Thanks, that's really great news. I was beginning to feel a bit lonely! Welcome on board, I look forward to working with you. Waggers 09:39, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Google

[edit]

I don't know if you realise this but Google is an American company. It actually organzises pages under the catergory "humor" see the bottom of the page - http://www.google.com/search?q=humor. - Naturally this appears more often than. Please don't use Google to support popularity of usage it is systemically biased - see Wikipedia:Search_engine_test. There are many reasons why humor gets more hits. Note that the Wikipedia page on "humour" appears as the 4th hit when searching for "humor" - the search engine works on links rather tnhan page content. Jooler 01:04, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blue Plaques

[edit]

Hello: I've nearly done the paragraph describing the association of the various people on the plaques with the town. Most of the references are from the N/L of the Eastbourne Society, but there are many of them. Is it possible to give a general reference without chapter and verse? The latter would involve referring to some 8 or 10 different issues.

Mikeo1938 22:28, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you have been active on articles relating to Kent, Portal:Kent or various Kent related lists and hope you'd be keen to assist with a WikiProject relating to Kent, please reply to me on this or my Talk page.

If I've duplicated another Project, please let me know as I feel joining a Project is a sensible step to motivate us and share ideas or work in this mammoth encyclopedic task. Olive Oil 15:46, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Very impressive work :) - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 17:42, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Its a team effort! MortimerCat 18:43, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eastbourne Whoops

[edit]

Very sorry, but I've deleted everything in Eastbourne after the Education section! Can you pse get to the page and sort it out from the history? I could probably do so, but hesitate in case I make matters worse. Mikeo1938 17:23, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Map of Kent

[edit]

I've pinched an idea for creating an map with links (Template:Kent Labelled Map), do you fancy having a look/commenting? If it works and looks useful i'll improve the background map. I think you've got the expertise to play with the code, if you'd like to, as i'm off line for a while now. Olive Oil 17:39, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kent Selected Pictures

[edit]

Do you think it would be worth adding Category:WikiProject Kent Selected Picture (as a sub category of Category:WikiProject Kent to the picture pages to ease tracking of these pages? - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 10:35, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you mean the various subdirectories Portal:Kent/Selected_picture/9 for example. I do not see any advantage in this. There are only 53, and missing ones can be seen by red links on the table. MortimerCat 14:56, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree it's easy for us now, but, the problem I see is that the table on Portal talk:Kent/Pictures may be difficult for future editors to find if we're not around and to have everything categorised will enable easy access now and in the future - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 15:19, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have no objections. I am creating the pictures at this moment, so I will pause for a moment to let you create the category. MortimerCat 15:23, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you keep the caption in Portal:Kent/Featured biography,
[[Image:PICTURE.JPG|center|250px|CAPTION]]

it srill provides the caption when the mouse hovers over the picture - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 06:58, 21 February 2007 (UTC) The learning curve is turning into a learning helix. MortimerCat 07:53, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you add "Roger" to every instance of his name? I know you said it was more polite, but it reads like hell. Oops, sorry, I mean it's more tedious to read. How about if we change all the "Roger Dean"s to "Mr. dean"? That would be even more polite and take up less room on the page. -Freekee 05:20, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

After I changed it, I did have second thoughts. Because of your comments, I checked out James Dean and decided using Dean was the way to do it. MortimerCat 08:17, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Project Kent - Trial collaboration

[edit]

What do you think of User:O1ive/sandbox, should we include it? Do you fancy nominating another page for another week or should we have another push on Kent? I've started a list of users to spam. - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 14:05, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do not like the idea of naming names, and recording their work. This is supposed to be a hobby. Although I did a few minor edits, due to unforeseen circumstances I was unable to write the few paragraphs I was hoping to do. I wouldn't want that fact recorded for posterity.
I will make some further suggestions on the project talk page later. MortimerCat 15:35, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: your edit to German F3 Championship

[edit]

