Thank you for quality articles such as John B. Magruder and Pizzagate conspiracy theory, for contributions at the help desk, for expanding and sourcing stubs, for fighting vandalism, for welcoming new users and missing, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

HOLY CRAP! I can’t believe I got one... Thank you very much, Greda! (Although it should be mentioned that TGS did most of the work on John Mugrader and I continued the nomination after they were banned because I didn’t want their work to go to waste)💵Money💵emoji💵💸 23:55, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Industry in Syracuse, New York

Hello Money emoji. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Industry in Syracuse, New York, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not an unambiguous copyright infringement, or there is other content to save. Thank you. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 23:53, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Nconwaymicelli

Hi! It'd be just great if you were able to make some headway with this monster CCI. I tried a bit, and found it unbelievably time-consuming – a huge number of small edits, and a lot of splitting/moving of content. What I'm now fully convinced of is that we can't trust one word of his running text to be copyvio-free. Speedy deletion isn't a good option for a page like the one above, with a long history and contributions from other editors too. In that particular case there is also a (probably) clean version (the very first) that could be reverted to, so speedy wouldn't apply. Unless you are able to revert to before his first edit, blanking and listing at WP:CP is probably the best move; unless it's been rewritten, any page listed there may be deleted after a week if that's appropriate. I'm happy to try to help/advise at any time. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:18, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

Thanks a ton for the advice, Jlsn. I'm currently trying to clear out all CCIs (Because I think that would be cool) and the Nconwaymicelli seems to be the worst one. I'll try to get it cleared out though, because it would be pretty cool If I did. (Also can you archive Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/BeeCeePhoto Since I cleared it out? Again, Thanks a lot.💵Money💵emoji💵💸 15:29, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

salt potatoes RD1

I'm looking at your RD1 request for salt potatoes. the earliest edit appears to be this one on 10 November 2010.

However the source was captured by the Internet archive in March 2012. How did you conclude that the source material was written prior to the Wikipedia article? (I do see the copyright notice at the bottom of the page has a range of dates 2004 – 2011, but I don't think I can use that to draw any conclusions about when this specific material was added to the site.)--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:19, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

@Sphilbrick: Scanning the article using earwig's copyvio detector, I found a sentence near the top of the page while looking at the comparison that said "Syracuse Salt Potatoes Sides Add comments Oct 15 2007 Syracuse Salt Potatoes" This lead me to believe that was when the recipe/article was published, so I removed the content accordingly and tagged the diffs for revdel. If I'm understanding how the Internet Archive works, it "saves" domains after they "die", so I assumed the the "March 2012" was just the month it was saved. If I'm wrong/incorrect somehow, I'd be happy to hear, since I'm just starting to wade into the realm of copyvios.💵Money💵emoji💵💸 21:29, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
(edit conflict) (talk page watcher) Sphilbrick, see here (also, the probable year and month of creation, 2007/10, are part of the more recent url). Money emoji, in an article like this where there is an (apparently) clean version before Nconwaymicelli's first edit, I think the only safe thing to do is to revert to that version; an exception would be if you can see a clearly-defined block of text added by him which you can cleanly remove while leaving the other content intact. In cases where – as here – he has repeatedly copy-edited the text, we just have to make sure we remove every single word he added (unless it is really minimal and demonstrably different from the cited source, as in some of the motor-car pages). However, before I go ahead and do that, I'm going to ask Sphilbrick if he agrees with this advice? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:38, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, jln. The funny thing is, my dumbass that you can just click the "restore this revision" button, so I'll make sure to use that when dealing with issues like this in the future.💵Money💵emoji💵💸 00:45, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
That works; or you can load the old revision, hit "edit", ignore the warning and save with a suitable edit summary. Just in case it ever happens to you: if you do that with a biography, you'll often have to do it twice over – an old template (persondata) triggers an edit filter and won't let you save unless you try a second time. Thank you so much for working on this! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:11, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Justlettersandnumbers, I am now convinced. the link I looked at to the Internet archive didn't have an entry prior to the date of the Wikipedia article which is why I was concerned. Now that I see an entry dating to 2008, it's a reasonable conclusion that the article was copied from elsewhere. S Philbrick(Talk) 14:07, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Money emoji, I have now completed the RD1. Thanks for your diligence. S Philbrick(Talk) 14:10, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

salomon's house and copyright

Marvelhouse words (talk) 08:13, 25 April 2019 (UTC) Hi Money emoji, and thank you for your message. I'm very new here so still working out te (rather opaque) system.

With regards the text I uploaded to the page Salomon's house, I see your point. I have two replies and one request.

