Fan of Casey's shows

Hi MrRadioGuy,

Just curious and comparing notes with you.

What call letters did you fix?

I'm trying to get Premiere Radio Networks to send me an official list, but so far still waiting and having to dig up ones I can find on Google.

Bad part of this is that everything is constantly changing and it's almost impossible to keep this current for very long. Just felt like doing it because I'm a big fan of Casey Kasem's old shows.

Thanks,

Steve Sybesma Lafayette, CO —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ssybesma (talkcontribs) 18:07, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

I just fixed an internal wiki-link, from WYNZ-FM to WYNZ as the WYNZ-FM article does not exist and WYNZ's offical call letters do not include -FM, which explains why the article is where it is and not over at WYNZ-FM.
It's not hard to keep the list updated, there will be stations adding/dropping every so often but it's tough now because there is no offical list and the list on Wikipedia was so outdated. Mr Radio Guy !!! 18:15, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
I added -FM outside of the brackets when it was not part of the Wiki label because I figured it's an aid

to people knowing it's an FM station (if they don't already know that 530-1600 is AM and 88.1-108.1 is FM.

Would you allow that to remain in that case? The link still works because the -FM is outside of the link.
Anyway, I wanted to throw something at you about reordering the list to make it a little more usable.
I was thinking of putting the list in GMT order, but still leaving the Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific names in place.
That way, the entire list would show according to what time the shows are on, regardless of time zone.
Or perhaps you have a better idea on how to order it.
Ssybesma (talk) 18:28, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I see what you were trying to do in regards to the -FM/AM thing, I was just fixing the wiki-link so that people could click on the station's article to figure out what station it was that carrying AT40:70's.
An easier way to sort the list could be by State/Market or alphabetically by call letters and change the colums to look like this:
Station Day/Time Website Listen Online
KCEZ-FM 102.1 Chico, CA Sunday 7am-10am Pacific (3 hrs) website Yes
KFYN-AM 1420 Bonham, TX Sunday 9pm-12am Central (3 hrs) website Yes
KLCX-FM 103.9 Rochester, MN Sunday 6pm-9pm Central (3 hrs) website Yes
This would make it easier for article readers to actually find their local station, as opposed to the "By start time" sort, because stations can frequently change their schedules. Mr Radio Guy !!! 19:08, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks MrRadioGuy, I will implement your suggestion. I guess you noticed how the links still work in the other

stations on the list that I added the -FM to. My thinking is that it looks more consistent. There's even a way to alias a link for some of the wiki links that have ()sin them but I forgot how to do that. I would like to make them look all the same as much as possible. Most of the links indeed go to wiki pages that only have the strict 4 letters of the radio station, but (IMHO) the call letter wiki pages should be updated to add -AM or -FM (a massive projectin itself) because of the fact many stations have an AM or FM version of the same call letters and are not necessarily owned by the same company, and/or may share none of the same characteristics. The other part of the problem is the wikis for the stations themselves get grossly out of date, with changes in ownership, frequencies, format, etc... so it's hard to rely a lot on the information in them, just as its hard to rely on the info on the page we're working on. That's why I added the Last Verified column (didn't know what else to do there).

I'm also going to do searches for markets and states that don't appear on the list. PRN said they would give me information for a station in a particular market, so if I need a few here and there, guess I can ask them.
Hopefully, Skyezx won't wipe out the whole page and

all the hours of work because he says it's unencyclopedic (see his note in the discussion). There needs to be a home for this list and less enthusiasm to destroy people's work.

Keep in touch...

Redirects

Recently you modified a number of redirects on SR West Country and Battle of Britain classes. Most of them were benign, and didn't really need changing (such as replacing [[British Railways]] by [[British Rail]]ways. Such changes also modify the 'tooltip' text seen when the link is hovered over -- here I would argue there is no harm in showing the original "British Railways".

However, my main gripe is for a couple of edits where the redirect includes an anchor to the subsection of the article (1955 Modernisation Plan and Brunswick Green), but the link was changed to the article name, bypassing the anchor and thus making the user have to look harder to find the required information.

I thought the WP policy was for redirects to be left alone, rather than piped (as you have done) since that allows for the easier conversion from a redirect to a stand-alone article; easier location of cross-refs between articles, etc. (Having converted a redirect to an article, 'what links here' can help locate where the article is mentioned. If the redirects have been bypassed with a pipe, this is no longer possible.) I know it is unlikely, but there is always the possibility of (for example) British Railways being created separately from British Rail in the future, in which case the SR WC/BB article would now have incorrect links.

A.J. Healy's Picture

Hi, Mr Radio Guy!

I'm Darren, and I joined Wikipedia, more or less, just to update, improve, and create articles about the books Tommy Storm, its sequel, Tommy Storm and the Galactic Knights, and their author, A.J. Healy. Recently, I e-mailed A.J. and asked him to attach a picture to a reply, so I could add it to his page. He did so, and I downloaded it, and uploaded it here. It was deleted seven days later, I think because of the liscense I selected. I really don't know what liscense to put it under, because I have his permission to use it here. Can you help me out?

