. Remember that Wikipedia is not a social network like Twitter or Facebook. You may not host your own website, blog, wiki, or cloud at Wikipedia. Your userpage is for anything that is compatible with the Wikipedia project. It is a mistake to think of it as a homepage: Wikipedia is not a blog, webspace provider, or social networking site. Please see Wikipedia:Introduction and Wikipedia:User page for more information. Thanks.--Hu12 (talk) 10:53, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last warning. The next time you insert a spam link, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. —SpacemanSpiff 05:26, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for adding spam links. Persistent spammers will have their websites blacklisted from Wikipedia and potentially penalized by search engines. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. —SpacemanSpiff 05:35, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

This is not actually spamming. I had seen many useful articles published by various websites, written by Mr. Benoy K Behl. I thought these were useful contributions to the subjects. In fact, there is not enough information available about most of these subjects and this should be a positive contribution. However, I am new to editing in Wikipedia and have now taken care to read all the guidelines again. You will not have a reason to block me again. Thanks.Mitra2412 (talk) 08:17, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One open unblock request at a time, please. — Daniel Case (talk) 16:19, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

So far your only point of interest on Wikipedia had been this person and his website. It is apparent that you have a conflict of interest regarding him, so one of unblock conditions will likely be a cessation of all edits related to Benoy K Behl. Knowing this, are you interested in doing something else on Wikipedia? Max Semenik (talk) 08:23, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Thank you for yours. In fact, I have learn t a great deal from work and publications of Mr. Benoy K Behl. His films are shown and he gives lectures at least once every month here in New Delhi at the most prestigious institutions. There are hundreds of people who admire his work and come for these screenings and lectures. I thought that his work and thoughts should be much better known. In this process, there would be good knowledge put across about the culture and ancient art of India. All the information which I gathered is fully factual. He is the only Indian about whom the American National Geographic Magazine have done a large story, which would give you an idea about the importance of his work. Do you have any objection to factual information about this work and person being put in Wikipedia? Thanks and best regards.Mitra2412 (talk) 08:17, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would be willing to unblock you under the condition that you agree to never again link to Behl's site or anything he has written, and, when writing about him, only ever include information that is verified by independent reliable sources (that means, you can't use his own writing or speeches as a source, or other blogs, etc.). Are you willing to follow these requirements? If so, I will contact the blocking admin and see what he says. Qwyrxian (talk) 14:39, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As an uninvolved admin I would concur with these conditions for unblock; no use of his writings or speeches, and no link to him or his pages. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:58, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am perfectly willing to only use writings which are from other verifiable sources and to follow all the points which you have mentioned. Frontline is one of the oldest and most respected magazines in India. I hope you will allow me to give links to Benoy K Behl's writings which are published by Frontline. You may search and check that Frontline are among the very most authentic and important magazine publishers of India. Thanks very much for your guidance.

It is clear from your explanations that your sole intent is promotion. Wikipedia is not a medium to promote or publicize anyone or anything. ~Amatulić (talk) 15:29, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're not getting it. Wikipedia isn't here to provide links to things Behl has written. Period. While, if his articles are WP:RS (for example, if they're opinion pieces, they wouldn't be, no matter who publishes them), then they could be used to verify things in other articles, but the Behl article itself certainly wouldn't need those. And the fact that you seem to be trying to find any way possible to link to as much as possible makes me think that you're not here to make this a better encyclopedia, but to promote Behl. Request reason:

I believe it has taken me some times to understand the exact policies of Wikipedia and also to understand that you have to be extremely cautious in your scrutiny of all who add information on Wikipedia. I understand what you say and will do accordingly now. To understand that whatever I have been doing was only to improve the encyclopedia's knowledge base about a very prominent writer, Art historian and filmmaker, who is profoundly affecting the understanding of Indian and Asian art and culture. I will only do what Wikipedia has suggested. Thanks

I fixed your template above. I'm on the fence myself; I'll let another admin take a look. Qwyrxian (talk) 07:25, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not entirely clear what you mean by "what Wikipedia has suggested." I'd be fine unblocking you under the terms proposed above, specifically "you agree to never again link to Behl's site or anything he has written, and, when writing about him, only ever include information that is verified by independent reliable sources". Are you open to those terms? Hersfold non-admin(t/a/c) 15:45, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
