Please respect editing restrictions

[edit]

Please respect the editing restrictions that are currently in effect on many SL conflict related articles per the blue box on top of these articles. In particular, you

  • violated the 1RR limit here and here
  • remove cited material here and here
  • added uncited personal opinion here

You really need to respect the edit restrictions, or else you will have to get blocked. That would be a pity. I am aware that you also have done some good faith edits, such as when you added a missing reference here. Please keep doing this good work. — Sebastian 07:20, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Artile Human Rights in Sri Lanka does not display a warning as saying it's protected or edit restricted. So i dont think i'm violating anything 1RR there.... cheers!! --Navod Ediriweera (talk) 08:32, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yes, you're right. Sorry about that. — Sebastian 08:37, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help

[edit]

There is an article called "Portuguese Ceylon". Sri Lanka was never fully occupied by the Portuguese. For that reason today, it is widely accepted by scholars that the term Portuguese Ceylon is inapplicable. Rather the term Portuguese period in Ceylon (Sri Lanka)‎ is more applicable, because "Portuguese Ceylon" may seem to those who are unaware, as if all of Sri Lanka was occupied by the Portuguese at that time period. Therefore I need someone to help me keep the article title changed.--Svm1 63 (talk) 06:22, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Svm1. (Just Logged in after some time) I read the article in question and by the look of it all the colonial articles are named that way. It seems to be a wikipedia standard or something.. --Navod Ediriweera (talk) 10:19, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, NavodEranda! I see you're listed as a member of WikiProject Sri Lanka. Orphaned non-free media (File:Crest Dharmapala.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Crest Dharmapala.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 11:22, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka

[edit]
Dear NavodEranda,

Thank you for your contributions to the Wikimedia Projects. As an editor from Sri Lanka, you are warmly invited to join the official Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka and to subscribe to its mailing list, Wikimedia-LK.

The user group currently includes volunteers from Wikipedia and other projects, from the English, Sinhala, and Tamil speaking communities. It is the Wikimedia-approved platform for editors from Sri Lanka to enable wider collaboration, for both online and offline projects.

With your support, we hope to organize cross-project content improvement drives as part of online projects, as well as organize in-person edit-a-thons, training sessions, photowalks, and other such activities, in the near future. The ultimate goal(s) of these initiatives is to improve the overall coverage and quality of topics relating to Sri Lanka, as well as encourage new editors to join the Wikimedia community, while simultaneously empowering and retaining our existing team of editors.

There are no mandatory obligations for members who choose join the community, other than the usual editing rules for online projects, and the friendly space policy for in-person projects. You may also (or instead) subscribe to the mailing list, where any member could initiate discussions with volunteers across projects, notify members of events and meetings, stay up to date with competitions, organize your own events, and so on.

See you on board, and Happy Editing!