"Superceded" can be, and commonly is, spelled with a C. Please maintain the creating editor's preferences when they are not actually incorrect. Adrian M. H. 20:32, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Oxford English Dictionary does not recognise the spelling supercede. It is formed from the root sedere meaning to sit. Words ending with cede, such as precede, are formed from the root cedere. I know you have a source saying it is a valid spelling, but there are plenty of other sources saying it is incorrect and not optional. MortimerCat 20:55, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for moving your images to Commons

[edit]

Thank you so much for moving your images to Commons :-) Just thought I would let you know that you could have used to same filename when you uploaded to Commons (and that way you would not have to edit the articles to update the image names).--Commander Keane 04:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I started with different names just to make sure I was doing it right. I suppose now I know it works, I can finish moving them with the same name. Thanks. MortimerCat 06:02, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you are still watching this page, I remembered why I renamed them. The original Wikipedia picture would not be orphaned, therefore not get deleted. Am I right in saying that? How would an admin know that a Commons picture was poised waiting to take its place? MortimerCat 19:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is true that if an image has the same name on Commons and at Wikipedia that the Wikipedia version will take precedence and will not get orphaned. But you can still ask for the Wikipedia version to be speedy deleted (and you can mention in the delete reason that the image exists on Commons already), indeed there is a template for that - {{NowCommons}}.--Commander Keane 02:12, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

fair use in portals

[edit]

there is currently a proposed amendment to include fair use images in the portal space at Wikipedia:Fair use/Amendment/Fair use images in portals2. I have decided to contact you because you expressed interest in this topic in the past. Please know that I am contacting all editors who partipated in discussions regarding this at WT:FUC. If you feel I contactd you in error, or just don't care :) please ignore me. -ΖαππερΝαππερ BabelAlexandria 03:20, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spelled or spelt

[edit]

So do we English actually write "spelt"? Nice Milton's cottage pic, just down the road from where I grew up, SqueakBox 18:46, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Do you miss Chalfont? MortimerCat 19:00, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD

[edit]

Hi, I'll asume it was unintentional, but please be careful not to edit other people's AfD comments in ways that could change their meanings. Thanks, Joe D (t) 16:08, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry! When I previewed I thought I had messed up the indentations. I should have looked carefully. MortimerCat 16:18, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hob Hursts house

[edit]

You are recorded as the creator of this page... where is it? What is it? Should it be deleted? Victuallers 12:57, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is a genuine English Heritage property, near Bakewell Derbyshire. I created the stub when I was new to Wikipedia. With hindsight, I probably should have just mentioned it within the Bakewell article, and created the article only if I obtained enough material. One day I will take a picture!
I suggest we leave it for now, and I will see if I can expand the article in the next few weeks. If not, I will put a deletion flag on it. MortimerCat 16:54, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

East Sussex WikiProject and Portal

[edit]

Hello there MortimerCat,

I've just read on your userpage that you're interested in starting a East Sussex WikiProject and updating the portal more often, I'd be be happy to help out, so please let me know when you do start the WikiProject and i'll definetly join straight away!

Regards The Menace 15:02, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I have started changing the portal to pick up random articles. There is now a need for someone to start finding East Sussex articles. Otherwise, feel free to contribute wherever you feel content is lacking. For example, someone needs to create the East Sussex project page. MortimerCat 23:12, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, i'm glad to help out! I will sometime soon like to create an East Sussex project page, unless you beat me to it, but first i'll work a bit on the East Sussex portal.

Eastbourne GA review

The review has been placed on hold. Epbr123 19:42, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the time to review it. I am trying to collect together the main article editors to address the issues you raised. MortimerCat 19:47, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello MortimerCat, sorry I didn't reply to your message much earlier, I haven't had the time to come on Wiki, but I see the article has been listed as a good article, nice work! The Menace 11:56, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia does own the copyright however such images can only be used in the article name space with a valid fair use rational since they are not under a free licsense and would create problems for re-users.Genisock2 11:25, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