1. Good work in spotting it (the Literary encyclopedia, I believe).

2. I wrote it, and I'm pretty sure Lit Enc entries belong to the writer. (correction. This appears to have changed).

3. Damn I hate rapacious publishers.

(I love being pulled up for copying myself, but then that's the modern world)

I'll rejigger it suitably. At some point when I have the time.

On this matter in general, ought I register somewhere here my interest (as in, my interest and knowledge on Bacon)? I can't for the life of me work out this sandbox businss, and lack patience with things that don't offer themselves immediately (when that's their job).

Thank you in advance,

(apologies if I sign out wrong, btw)

Marvelhouse words

@Marvelhouse words: Thanks for coming here and explaining the situation. For your question about Sandboxes, here's a simple explanation: You can create a sandbox as a subpage of your user page, like User:Marvelhouse words/sandbox. Aside from material that would be considered advertising, disruptive, musings unrelated to wikipedia, or a copyright violation, you are allowed to write whatever you want whatever you want in it. Again, thanks for coming here, and feel free to ask questions.💵Money💵emoji💵💸 11:55, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Copyright

This is not how copyright works.[1] If you've been adding this to other articles, please go back and make sure the copyright violations have been removed. Natureium (talk) 19:52, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

@Natureium: Yes, I know. I would not have ever done that on a main space article, and in hindsight I’m not sure why I did it on the draft. (I think I was trying to make an admin viewing the copyvio csd i placed aware of what the user had claimed on the talk page, but they would have seen it anyway if they were doing there job correctly, making it unessecary) But yes, I know you can’t just put some bolded text on an article and say “yeah it’s copyright but uh it’s not lol”. I have never done this with any article, and apologize for any hassle I created in putting the faux notice on the page.💵Money💵emoji💵💸 20:08, 25 April 2019 (UTC)
Haha, no problem. People do some very strange things on wikipedia, so I wanted to make sure. Natureium (talk) 20:10, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Copy Patrol

I know you've been helping out with CCI's for which I thank you.

It's my opinion that of all the copyright tasks, the CCI's tend to be the toughest, mainly because they often are fairly dated and a lot of the material shows up in Wikipedia forks and mirrors, so watching out for false positives is important. In addition, sometimes the original source material is no longer directly available on the net so you have to resort to the Internet archive which you have where do use very well.

You mentioned recently that you do not have access to the Internet archive, so that may hamper your ability to work on CCI's.

Can I tempt you to help out at Copy Patrol?

That's a relatively new tool that identifies potential copyright violations in real time.

One advantage of working on these as opposed to CCI's, is that the edits typically happened within the last few hours, so access to the Internet archive is almost never an issue.

One important thing to be aware of is that the tool doesn't look for matches within Wikipedia itself, so there are often false positives when someone copies material from one Wikipedia article to another. The tool may pick up a match to a mirror and it may look like a copyright violation but in fact it might be a legitimate Wikipedia. (In theory, editors are supposed to note this in the edit summary but many do not know the rules.)

There are a small handful of us active in this area, but I have to cut back a bit because I need to do more work in OTRS so I'm going to have to cut back on the number I can handle each day.

I recently left a post with Diannaa, who handles more than anyone else, and she suggested reaching out to some people who have contributed in the past. I don't think you've been part of copy patrol but I thought of you as someone with copyright experience.S Philbrick(Talk) 19:19, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

@Sphilbrick: (sorry it took a bit to get back to you) thanks a lot for the compliments and the offer, I'll gladly use the tool while I'm sorting out the issue with the Internet Archive💵Money💵emoji💵💸 11:24, 24 April 2019 (UTC)

Money emoji, Great! S Philbrick(Talk) 12:01, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) Money emoji, just out of curiosity, what's the problem with the internet archive? Are you getting an error message when you try to load the page? I'm asking because I had, and have fixed, such an error; I might even be able to remember how I did it. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:00, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
@Justlettersandnumbers: No, its far stupider than that; My workplace installed a wifi thing that blocks sites, and Archive.org was one of them, for seemingly no reason (Facepalm Facepalm). I'm currently trying to get it added to a white list.💵Money💵emoji💵💸 13:05, 24 April 2019 (UTC)

I'm not seeing the text at this site.

What am I missing?--S Philbrick(Talk) 18:37, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

@Sphilbrick: Yeah, I think I got the wrong url. The copy patrol report shows more than one URL, and they all looked similar, so I assumed that it wouldn't matter which one I choose, but I guess it did since two of them just seem to redirect to the websites mainpage, and only one of them (this one: https://www.tesla-pv.com/about-us/) shows the copied text. My bad, I should have clicked on all of them to make sure.💵Money💵emoji💵💸 18:55, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

I'd looked at that mess 5 years ago, when I first started to work on school articles, and just threw up my hands.
