Welcome!

Hello, Mrrooftop, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, like Andy Crofts, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for page creation, and may soon be deleted.

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard. Thank you.

The article Andy Crofts has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided reliable sources, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide sources within 7 days, you may request the article be undeleted when you have sources. April 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Andy Crofts has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://www.myspace.com/themoonsofficial (matching the regex rule \bmyspace\.com).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 18:25, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Andy Crofts, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Andy Crofts. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Off2riorob (talk) 20:08, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Andy Crofts do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia.

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to the page Andy Crofts. Such edits constitute vandalism and are reverted. A tag has been placed on The Moons requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ttonyb (talk) 00:49, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Andybbc.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Andybbc.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Off2riorob (talk) 01:03, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Moonsalbumcover.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Hey MrRooftop. This file that you uploaded (The Moons album cover) has a copyright but you claimed it as your own. In the case that you are the copyright holder, Wikipedia will need permission from the company to use it (CITIZEN 2010). Check out WP:COPYRIGHT for more info. The menu on the right side of the page also provides links for companies to donate the use of material for use on Wikipedia. OlYellerTalktome 15:04, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading image files[edit]

Hi, Mrrooftop. You state that you own the copyright to the File:Lifeonearthcover.png album cover. However, the image you uploaded is an exact copy of this Flickr image which was created by the artist Benjamin Brown. That image displays a non-commercial license which is incompatible with Wikipedia. Did you actually create the artwork or did you just download the image off the internet? Additionally, I have the same concerns about your ownership to the other photos which you uploaded (File:Andybbc.png, File:MercMoonsRed-0743p.jpg, File:Bandeye2.jpeg, etc.) Could you please provide an explanation for these as well? Thanks. CactusWriter | needles 19:34, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Themoons.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Themoons.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. We hope (talk) 13:00, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Andy Polaroid.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Andy Polaroid.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add soapboxing, promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, as you did at The Moons, you may be blocked from editing. OlYeller21Talktome 20:01, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at The Moons shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. OlYeller21Talktome 20:27, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for persistent disruptive editing, as you did at The Moons. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. Request reason:

Please can you unblock me on this page for UK band The Moons. I understand I may have done somethings wrong on wiki and seemed disruptive but I wasnt totally sure what I was doing. I have figured out how to edit the page now and would be less disruptive. All I would like to do is update all of the information on The Moons page as it is out of date and lots of the information is wrong. If you wish to delete me after that I do not mind. I just wish to update the page and put a better image of the band that is more relevant. Thank you and I hope you can help me Mrrooftop (talk) 7:32 am, Yesterday (UTC−5)

Decline reason:

Procedural decline. Please only open one request at a time. You can still use this page to post messages without using the {{unblock}} template. Danger High voltage! 18:22, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I don't have the power to unblock you but I'm interested to hear how you have "figured out how to edit the page now and would be less disruptive." From what I've seen, the warnings that you were given that spell out exactly what you were doing wrong, were completely ignored. Again, you don't have to answer to me but your motivation hasn't changed. How can anyone be sure that your intent to subvert policies and guidelines, even after being warned, won't continue? Request reason:

to yeller, yes I totally understand what you are saying and to be straight to the point Im not very good on computers and didnt understand lots of the wiki info so I may have been doing things which I didnt know were wrong and which I apologise. I know I was re-editing the page a lot as I kept noticing mistakes, so I went in to fix it. I didnt realise wiki was very strict and I thought that as I created this page that I would be allowed to do this. I certainly was not trying to be disruptive im not even totally sure what that means. Anyhow all I want to do now is just update the page and change the main photo of the band. I more than happy for one of the wiki administrators to do so if im not allowed. I just didnt understand why true information on a band was being denied but I also had not been reading any of my warnings as I didnt even know I had them. I just want a very simple page and then I wont come. Thanks for the message and I hope we can sort this out Mrrooftop (talk) 5:00 pm, Yesterday (UTC−5)