You have recently participated in discussion at an AFD for a broadcast station. I have recently posted the above topic on the talk page of the notability guideline for organizations and companies, to see if there is interest in adding language related to the notability of radio and TV broadcast stations to that guideline. Your input would be most welcome. Thanks. Edison (talk) 01:33, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 00:31, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

List of stations that air Casey Kasem's American Top 40: The 70's

Hi MrRadioGuy,

Really sorry to see the list go. I cannot figure out what the deal is with these people who spend their entire free time deleting other people's work instead of policing the accuracy of things that are posted. That seems where 95% of the effort should be. It's far too easy to delete than create, though.

I know we both tried to work to improve the list and I was proud to be involved in helping update a source of information for people who like the show.

Perhaps there can be a home for this list (and others), where Wiki Nazis will not bother it. All I care about is whether something is complete and factual, but not whether I think it's useful.

My views on what an online encyclopedia doesn't have to be:

The way I think they determine what an encylopedia is, is so unnecessarily limiting.

There WAS no way to put all the world's information (of whatever kind) into one set of encylopedias when books were being printed to contain them, so criteria had to be developed to exclude lots of things deemed not to fit within a prescribed limit of say, 30 thick books. Of course, 30 thick books can contain only so much!!!

I think the administrators of Wikipedia err greatly in imposing upon Wikipedia limits that were created not so much as a way to help determine what an encylopedia really is, but out of the sheer necessity of avoiding an unfeasibly large library of books.

With the internet, that's not really a concern anymore, although these outmoded criteria are being applied to Wikipedia.

Wikipedia should recast itself as being a much less-limiting forum, because it's just not as necessary to do that anymore. It can open up just a bit and not lose whatever it thinks its purpose is.

What did you think was vandalism on my user page. Obviously it wasn't. (JoeCool950 (talk) 07:48, 29 December 2010 (UTC))

It's not, it was an accidental slip on my part. Sorry, damn touch pad on my lap top. --MrRadioGuy P T C E 18:28, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Trying to find out how to stop my article from being deleted

I work for the MDS Foundation and I submitted an article written by one of our doctors called "Management of Iron Overload in Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS)". I received a notice that the article was up for speedy deletion because of copyright. The article was submitted to me by one of our doctors and we were asked to post it on wikipedia because this topic on MDS is not covered by Wikipedia. I copied and pasted this article to wikipedia from an email he sent me. How can I explain that this was not taken from the doctor it was provided by him for me to post to wikipeda. Foundation4573 (talk) 19:27, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Looking at the history, I see it was actually deleted twice...once for being an essay (see WP:NOT) and once for being a copyright violation. I didn't see the article so I can't tell if it was a copyright issue (generally I see that when someone copies a website into a wikipedia article) but if it was an essay then that's generally not allowed. Whatever the subject may be, it'll stick around if its written like an encyclopedia entry rather than a college thesis. --MrRadioGuy P T C E 20:33, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your answer. Will the article stick around on wikipedia or is it deleted for good. Sounds like maybe I should have the doctor post the article in his own words instead of using reference throughout. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Foundation4573 (talkcontribs) 20:59, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Will it survive? I have no idea, other editors can find information on it and add to the article and change it as they wish, once it's out there anything can happen. As for it being deleted for good, you can try Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion where an administrator can restore the article and put it within your user page and rewrite the article, but if you still have the origional on your computer, you can rewrite it there and copy it wikipedia when you're comfortable with it.--MrRadioGuy P T C E 21:12, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Andrew Brown

Hi, I'm Andrew Brown (translator) and just found out that I have a Wikipedia entry - I don't know why, possibly a well-meaning publisher. Would it be possible to have this page deleted? I'm uneasy having such an entry: it's not of any interest, and simply consists of a tedious list of my translations. If you want to check that I am the person I say I am, please contact me via my e-mail: asb.greville@talk21.com. (I've just created an account as a potential editor but am not sure whether I could just delete the article myself.) Thanks, and best wishes, Andrew Brown. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrewsbrown (talkcontribs) 20:51, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

The deletion of your article is up for discussion. Judging by the look of the article, it looks like it will be deleted. If not, there are other ways you can request it be deleted and not recreated. --MrRadioGuy P T C E 01:48, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Hello, thanks for your quick feedback! I would be v. happy to have the page about me deleted and not recreated. Perhaps you cd share this suggestion with DubiousIrony? (I'm still finding my way around behind the scenes here...) I think it was created by publishers and just reads like a biblio. Thanks, Andrew Brown (sorry, I can't even do tildes on this recalcitrant machine...) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrewsbrown (talkcontribs) 10:43, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
That's okay, it's helpful to add them, but there's a bot that goes around patrolling talk pages and signs them automatically for you. --MrRadioGuy P T C E 22:18, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Added template for SuggestBot

Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 21:02, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
