August 2018[edit]

25px|alt=Information icon Hello, I'm Usernamekiran (AWB). I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —specifically this edit to Wikipedia:Help desk— because it did not appear constructive. Thank you. usernamekiran(talk) 14:10, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Usernamekiran, I would like to appeal this.
I wanted to clarify my initial question by saying that I was using the Wikipedia Beta app. Neuralnewt (talk) 14:13, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I apologise. I havent changed your second edit. The first one looked like you were advertising/spamming an app. I apologise again. See you around :) —usernamekiran(talk) 14:22, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! I hope my new edit looks less intrusive. Sorry about the confusion.

Disambiguation link notification for October 13[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Margaret Mead, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page AAAS (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

August 2019 incident[edit]

The first lesson is that it's probably bad form to open a conversation another editor on their talk page. If nothing else, users generally have the right to blank conversations on their talk page, which gets in the way of other parties discussing things.

As for how to respond to vandalism, read WP:VANDAL. Also, you should install Twinkle, a plugin that gives you access to a whole bunch of features, including a library of warnings and notices that you can give. Read up on a template before using it, the names aren't always that descriptive and they may have very specific use cases.

In this case, it wasn't really clear to me whether the edits were intentionally bad, so I went with the lowest warning level, {{uw-vandalism1}}. If they continue making similarly disruptive edits, then someone else will slap another warning on them. If they really don't quit it, they'll get reported to an admin and banned or blocked (different things). I wouldn't recommend following an editor around on new edits, it invites a a battleground mentality where they think you're bullying them, and can lead to you getting personally invested in getting them banned (a bad look, which can also lead to bad decisions). signed, Rosguill talk 06:49, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rosguill, Thank you for this message! I could feel that I wasn't handling it very well, I was a little worked up after seeing that this editor has included self-promotional links to his personal instagram, changed 'school' to 'asylum', and reverted edits of other people who corrected his vandalism among other things. I will make sure to follow the best practice with the warning notices instead expressing personal frustrations moving forward. Neuralnewt (talk) 12:21, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
