Welcome to the Months of African Cinema!

Greetings!

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which has been dedicated to improving contents that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora.

This is a global online edit-a-thon, which is happening in at least 5 language editions of Wikipedia, including the English Wikipedia! Join us in this exciting venture, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section, if you haven't done so already.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing Users who are able to achieve the following:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Country Winners
  • Diversity winner
  • High quality contributors
  • Gender-gap fillers
  • Page improvers
  • Wikidata Translators

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 22:50, 03 October 2018 (UTC)

1920 Irish local elections

Great work to date adding details of the 1920 local election. A real trove! Looking forward to seeing what more of these you uncover. —Iveagh Gardens (talk) 10:44, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks! Nice to see someone else finds it as interesting as I do! Sadly the associated ward election maps are taking a little while longer than anticipated (only done County Antrim and Dublin so far) due to a computer crash :(. MrPenguin21 (talk) 15:27, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
Sorry to hear that! I know how frustrating that can be. —Iveagh Gardens (talk) 20:58, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

Libya Wikiproject revamp

Hello, I am very knowledge able about the Middle East and MENA and its conflicts. I was very surprised to see that Wikiproject:Libya was not entirely as interactive and attractive as Wikiproject:Syria or Wikiproject:Israel and others for that matter. Please send me a message on your take or ideas on the matter, and if you want to join in. Max Pigeon (talk) 13:11, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi MaxPigeon! Sorry for the massive delay - I had been taking a break for a bit! (I had a computer crash early in 2019 where I lost quite a bit of stuff, and took a bit of a break after that). Anyways let me know if you're still looking for help. Thanks MrPenguin21 (talk) 22:27, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:59, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Notice

The article 1997 United Kingdom general election in Edinburgh has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Results are already included in individual constituencies. No need for this article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SɱαɾƚყPαɳƚʂ22 (Ⓣⓐⓛⓚ) 15:19, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks SmartyPants. I think deletion makes sense - while there may be a need of Wiki users/readers to understand certain geographic features of elections, I don't think there's any particular value added through maintaining micro-pages like these. MrPenguin21 (talk) 17:32, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

City of London 2017 elections - map...

Hello there - I saw you had created a (very good) map of the 2017 City of London election results. I did spot one small error, however: uncontested wards are shaded in dark grey, but Bread Street *was* contested, with four candidates for two seats, so I think it should have been shaded in light grey and not dark.

A small point, but I hope you don't mind my pointing it out!

If you need any further information, please let me know.

Thanks for a great map!

Best wishes, talkGiler 23:24, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Fixed your talk page archiving

Hi! I took the liberty of fixing the auto-archiving settings at the top of this page. I've moved Talk:MrPenguin20/Archive 1 to User talk:MrPenguin21/Archive 1, and configured the bot to continue archiving there. I've also moved the configuration and the {{Talk header}} box to the top, below the first section. --rchard2scout (talk) 12:27, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

Amazing! thanks Rchard2scout! MrPenguin21 (talk) 22:24, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
Looks like there was an URL which is on the spam blacklist. I've put it in between <nowiki> tags so that the archiving bot can work. --rchard2scout (talk) 07:18, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
Eek - thanks! MrPenguin21 (talk) 17:07, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Ismat Abdel-Rahman.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Ismat Abdel-Rahman.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:20, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Army of the Men of the Naqshbandi Order Fighters.jpg. Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete or generic. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact source (such as the web page, or printed document) where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the direct/bare URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. — Ирука13 03:10, 5 August 2023 (UTC)

Creating pages of Sudanese Army & Sudanese Navy

Hello,

Sudanese Army and Sudanese Navy - two service branches of the Sudanese Armed Forces have no Wikipedia pages. Service branches of other country’s armed forces have separate pages about them, except Sudan.

I noticed in Wikipedia:WikiProject Sudan that you're interested in conflict and political topic. That's why, I'm requesting you to create pages about the two service branches. As a civil war is happening in Sudan right now, I think the forces deserve separate wikipedia pages. I've added their names in 'Article Requests' at Wikipedia:WikiProject Sudan.

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:51, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Map query

Hello. I was a bit confused by this map you added. Are the colourings vote strength of overseas voters in the respective countries, or are they simply neighbouring British colonies/dominions rendered in similar colours? Cheers, Number 57 23:43, 7 February 2024 (UTC)

Hey Number57. I fair that's a fair point, and I totally agree the colouring is a bit confusing. I've redone the colours and relabeled - it was really intended to give a sense of the wider surrounding geopolitical context at the time. MrPenguin21 (talk) 18:01, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
