Update In East Aleppo offensive & Latakia offensive

I Think these two maps needs updates. Specially because of this new front.

The article has been renamed to Ithriyah-Raqqa offensive (February 2016–present), and since its taking place in Hama and Raqqa provinces and is separate from the Aleppo & Latakia offensives it should have a separate map. EkoGraf (talk) 09:56, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

PS. I think there's a mistake in Northern Aleppo offensive (2016) Map. There's no report of Kurd's offensive toward of Anadan. It's Hezbollah and Regime forces. But in your recent map you painted this gain with yellow (Kurds territory). P. Pajouhesh (talk) 18:07, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

If memory serves the YPG took Girê Mişka (which overlooks Anadan) ~6 February. I don't think it's part of any offensive against Anadan proper though. I'll double check. MrPenguin20 (talk) 18:01, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

Template:Scottish (Pre-1707) elections

Hello MrPenguin. I saw you created {{Scottish (Pre-1707) elections}}, which I assume this was based on the pre-1801 Irish template? I think we could actually combine the pre-1707 Scottish ones into the main Scottish template. The only reason we needed a standalone Irish one is because Ireland is now divided into two states. Thoughts? Number 57 08:42, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 11:16, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Battle of Al-Bab map

The Turks and rebels only temporarily (for less than a day) controlled Bzaah and Qabasin. ISIL quickly recaptured them and they are still ISIL-held (source - [2]). The main Wikipedia Syrian civil war map is also reflecting this. So could you please adjust the map accordingly? Thanks! EkoGraf (talk) 18:19, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Further to the above, I think we should merge this into {{Scottish elections}} as it's the same country, albeit a different era. Do you know any other election years during this period? Number 57 21:39, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi Number 57! Sorry for not replying before. I suppose it in part depends how "election" is defined, given the peculiar nature of the composition of the pre-union Scottish parliament. Certainly 1689, and if the style used by the Template:English election was used would suggest referencing the many different Scottish parliaments as being elections. I feel a bit agnostic on this issue - I see what you mean about the Irish election template, and I know it would simplify it a bit to incorporate pre-1707 elections into the Scotland template. That said, I feel like part of the current convention is for new templates for different state entities - e.g. different templates for Kingdom of England, Kingdom of Great Britain, 1801-1920 elections in Ireland, and I feel that by incorporating the Kingdom of Scotland elections into the present Scottish elections template implies a constitutional continuum, whereas in reality the parliament of the Kingdom of Scotland was far different (in terms of constitutional status, powers, composition, procedures) to the present Scottish parliament. Like I said though, I see and take your point, I'm just a bit unsure. MrPenguin20 (talk) 22:07, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
I think the main issue for me is that whilst England, GB and Ireland don't fit in with the modern nations, Scotland on the other hand is the same geographical entity. To get away from suggestions of continuity, we could have a separate row for the old Parliament elections to make it clear that it's a separate era. But I'd rather we have a more exhaustive list of elections first as well. Number 57 22:46, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
I see your point, but yes we should probably get a larger list of elections first! MrPenguin20 (talk) 15:25, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

Map of Khan al-Shaykhun

Thanks for the map (and other maps as well - great job). However on your map the town appears in the green marked area, which is associated with the Syrian Opposition, whereas in fact the town is in the territory controlled by Tahrir al-Sham (al-Qaeda offshoot), which we mark grey/white in Syrian War maps.GreyShark (dibra) 19:47, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Greyshark - thanks for the comment! Yeah I decided a while back to use green for all Opposition groups (HTS included) as I believed it was stylistically easier to interpret, particularly as these groups often work in overlapping areas (although civil governance can be divided) - e.g. I found that doing things like marking Maardes a separate colour (due to the HTS presence) simply added an element of confusion, but I'll have a rethink and see if I can come up with something better - use of hatched shading perhaps? MrPenguin20 (talk) 19:51, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
Well, first of all let's define what is Syrian opposition - it is a conglomerate of political and military groups working for deposition of Bashar al-Assad and his Ba'athist regime within Syrian territories. The opposition does not include ISIL and neither Tahrir al-Sham/HTS (which controls Khan Shaykhun) and is loosely connected with Ahrar al-Sham. I'm not very much for painting Ahrar al-Sham into a different non-green color (sometimes they cooperate with oppositional groups and sometimes they are on their own), but ISIL and HTS do not have anything to do with Syrian opposition and painted black and grey on maps - one aspiring for global domination with Islamic Caliphate, the other aiming a more localized Islamic Emirate, but not specifically within former Syrian borders.GreyShark (dibra) 17:52, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Where did you get the results detail that you used for the infobox? It might be useful to add more details to the results section too. Cheers. Number 57 20:00, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Flag of Tuva - 1917-1918 variant

Dear User MrPenguin20,

I am a Dutch vexillologist and flag researcher, member of the Dutch Association for Vexillology: Nederlandse Vereniging voor Vlaggenkunde.

