Module:Language/data/iana languages

[edit]

Can you null edit the last few transclusions of Module:Language/data/iana languages? They are .css and .js pages so I can't do it. Gonnym (talk) 18:59, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot. For that you will need the owner or an interface admin.

Izno might be willing to do it. (cf previous thread) – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:16, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Monkbot

[edit]

Blanked the whole of Talk:Red-winged blackbird. I've reverted it. - UtherSRG (talk) 21:48, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. It's a sufficiently rare, intermittent bug in AWB that it has never been fixed.
Trappist the monk (talk) 22:04, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I remember you saying that it occurs after a sufficiently large # of edits have been made. Is that still the going hypothesis? If so, would clearing the "Logs" tab and/or Tools > "Reset save/skipped counts" help?   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  15:07, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For this particular case, the bot hadn't been running all that long. I don't know that clearing the logs tab is helpful. I do know that clearing the logs speeds thing up. Apparently, as the log grows, it takes longer and longer to add a logged event so I routinely clear logs after some number > 1000 logged events. If save/skipped counts isn't maintained locally then, that might be something to think about routinely clearing.

Settings (again)

[edit]

Having tinkered with my settings before you explained what was wrong, I'm getting yellow borders around the former last edit and blue ones around a new edit. I've tried to restore the old setting but can't find it. Can you help please? Regards Keith-264 (talk) 19:42, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are you talking about the WP:DIFF view? If so, that coloring seems normal to me.
Trappist the monk (talk) 19:49, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's the one, I didn't have that before, I must have inadvertently changed a setting. Keith-264 (talk) 20:12, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How do I get rid of it? Regards Keith-264 (talk) 08:16, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was only able to tell you about the highlighting because I've used it in the past. I scanned through my Special:Preferences and didn't find anything that would permanently display the diff view while editing. You might want to ask at WP:Help desk because there are editors there who are probably more familiar with all of the plethora of ways that the editors can be configured. Besure to tell them which editor you are using, which skin you use, which browser you use, your device's operating system, and if you see the same display when logged out.
Trappist the monk (talk) 12:46, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll do that. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 15:18, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've managed to sort it out, thanks for your help. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 10:07, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

lang-?? templates

[edit]

Moved here because no point in imposing this discussion on Editor DreamRimmer.

Trappist the monk, you've been doing this for long enough - {{being deleted}} is the template that is used regardless of the outcome of the TFD. I'm not necessarily opposed to doing it another way, or even modifying the template to indicate a merge, but please don't make it sound like DR was doing something wrong. Primefac (talk) 17:02, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Don't be so hasty to chastise me. You know that I do not lurk WP:TFD. I rarely participate in TfD discussions and even more rarely nominate templates at TfD.
The name of my nomination is Replace and delete lang-?? templates. Had you closed the TfD as 'delete', then yeah, I would have used the {{Being deleted}} template. You did not, so I did not.
Trappist the monk (talk) 17:32, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know you do not lurk, but you have been around a good while and I have seen you involved in various TFD-related edit discussions over the years, so my apologies for assuming you have knowledge that you did not. Using {{being deleted}}, regardless of how good or poor its wording, also allows for proper categorisation and tracking of post-TFD templates, which is another reason we use it. Primefac (talk) 13:09, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think that the close and the {{Being ...}} should agree. If you will reword the close then I shall switch to {{being deleted}}.
Trappist the monk (talk) 13:50, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I really don't think you need to go through all of the templates and then adjust them again, but I have updated the close to reflect your request. As a minor point I was also just reminded that the being deleted template auto-populates the CSD reason in Twinkle, making deletion by patrolling admins that much easier. Primefac (talk) 14:05, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I won't. For a point of clarification (which I probably should have addressed in the TfD), the merger has already been accomplished – it was accomplished before I started the TfD. The merger was the creation {{langx}} and support for it in Module:Lang. We are now in the replace-and-delete phase.
Trappist the monk (talk) 15:11, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good to know. When each one has been orphaned, feel free to tag it with {{db-xfd}}. Primefac (talk) 15:34, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