Accept reason:

I have unblocked per your promise to follow our standard guidelines and policies and to communicate with others when they raise concerns about your edits. This is your one chance--don't waste it. DMacks (talk) 08:33, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Like I said, I'm don't have the power to remove your block but I'm satisfied with your answer. The only thing I'd like to say to you is that Wikipedia isn't necessarily concerned with what's "true" as much as it's concerned with what's "verifiable." Wikipedia needs references for the information we publish, especially when it's contentious. I'm happy to work with you in the future.
If I see any edits that are causing issues, I'll let you know and we can work on coming to a reasonable conclusion. If there even are issues, we just need to have a bit of a dialogue going. As long as we have that, I feel confident that we can work out any issues that we run into. OlYeller21Talktome 02:36, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a bit skeptical about this, but if you're willing to babysit, OlYeller, then I'd be happy to give Mr. Rooftop some rope, pending comment from DMacks. Danger High voltage! 18:22, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm willing as long as Mrrooftop understands that they need to communicate with others when/if issues arise. OlYeller21Talktome 21:23, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for helping me with this. I honestly don't mean to cause trouble on here. Im simply just not very good at understanding some of the info as I am not very computer literate. I guess ill wait to see if my account is unblocked and then try to edit the page again and hope that I do it correctly with some worthy references etc. How do I go about showing one of you first though to see if I have done the page correctly. Thanks again Mrrooftop (talk) 13:31, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I just realised I dont have to use the unblock template everytime I want to speak. Damn! Im not helping things here

I just removed the unblock template from around your comment. No harm, no foul. Danger High voltage! 13:57, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I created a copy of the article in your userspace. You can find it at User:Mrrooftop/The Moons. You can edit there all you want with little chance of causing any real issues. The only thing that I can think of that would be an issue is if you copy text from a copyrighted source or don't attribute text from a source that allows copying. I've got that userspace article on my watchlist so you can basically go nuts on it and I'll check your edits for issues. If I find any, we can talk about them and work on a solution. OlYeller21Talktome 14:51, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Yeller for your help. Ok I will try and have a go at sorting the page out on the thing you created for me and then message you again to see if its ok. :)

I just tried to edit the user page you created yeller but it will not let me do a thing to it. I guess its because im blocked. Im not sure what to do now. Ill try again though

Ya, you won't be able to until you're unblocked. DMacks will need to review the block before anything else is done. OlYeller21Talktome 16:30, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thank you. Ill just wait then for now and see what happens.

Thanks Dmacks. I will use Yeller users page he made to try and get it together and he has kindly said he will help me if I do anything wrong.

Hello Yeller, I have made adjustments to the user page you created for me. Please can you see if I have done everything ok. Thank you again for your help

I am very angry about being blocked from this page as I know the band and have helped them many times. All i wanted to do was update the information about the band is some of it is very out od date including the profile picture which is not relevent. Please do not block me as I feel I can give the most accurate info on The Moons and would like to tidy the page a little. thank you

Decline reason:

The reason you give is a good argument for why you shouldn't be unblocked. Have you read WP:COI, and do you understand what it means? I've checked some of your edits, and despite multiple warnings and blocks, nothing has improved. Bjelleklang - talk 19:30, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To patrolling admins, you will want to make yourself familiar with this discussion at WP:COIN. I'd be willing to work with the user to make sure that what they would like to add conforms with WP guidelines and policies. I was willing in the past but the user didn't respond when confronted with the issues present in their editing. I'm not suggesting that they be willing to work with me to be unblocked but their anger tells me that they don't feel that this block was justified which is probably why they never responded and took to meat/sock puppetry and edit warring instead. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. DMacks (talk) 15:09, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:The Moons London photoshoot.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:The Moons London photoshoot.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. Hello and thanks for the message. The photographer has given permission to use the photo and has sent an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org confirming this. I also have a copy of the email so do I need to do anything else? Thank you --Mrrooftop (talk) 19:15, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
