S Jithesh

Could you please argue for that at Wikipedia_talk:Notice_board_for_India-related_topics/Kerala#S.Jithesh. I don't have any personal agenda against him except that I believe he is not important enough for an encyclopaedia article. If you can convince me (and others) that he is notable, I will gladly agree with the existence of that article.

Let me put the the question of notability in a different way : There are three or so major encyclopaedias in Malayalam, two of them have more than 10 volumes). I can think of many cartoonists who are big enough for their entry there - Toms, Mantri, Sankar, Yesudasan etc, and people like Aravindan or Sukumar who are not predominantly cartoonists.

Do you think either Jitesh or Chiricheppu will ever find a place there ? A yes or no answer, please. Tintin (talk) 05:41, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

1. Though I was too young to read Cheriya lokavum valiya manushyarum when it was published, I have read a few later (like when Tom's Magazine reproduced a few now and then). What is its relevance to S Jitesh's notability ? I suggested above that Aravindan is notable both ways but more as a film director.

2. Did I really delete Kozhikode Abdul Khadar ? If I did, it was a mistake made while deleting the vanity entries.

3. Chiricheppu may be serving a good cause by encouraging cartoonists, but an encyclopaedia does not exist to support upcoming magazines.

Someone (not me) has nominated Chiricheppu for deletion ( Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chiricheppu, though from the available data, I agree with it. Tintin (talk) 06:18, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Btw, what it your answer to my question - yes or no ? Tintin (talk) 06:25, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages. The notices and comments are needed to establish community consensus about the status of an article, and removing them is considered vandalism. If you oppose the deletion of an article, you may comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. Luna Santin 08:43, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello

Hi Nileena! I read the comment on your userpage. Dont worry, we might bark, but ont bite. :) The cartoonist issues were just a question of notability. And quite a few like them come up for discussion every few weeks on wikipedia. I'm from Kerala myself, residing at Kochi. I'm dropping you a few links that could get you accustomed to wikipedia:

Thank you, and Oonashamsakal to you too! :) -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK17:35, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for the kind words. Keep the good work coming!-- thunderboltz(Deepu) 11:25, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Nileena, I am cleaning up the article a little and making a few changes. Titles like Dr. are usually not included in the name of the article. So I am moving it to K. Ayyappa Panicker (and add a redirect from Ayyappa Panicker). You are also not supposed to sign your name in the article. Tintin (talk) 05:09, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Please take a look at the article now. To avoid copyright issues, we should not copy verbatim from sources. The article even now follows Indian Express too closely. Tintin (talk) 05:30, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Nileena, using copyrighted works verbatim can lead to legal issues and hence is absolutely banned in Wikipedia. See WP:Copyright, especially the section WP:Copyright#Using_copyrighted_work_from_others. Any article that infringes copyright can get deleted without notice.

Induchoodan seems to copy-pasted from http://www.warblersandwaders.org/ . Please try to rewrite it ( & trim it - it is too long now) as soon as possible. Tintin (talk) 13:18, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Induchoodan

Thank you.You did a great job by creating that article. But the article still needs a lot more work in formatting .Bharatveer 12:29, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Women Media Persons

Hey, I propose creating a category of Women Media Persons of Kerala. There need to be individual articles on Shahina, Sindhu, Deepa, Vidhu, Sreekala etc. Kuntan 16:26, 18 September 2006 (UTC) Kuntan 16:26, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Hey Nileena, thank you for supporting my recent RfA. It finished with an amazing final tally of 160/4/1. I really appreciate your support and I will do my best to ensure that I don't let anyone down. Cheers, Sarah Ewart (Talk) 05:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Joshy George

I agree with you. It should be nominated as an AFD. But let us wait for a couple of days (to give time to the concerned user.)Clt13 11:02, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

In the current form, it should definitely be deleted. Tintin (talk) 14:25, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

could you please provide a source or two? - CrazyRussian talk/email 06:56, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey Nileena! Good work with the categorisation. It looks good now. --thunderboltz(Deepu) 14:00, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

One problem that just occured to me, is that people might belong to more than one category. What do you suggest we do then?--thunderboltz(Deepu) 14:09, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

We should create a table for that. If so, a column could be provided to list out the 'sub-areas' of the person.
For eg; Joseph Mundassery, is a politician as well as a writer. His main area was politics. So he can be listed there. And in the column agaist him, we can mention his sub areas.
This will be very useful to describe multiple faceted personalities like Chattampi Swamikal or Sree Narayana Guru who are social reformers and great writers. Also we can bring all the names related to film industry under the section Film field and can mention their sub-areas in the column like poet, director, writer, etc.. -- Rajith Mohan (Talk to me...) :-) 01:03, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Bhashaposhini

I found the September Bhashaposhini. Just a mention in an article is not enough to argue that Chiricheppu (or Joshy George for that matter) is notable. Btw, I am still looking for a Chiricheppu. Over the weekend, I checked the bookshops in two bustands and two railway stations in Central Kerala. Hasyakairali seems to be around in most places, but there is no Chiricheppu anywhere in this area. Tintin (talk) 08:55, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Raju Narayanaswamy

Thanks for your reply. You know better than others about Raju Narayana Swamy. Please modify that article very well. I know that it was not acceptable for others. So Please edit as an STD article . An article about Raju Narayana Swamy should need a Std like him. He was District collector at Thrissur when I was studying my Degree at St. Thomas College, Thrissur, at that time his father was a guest lecturer in that college (2000-2001). He tried to make width to all roads in Thrissur city. But result was his transfer to any other place!. jyothish 18:44, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

On Yukthivadi

Thanks for your message. By the way, in what angle did you look at the article on Yukthivadi - as a rationalist or a journalist? MANOJTV 08:04, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks and on notability

Thanks for the barnstar and congrats for the good work that you have done recently in Kerala articles.

