FOOD POISONING TAKES THE LIVES OF SEVEN CHILDREN

FOOD POISONING TAKES THE LIVES OF SEVEN CHILDREN

Two minor children in the Kavango area were the only ones who escaped the fatality of a food poisoning incident. The other seven children were the unfortunate victims in this, and lost their lives. According to doctors in the area, this is not the first occurrence of deaths related to poisoning. The deceased children died as a result of “acute liver failure”, as stated by Dr Yangozov( The Namibian 2011).

Dr Richard Kamwi, Minister of Health and Social Services stated that: “...the children’s symptoms included abdominal pain, vomiting and fainting.” ( The Namibian 2011) Other symptoms include fever, diarrhoea, headaches and dizziness. (http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/food-poisoning/understanding-food-poisoning-symptoms). Conclusion Investigations are ongoing to determine the direct cause of poisoning as it is only currently believed that maize and cassava leaves are responsible.
