Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Nickcognito64, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Hello Nickcognito64. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Mark Curry (television presenter), gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Nickcognito64. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Nickcognito64|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. 331dot (talk) 13:45, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Mark Curry (television presenter), it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. You are continuing to add unsourced material to this article and to use deprecated sources. You got a warning popup on the deprecated sources but continued. The comment about "information was gotten through his online agent" raises SERIOUS concerns about undeclared paid editing. You need to STOP pushing this, use the article talk page to propose edits and read the message below this about paid editing. Ravensfire (talk) 13:46, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As previously advised, your edits, such as the edit you made to Mark Curry (television presenter), give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:Nickcognito64, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Nickcognito64|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. Ravensfire (talk) 13:46, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I apologies for the confusion, but I do not work for anyone, I am unemployed and thought that as a editor, Mark Curry's page was sparse and lacked a lot of information that was found on reliable sources. I am not getting paid to do this, I am using reliable sources such as his online bio to help make the quality of his page far greater. I apologies if I have breach any rules, Please could you tell me how I could deliver accurate and reliable sources without crossed any more policies. Nickcognito64 (talk) 13:57, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You wrote " This information was gotten through his online agent", how do you have access to his agent? That is still a conflict of interest. 331dot (talk) 14:03, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I apologies for not being clear, this meant that the source was gotten through his online bio, which would've been verified by his agent. I am not associated with his agent, I am just a fan of Mark Curry and I am not getting any source of income by editing this page. I am unemployed and do not wish to cause anymore confusion, I just want to make Mark Curry's page more thorough and professional. I am not in contact with his agent at all, nor am I getting any financial gain at all. Please let me know if there are any further issues or misunderstandings. Nickcognito64 (talk) 14:12, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, this is satisfactory. Thank you. Note that there may be copyright and other issues in just using content from Mr. Curry's official bio. The article about Mr. Curry should primarily summarize what independent reliable sources say about him, not what his official bio says. I would suggest using the article talk page to better clarify what you wish to do. 331dot (talk) 14:34, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for understanding, does this mean that I can repost my edit with citations and additional source information? Nickcognito64 (talk) 15:09, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My advice would be to first discuss it on the talk page. 331dot (talk) 15:21, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thank you. Nickcognito64 (talk) 15:22, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Would you read a draft of my edits and proof read them, then tell me if it will suffice and if not what I could change. Nickcognito64 (talk) 15:23, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you do that on the talk page and mark it as a formal edit request, editors who have more experience in that area than I will see it. 331dot (talk) 15:29, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Will do. Nickcognito64 (talk) 15:36, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Formal Edit Request

[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mark_Curry_(television_presenter)&oldid=1105285507 This is my old version of Mark Curry's page. Please could somebody proof read this and then inform me if it is good to be published.

No one will see this unless you do it on the article talk page, and mark it as an edit request, follow the instructions at WP:ER. 331dot (talk) 16:44, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Right, will do. Nickcognito64 (talk) 17:47, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at Some Great Reward, you may be blocked from editing. Please include sources when you're making edits. Adding information with "citation needed" tags isn't really helpful, readers can't verify what you've added. If you don't know how to use sources, see the welcome message or ask. Ravensfire (talk) 15:26, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Some Great Reward Tour

[edit]

Hi Nick. I see that you have started drafting an article about the Some Great Reward Tour at User:Nickcognito64/sandbox. I'm not saying that this is definitely doomed but there are some things that I think you should know before you invest too much effort into it. First up, the tour seems to have been known as the "Some Great Reward Tour" not "Some Great Tour". If you look at Some Great Reward Tour you will see that it is a redirect to Some Great Reward#Tour. If you look at the history of that you will see that quite a substantial article existed between 2010 and 2020 when it was turned into a redirect. I don't know the backstory there. I don't hold an opinion on whether an article is valid or on whether there is anything usable in the old article before it got deleted (except to say that it is not obviously irredeemable). The two tours either side of it do have articles so it is possible that it is but the fact that only this one was turned into a redirect means that there might be a problem with this particular tour.

I suggest caution. Please read WP:NTOUR and take a look at WP:CONCERTS. Maybe start a discussion on one of Talk:Some Great Reward, Talk:Depeche Mode or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Concerts before investing too much time into rewriting something that Wikipedia has already removed once before. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Depeche Mode into Some Great Reward. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 13:47, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Nickcognito64! Your additions to Construction Time Again have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 21:00, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for informing me of this. I had no idea and I will ensure that I will make edits more carefully next time with this in mind. No harm intended and I hope that I can enrich these articles without causing any issues. Thanks.@Diannaa Nickcognito64 (talk) 21:45, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your Eels edits lately.