I have no hesitation in confessing my ignorance about many subjects related to Kerala but I think we will continue to disagree about notability of Chiricheppu (btw, I hope I was not too rude in the discussion during the days of the AfD). There can be many reasons why a publication is notable - because it sells many copies (Mangalam, Manorama), it is unique or a pioneer in some way (say, Kavanakaumudi), involved in a scoop/controversy/historical event (Swadeshabhimani), contributes to culture and literature (Bhashaposhini, Mathrubhoomi), has been around for many years, is/was run by a famous person (Shankar's weekely, Tom's magazine) etc. The only category that Chiricheppu fits in is in popularity but it not that popular that it deserves and encyclopaedia article.

But as you have suggested, notability is a relative thing and what is notable for one person may not be so for another. Tintin (talk) 02:58, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't have an opinion about TopGear either way. I have seen it in shops but never bought one. I don't think I know Samuel but now that you say it, I think there was something about him in one of the early editions of Bobanum Moliyum books which came out in around 1990. One of the big names still missing is Mantri of Pachuvum Kovalanum. Tintin (talk) 03:41, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you miss. Nileena for your encouragement.

Thank you very much for your support in my RfA. Unfortunately consensus was not reached, and the nomination was not successful. However, I do appreciate your comments, am still in support of the Wikipedia project, and will continue to contribute without interruption. Thanks again! --Elonka 19:48, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm a genuine user of wikipedia.(kerala wikipedian) More than 500 edits. I used to contribute on Malayalam literarure and art. I'm working in a popular malayalam newspaper. I have no sockpuppets. But I have inspired many co-journalists and students to visit and edit wikipedia inorder to improve the section of malayalam literature and art in wikipedia. I think we , journalists can contribute more on literature and art. I here by affirm that I have no sock puppets.I have seen a statement in administers notice board as hereunder.

Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents Checkuser reveals that there is a lot of abusive sockpuppetry going on here. The following are all the same person:

I hope an admin can look into this. Dmcdevit·t 17:50, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

I have no personal computer. I'm using the server of a news paper company where I'm working. Hundreds of journalists are working in the same company are using the same server of Ip address- 59.93.1.1.104 . May be pleased to unblock me and the Ip address.Nileena joseph 05:43, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

You were blocked by a trigger happy administrator. You can imagine who tipped off a member of the arbitration committee to conduct a checkuser on you (a newbie). Where are the details of the checkuser conducted? Who conducted? Who requested? Learn that distributing barn stars liberally is not sufficient. You have to move along with certain users, especially in AFDs. Whatever be the so-called privacy policies of Wikipedia, learn that "the big brother is always watching you". I will also be blocked soon with no reason; just for offending the big brother. Dakshayani 07:10, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

You have not put the unblock request properly. Everyone who looks at your contribs can see you are a genuine user. The admin above used this mistake to deny your request ( knowing well what you intended and also that you are a newbie). You have to replace the word reason with your reason. For example your first explanation can be put like this. Just remove * from the below text and post and look at the preview. You may ask for the details of the checkuser conducted on you. It should be listed in the Wikipedia:Requests for checkuserpage.

So you are unblocked. Note that word IRC . That is where it all happens. That is where the nice polite users, who promised transparancy in all matters, discuss about you. You will never know what it was; but the Big Brother knows everything.Dakshayani 12:02, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Severe Injustice

I have some doubts. This may sound so funny, but in India, it is very common for more than one person use the same computer. How to differentiate that situation and a Sock Puppet. For example, if my husband browses Wikipedia and votes in few Rfa or AFD from this computer, how can I prove that it was another person who used my computer and not me. Another case is browsing centres - Many persons may be using the same computer (with same IP). How to prove that they are both different people. In India its not an odd thing. People are browsing from internet cafes. Can we say that all are sock puppets.

What if Mr.X uses one account in a computer at his home and another account in a computer at his office. How to prove that (with different IP)?

If an IP is from a place where computers are shared (for eg; I'm using the computer of my news paper company . Hundreds of my co-journalists are using the same internet server.)

Another thing I have found many kids in wikipedia who have enough power to prove earth is not round and the sun is non-notable through AfD votes. These Teenage computer professionals know everything about Computer, but nothing about art, poetry or culture. They know about icecrems ,pista, films and cricket. Nileena joseph 09:21, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reasons:

After discussion IRC with checkuser Dmcdevit and discussions with other editors, I have decided to unblock you assuming good faith. Since your IP is dynamic, it is possible that the other accounts are not sockpuppets. But the group-voting in the AFD is definitely meatpuppetry. Thus only your account is unblocked and the other users should create new accounts if they wish to edit. You (& the others) are advised to edit seperately from one another and abstain from group-participation in AFD's or any other consensus building process.