I am studying the flags and history of Tuva. I noticed your 1917-1918 variant, but found nowhere any relevant information about it. Could you give me background information on this flag, please? And very important for me is your source of this drawing / image.

Yours sincerely, Wim Schuurman — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.161.176.132 (talk) 16:12, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Wim,
Thanks for the message. I've done a bit of digging, and it looks like I made that flag after a request from another Wikipedian - Antemister. I'd recommend asking him if he recalls where the exact source is from.
Whilst a similar flag is mentioned by William Crampton in 'The Flags of Tuva,' by the Flag Institute, there are some noticeable differences (the khorlo he mentions is surrounded by a cow, plough, and semi-circle and columns similar to those featured in the existing Mongolian flag). If it is any use, the main source for the piece by Crampton is an essay by Prof. V A Sokolov, 'State Flags and Coats of Arms of Tuva,' from 'The Flag Battalion XXII. 3-4 (No. 100), 1983.' That leads me to conclude that the flag referenced should either be edited to bring in line with Crampton's description, sourced, or removed (as otherwise it would be misleading).
Best of luck with your research, and please let me know if there's any other ways I can help. Thanks. MrPenguin20 (talk) 19:37, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 12

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Irish local elections, 1928, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Labour, Independent and Farmers' Party (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Request reason:

Hi Oshwah - thanks for the message. The similarity is deliberate, as I normally edit under the name MrPenguin20 but have lost access to my account, so have created this similarly named account to be my replacement. MrPenguin21 (talk) 15:49, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Accept reason:

Hey, thanks for the explanation. Sorry to hear that you lost access to your previous account. I just wanted to make sure that you were legit and to keep 'MrPenguin20' safe from being harassed or impersonated - I apologize if this block was inconvenient to you at all. I see that you requested the user page of MrPenguin20 to be moved; I can certainly help you with that. Let me get you unblocked, and we can work together and get some stuff done :-)... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:57, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Done. You are now free to move about the project ;-). Feel free to message me on my user talk page here with any requests for assistance and I'll be happy to help you out. Thanks again for understanding :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:00, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks Oshwah! No worries - I totally understand, and thanks for yor help. Some people have suggested maybe taking a look at Village Pump incase they can help me out (and help me remember the email address that I used for the old account so I can reset the password!). Thanks! MrPenguin21 (talk) 17:39, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Complications

@MrPenguin21: hi! I am afraid this might be a little difficult. If you don't have access to your old account, one can't prove that this new one and the old one are both handled by the same one, so, it'd be contentious to perform moves at this moment. My apologies for that. Regards, SshibumXZ (talk · contribs). 14:17, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Argh! Thanks for the speedy reply though SshibumXZ. The only alternative I can think of is if an admin could tell me what the email address linked to my old account was (as I've forgotten, meaning I have no idea where the password resets are being sent). I don't know if you can advise if that is possible? Alternatively, given the other account hasn't been used probably since March-ish, is there any way that helps with the contentiousness? Thanks! MrPenguin21 (talk) 14:21, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
MrPenguin21, no problem. I would have to resonate Frayae's advise, that you probably should ask for help over on the Village pump (technical)|technical village pump and given that you have already done, I am afraid I am coming up short on what else I can recommend to you. Take my good wishes for retrieving your previous account, though. All the best! Happy editing! Regards, SshibumXZ (talk · contribs). 20:30, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks SshibumXZ. The plot thickens - looks like I didn't have an email address fixed to the account at the time I lost the password (I remember replacing the email, not removing it full stop, which is a massive pain). So assuming that I can't get an admin to change it for me (due to the lack of authentication) I suppose I'm here to stay in my new guise as MrPenguin21! Thanks for all your help. MrPenguin21 (talk) 19:21, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
SshibumXZ you wouldn't have the ability to implement a redirect at the old MrPenguin20 userpage redirecting it to MrPenguin21 would you? I've done it with the talk page, but I seem to be prevented from doing it with the main user page. Thanks! MrPenguin21 (talk) 19:35, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
MrPenguin21, hi again! I think I can redirect that page to your userpage, however, I would still prefer for you to gain access to your older account, for the time being, I suggest that you soft redirect User:MrPenguin20 to User:MrPenguin21. Regards, SshibumXZ (talk · contribs). 16:47, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah getting access to MrPenguin20 is my preference too, let's hope someone can help. Thinking this over, I'm pretty sure I replaced the username with a 'MrPenguin' style gmail account, so I think that could help narrow it down, somewhat... MrPenguin21 (talk) 20:46, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
